Chapter 529 From Now On, You Are My Boss
Sebastian clicked off the safety, finger on the trigger, glaring at Cedric. "Wanna give it a shot?"
Everyone behind him raised their guns, the tension skyrocketing.
James' palms were sweating. Damn, they wouldn't actually kill someone, would they?
Cedric gritted his teeth. He had orchestrated such a big plan!
"Sixty-forty split is fine, but I need half of this shipment."
Sebastian sneered. "Sure, and I'll throw in half the bullets in my gun. You'll love 'em."
Cedric's face turned pale, his rough fingers clenching tightly. "Sebastian... you're pushing it too far!"
Sebastian's finger slowly tightened on the trigger, the bullet ready to fly any second!
"Mr. Morris, to be pushed too far, you need to be a person first. After this bullet, whether Mr. Morris can still be a person in the next life is up for debate."
James stayed silent.
The gun pressed against Cedric's forehead, his life hanging in Sebastian's hands!
"Sebastian, doing this will be a loss for you!" Cedric's eyes darted around, staring straight into Sebastian's eyes as he tried to discreetly reach under the table to press a switch and escape.
Sebastian's peripheral vision caught his hand. He kicked the chair behind Cedric away!
Cedric lost his balance and almost fell backward. Sebastian grabbed his collar and pulled him under control.
The dozens of people around them were on high alert, watching Sebastian's every move!
"Sebastian, put the gun down first. Let's talk this out. Put the gun down."
The gun was still pressed against his forehead. Put it down? Dream on!
Sebastian's eyes bore into him, forcing him to submit with his gaze. "Mr. Morris, you're taking too long to decide. My hand might get tired, and the gun might go off..."
"Fine! I agree! I'll have the shipment sent to the dock immediately." Cedric's voice became rough in his panic.
Sebastian scanned the room, which contained dozens of people and dozens of guns. "Mr. Morris, I forgot to tell you that my handgun uses special bullets, thirty times more powerful than regular ones. I haven't tested their full power yet."
Cedric was horrified. "What else do you want?"
Sebastian's lips moved slightly, a deep, unfathomable smile. "Mr. Morris, my wife's name isn't something just anyone can say. This is the first time, and I don't want to hear it from your mouth again. Otherwise..."
"Fine! I won't mention Mrs. Kingsley's name again."
James was speechless. At a time like this, Sebastian still had the energy to fuss over this. A wife-protecting maniac indeed.
Sebastian continued, "I came here today, not planning to leave alive. Not for money, but for dignity. Mr. Morris, you can keep me from making money, but you can't take away my dignity."
Cedric swallowed hard. "Haha, fine, Mr. Kingsley, I'll give you your dignity."
Sebastian chuckled. "Tell your men to put their guns down."
"Fine, put the guns down. Mr. Kingsley is one of us; treat him with respect."
James was sweating bullets. He thought he was going to die, but Sebastian managed to turn the tables.
Sebastian kept his gun in his hand. "Mr. Morris, thank you for your cooperation. I won't stay for dinner. Could you personally escort me and my friend out?"
Cedric understood his meaning and nodded. "Of course, I can."
"Great, thank you."
Holding Cedric hostage, they walked outside. James opened the backseat door, then moved to the front and got into the driver's seat. Sebastian climbed into the car, his cold eyes colder than the stars in the sky.
"Mr. Morris, you're a smart man. Don't do something this foolish again. My gun isn't always this patient."
With that, he slammed the car door shut!
The black Rolls-Royce sped away from Cedric's sight.
Dozens of Cedric's men ran up behind him, heads hanging low. "We failed. We didn't expect Sebastian to..."
Cedric waved them off, signaling for a cigarette.
Taking a puff from his cigar, Cedric watched the car disappear, his expression turning dark and cold. "Sebastian reminds me of someone from twenty years ago. In my forty-plus years, only two people have dared to point a gun at my head."
White smoke filled the air. Cedric waved his hand. "Are the preparations ready?"
"Don't worry, everything's set. Sebastian won't escape this time."
"Haha! Sebastian... I'm curious, between him and Alaric from back then, who is better?"
James couldn't contain his excitement, laughing as he drove. "Mr. Kingsley, you have guts! You dared to meet Cedric and negotiate with him. Weren't you afraid he'd change his mind and have you shot?"
Sebastian put the gun down beside him. "Cedric is a businessman. He wants money the most. He wouldn't really kill me."
"That's not certain. Killing you would get him money faster, with no one to share it with. Wouldn't he earn more?"
Sebastian rubbed his temples with his long fingers. "As long as he wants the market and needs my channel, he won't act rashly against me. Unless he finds a new partner."
Thinking about it, Sebastian paused. That was indeed possible.
James clicked his tongue in admiration. "Sebastian, now I understand why you're so firmly established in Aucester. You not only have the Kingsley family but also your own backup. No one dares to mess with you."
Sebastian shook his head. "Cedric doesn't belong. His business is shady."
James didn't press further; instead, he looked back at Sebastian with admiration. "Mr. Kingsley, you called me your friend earlier. Do you really consider me your friend?"
He had to admit it, hearing Sebastian say that made him feel good, even a bit proud.
"What? Mr. Rivera, you don't want to?"
"No, no, I do! Very much! So, we're friends now? But my sister did those things, and you still consider me a friend?"
James was doubtful, thinking it unlikely.
Sebastian was known for putting his wife first.
"It's simple. More friends mean fewer enemies. Too many enemies are exhausting. More friends are just annoying."
Sebastian's answer didn't give James much dignity.
Regardless, James accepted it. "Mr. Kingsley, I'll be your friend! After all, we've been through life and death together. We must be friends!"
As they were laughing, a bullet suddenly hit the car!
James's hand slipped on the steering wheel, and the car swerved violently. "What's going on?"
Sebastian's eyes narrowed. "Shit! Cedric set up an ambush. Drive!"
With the order to drive, James floored it, speeding ahead. The empty Averlake countryside stretched for miles with no buildings, just trees and grass.
Suddenly, a dozen black SUVs chased from three sides, each filled with hitmen, guns aimed at the car!
Dozens of bullets were shot at the car, the metal shells sparking against the body.
Sebastian grabbed his gun. "Straight ahead! Open the sunroof!"
James opened the sunroof, and Sebastian's tall figure stood up, aiming through the opening...
A bullet arced through the air, hitting the front tire of a pursuing car.
The tire exploded! The black SUV immediately stalled.
James's mouth dropped. "Damn! Mr. Kingsley, your shooting is incredible!"
Sebastian had no time for him. "Slow down!"
"What? Slow down? Are you kidding? Slowing down is suicide."
"I said, slow down! Stop talking!"
"Okay!"
James didn't dare disobey, easing off the gas, the car slowing sharply!
The car in front slowed too quickly, and the one behind couldn't react in time, crashing into it!
The black SUV's front end smashed into Sebastian's car's rear, the headlights shattering with a loud crash!
"Speed up!"
"Okay!"
James drove while Sebastian issued orders and shot, working seamlessly together.
Twenty minutes later...
The car had crashed and sped over two hundred miles, finally leaving the ambushers far behind.
James, still shaken, clutched his chest, breathing heavily. "Damn, Mr. Kingsley, who did you piss off?"
Sebastian tossed the empty gun aside, loosening his tie. "Cedric must have found a new partner. This person either has extensive connections or follows his orders closely."
James wasn't smart enough to consider this, already scared out of his wits. "Mr. Kingsley, we're life-and-death partners now!"
Sebastian nodded. "That's right."
James took deep breaths. "We were friends before. Are we best friends now?"
Sebastian: "Mr. Rivera, you sure know how to climb the social ladder."
James didn't care, reaching into the backseat to offer his hand. "Sebastian, I didn't know what kind of person you were before. After these days, I know. No matter what business you do or how much you're worth, I respect you for who you are and your real skills! So, starting today, I'll call you boss!"
Sebastian frowned, not shaking his hand.
"Calling me boss? This kind of danger can happen anytime."
James was determined. "What's that? As long as you consider me a friend, I'll follow you through fire and water without hesitation!"
Sebastian's lips curled into a smile, bumping fists with him. "Calling me boss means no turning back. You'd better think about how to explain this to your sister."
"That's my business, not hers. Boss, from now on, I'm with you."
Sebastian chuckled. "James, don't regret it."
James laughed. "The only thing I regret in life is not meeting Brooklyn sooner."
Sebastian's eyes narrowed. "Her name is something you call?"
James laughed. "Sebastian's right. From now on, I'll call her Mrs. Kingsley! Sigh!"
James felt a strange sadness.
Far away at Aucester Hospital, Brooklyn elegantly sneezed.
