Chapter 207 A Late Confession
"This is the best dinner I've ever had," Sebastian said, pulling out a chair for her.
He was being so gentle and attentive, almost out of character.
The meal was light, with grilled sea bass—his favorite.
Brooklyn cooked for him, which made him happy.
Brooklyn picked up her fork, smiling slightly. "You drove here, right? No drinking then."
Sebastian nodded. Dario could come anytime, so he didn't need to worry, but he agreed with her about not drinking. "Okay."
They shared the food, the cozy atmosphere of the house making them both relax.
Sebastian chewed his vegetables slowly, imagining her busy in the kitchen.
He thought maybe he could try washing the dishes afterward, making them seem more like a normal couple.
She picked up her glass, taking a sip of water to hide her unease. She had to admit, it might take a lot of courage to turn down Sebastian.
Sebastian's eyes were on her, catching every breath. When she put down the glass, their eyes met.
He smiled gently, "Your cooking is delicious."
He hoped he could eat her food more often.
His gentleness felt like seaweed wrapping around her, pulling her into a soft space.
'Why was he being like this?'
"Thanks," she said, taking another sip of water, her throat still dry.
Sebastian suddenly smiled indulgently, taking over her glass. "Are you going to fill up on water before starting to eat?"
Brooklyn stared at his deep eyes, the tenderness in them so unfamiliar and captivating.
'What is going on today?' she wondered. They used to have nothing to talk about, and now he was being unexpectedly gentle, almost affectionate.
'Must be an illusion, Brooklyn! An illusion!'
Sebastian saw the cute surprise flash across her face and smiled self-deprecatingly. He had always wanted to get along with her, but it never worked out, always interrupted by various reasons.
But tonight, he wanted to avoid any surprises.
"Why are you smiling?" she asked, confused by his unusual behavior.
He didn't answer her question and just said, "Give me your phone."
She didn't understand but handed it over.
Sebastian turned it off. "Tonight, no matter what happens, we won't leave."
He turned off his own phone too, placing their hands together on the table, his under hers.
It felt intimate, like two people intertwined.
Brooklyn's face heated up for no reason.
Sebastian picked up his fork to give her a piece of fish, deboning it. "You like fish. Eat more."
Brooklyn's heart warmed, almost overflowing. "Thanks. I can do it myself."
"Oh, and this is for you." Sebastian handed her a gift recommended by Kerry.
Brooklyn looked up. "What is it?"
Sebastian was completely honest today, showing his true feelings. "A gift for you. See if you like it."
Brooklyn was surprised. "It's not my birthday," she murmured. 'It isn't a holiday either, so why a gift?'
"You don't need a special occasion to give a gift. Open it."
Brooklyn put down her fork, intrigued by the gift. But the necklace looked familiar. 'Isn't this the limited edition Megan had shown off?'
She closed the box. 'Buying two identical necklaces, how thoughtful.'
"Does this mean you want both Megan and me?"
'What?' Sebastian's eyes flashed with brief anger. "You don't like it?"
Brooklyn felt indifferent. 'Whatever.'
Seeing her tonight, Sebastian was more determined. "Let me speak first. Listen to me, then decide if you accept it."
He put down his fork, looking at her firmly. "Brooklyn, I don't want a divorce. Not now, and ever."
She tried to control her heartbeat, her breath tight. The way he said "Brooklyn" made her heart tremble!
Sebastian reached across the table, holding her hand as she stared in shock.
"We've been together for so long, and I've never said those three words."
'No, don't! You can't!'
She shook her head but couldn't speak. Sebastian's setup tonight felt too much like a ceremony, which made her scared!
Sebastian held her hand tightly, afraid she'd run. "I love you. I wasn't sure before, but now I want to tell you, I love you."
