Chapter 190 You Need a Heads-up

The air between them was electric, the tension so thick you could almost hear it crackle.

Sebastian was ice-cold, while Zach radiated a gentle warmth. Brooklyn was stuck in the middle, her smile frozen.

"Sebastian," she called out into the heavy silence. Then, gesturing to Zach, she walked over to Sebastian.

Sebastian shot Zach a frosty look and opened the passenger door. Brooklyn got in, head down. As Sebastian stood up, he glanced at Zach again, and it was like sparks flew between them.

Zach kept a slight smile, showing no guilt. But he noticed Sebastian's attitude towards Brooklyn had shifted. So, Zach knew he had to step up his game.

Sebastian nodded towards Brooklyn, signaling her to be careful, but he stayed tight-lipped. He got in the car, started the engine, and drove off.

Zach watched the luxury car leave, and his brows furrowed. Just then, his phone rang.

Seeing the number, Zach frowned and answered, "Zach here."

"Hey, Zach, busy lately? I'll be in Aucester for a bit. How about dinner sometime?" It was Randy.

"Pretty swamped. Let's rain check when I get home," Zach answered.

"Home? You're in Aucester. If I wait for you to get home, I'll starve. Why'd you go to Aucester and become a doctor?" Randy said.

"Randy, you agreed to this. No need to rehash it," Zach replied.

"Alright, but you're not getting any younger. Time to find a girlfriend, don't you think?" Randy said.

A girlfriend? Zach looked out the car window. "I'm on my way. You'll see soon if things go smoothly."

"Really? Great! Hurry up, find a girlfriend, get married, and have kids. A simple, clean girl will do," Randy was happy to hear that.

The call ended with casual banter, leaving Zach with a headache. His parents wanted a simple, clean girl from a modest background. But this time, he had to go against their wishes.

Sebastian's anger fueled the Rolls-Royce as they sped through the streets. After a few minutes of silence, he broke it with a cold smile, "Care to explain what just happened?"

"What happened? Do you mean taking the elevator with a colleague? Should I report every meal I eat, too?" Brooklyn said.

Sebastian held a strong grudge against Zach, so Brooklyn was looking for a way to keep Zach from their mess.

Sebastian's long fingers gripped the steering wheel, his profile cold and striking under the flickering streetlights.

"Alright, talk," Sebastian said.

Was he really going to keep this up?

The light turned red, and the car jerked to a stop, throwing Brooklyn forward. She rebounded back, hitting the seat.

"There are a lot of little things; it's a long story," Brooklyn said.

"I've got time. Take as long as you need," Sebastian replied, with his fingers drumming on the wheel, the red light's numbers ticking down. His gaze was distant, unreadable.

Since he was willing to listen, she started, "You know, we had breakfast together..."

"Why are you still involved with him?" Sebastian cut her off, his brow furrowing. 'Damn it! Does Brooklyn know what I really care about?'

Biting her lip, Brooklyn replied, "We're not involved. We are as simple as colleagues, as you can see."

Based on what he saw, Sebastian believed it was far from simple!

The red light turned green, but Sebastian didn't move. After two seconds, the car behind them started honking, "Drive! Let's go!"

Sebastian stayed calm, "Tell me the truth."

If she didn't explain, he wouldn't drive; everyone could wait!

Seeing the cars piling up behind them, Brooklyn said, "Sebastian, are you crazy? Drive. It's a green light. You're holding up traffic."

"You messed with my mood to drive. If my mood's off, it could cause an accident."

Frustrated, Brooklyn stomped her foot. As the green light timer ticked down, the car behind them started cursing.

"He asked me out for dinner. I rejected him after your message, and then we took the elevator down together. That's it! Happy now?" She vented, breathless.

Sebastian stayed silent, starting the car. As they passed the intersection, Brooklyn, fuming, her chest heaving, showed a range of emotions. When she was angry, her cheekbones puffed up, making her face round and adorable.

"So, if I hadn't contacted you, you would've gone to dinner with him?" Sebastian said.

Why was there more to this?

"I don't know!" She snapped.

Sebastian's anger flared, "You don't know? That means you probably would have."

"Hey, Sebastian, where are you going? I need to get back to my place!" Brooklyn asked.

Sebastian suddenly turned the wheel, changing direction. He said, "You've been a bit too presumptuous lately. Seems like you need a heads-up."
