Chapter 557 I Promised My Wife

Sebastian had Jake cornered, leaving him no room to retreat. His cold eyes bore into Jake, yet his expression remained unreadable.

Jake's hands clenched tightly at his sides. He raised his eyes to meet Sebastian's gaze, biting his teeth before letting out a cold laugh. "Mr. Kingsley, you sure know how to joke! The hatred between us has nothing to do with anyone else. You killed my parents, and I want to kill you. It's that simple."

Benedict's eyes darted between the two men. "Hold on. Let me say something. Jake, Sebastian is giving you a chance. Just admit your mistake and show some dignity, will you? You planted a bomb in his car, and he didn't send you straight to jail. That's respect. Don't push it."

Jake ignored Benedict, still staring directly at Sebastian. "I take responsibility for my actions. I do have a motive to kill. You can send me to jail if you want, but stop pretending to be the good guy."

Sebastian's long, clean fingers slowly adjusted Jake's collar, straightening it meticulously. "Dr. Harris, I admire your courage to own up to your actions. But it seems you've forgotten that since your parents passed away, your aunt and uncle have treated you like their own child. I doubt you'd want them to suffer more loss in their middle age. If you respect them, you wouldn't want them to be left alone in their old age."

"Sebastian! What are you planning?" Jake suddenly erupted in fury, his face contorted with rage, veins bulging, teeth clenched tightly, looking like a trapped beast making its last desperate struggle.

Sebastian remained calm, releasing Jake's collar and lightly patting it, as if admiring his handiwork. His deep eyes met Jake's angry ones. "Dr. Harris, why the rush? As you said, I'm a ruthless businessman. You should be familiar with my methods."

Jake's mouth twitched, his face becoming even more distorted with anger. His eyes were bloodshot, filled with a murderous rage. "Sebastian, if you touch them, I'll fight you to the death!"

Sebastian let out a superior chuckle, his tall figure swaying in the wind, maintaining his elegance. "Dr. Harris, you're too naive. You've been watching me for years before making a move, knowing this all along. You're not my match."

Jake's fists clenched again, ready to strike Sebastian's other cheek.

Before Jake's fist could land, a large hand intercepted his arm mid-air, gripping it firmly. With a forceful twist, Jake's arm was nearly broken!

Jake cried out in pain, watching helplessly as Sebastian twisted his wrist, the sharp pain spreading through his body, his face turning pale.

Sebastian held his position, speaking with some regret. "Dr. Harris, you're a surgeon. These hands are invaluable. Take care of them."

He released Jake's hand abruptly, causing Jake to stumble back, hitting the car hood before steadying himself.

"Sebastian, I know you're powerful, but don't forget, even a cornered rat will bite!"

Benedict quickly covered Jake's mouth. "Idiot, stop talking! Do you want to die?"

Jake pushed Benedict's hand away, spitting angrily. "Sebastian, our feud isn't over!"

Sebastian casually played with his phone, spinning it around his fingers. "A cornered rat may bite, but it's still a rat. It can't escape the hunter's gun. Jake, if you want your aunt and uncle to suffer, keep protecting the person behind you."

Sebastian used his phone to lift Jake's chin. "On the other hand, if you tell me who it is, I guarantee your safety."

Jake stared at Sebastian, taking deep breaths, his mind in turmoil. Finally, he gritted his teeth. "Why should I trust you?"

Sebastian sneered. "Because I'm Sebastian."

Jake rubbed his sore wrist, remaining silent.

Benedict was anxious. "Jake, are you stupid? Sebastian promised you. What are you afraid of? Look around, who in Aucester dares to mess with him? If he wants to protect you, you'll be safe. Just tell him."

Benedict gave Jake a chance to compromise. Jake hesitated, repeatedly glancing at Sebastian. "My aunt and uncle's safety. I want you to guarantee it."

Sebastian nodded. "Of course."

Jake gritted his teeth again. "I hope after you know..."

"No one will know you leaked the information," Sebastian interrupted.

Jake bit his lip, then looked around. "Let's talk in the car."

Sebastian nodded. "Alright."

Jake handed the Rolls-Royce keys to Benedict. "Mr. Harrington, I need to talk to Sebastian. You drive this car back."

Benedict nodded. "Alright. Jake, Sebastian is trustworthy. Don't worry."

He glanced at Sebastian, showing approval. "Sebastian, take good care of Jake!"

Sebastian said nothing, getting into his car.

Jake got into the passenger seat of the sports car. The engine roared, and the car sped away.

Benedict scratched his chin, chuckling. "Sebastian! Just like your father... It's a shame you were influenced by Brian. Good thing you didn't turn out like him. You'll change with time. Damn Brian, bastard!"

After venting, Benedict looked at the Rolls-Royce, feeling overwhelmed. "Drive it back? Are you kidding? I don't even have a license. How am I supposed to drive?"

He took out his phone, dialing Brooklyn's number with a grin.

Brooklyn stepped out of the ward, smiling at Benedict's call. "Benedict, enjoying the luxury car?"

Benedict looked at the sky and the desolate outskirts, grinning foolishly. "Brooklyn, are you busy? Can you and Dr. Warner come get me? I'm lost. Both of you, please!"

Brooklyn frowned, incredulous. "How are you lost with Jake? There's GPS in the car."

"Long story. I'm having a smoke. Hurry up."

Brooklyn stared at her phone screen, wondering what had happened.

"Speak." Sebastian's hands gripped the steering wheel, his tone emotionless.

Jake thought for a moment, recalling the past, organizing his words as if peeling back layers of pain. "Eight years ago, my parents died. I was lost and confused. I went to MBK for help, but they turned me away."

Sebastian glanced at him, smirking. Predictable.

"Then I met a man named Cedric. He said it was all orders from MBK's president, directing me to you."

Sebastian's lips curved, tapping the steering wheel. "Cedric!"

So it all led back to Cedric. Interesting!

Sebastian didn't remember Cedric's involvement with MBK eight years ago. Or maybe Cedric had ties with MBK all along? The Britonia branch had undergone several major personnel changes and mergers, creating chaos.

Cedric... What was his connection to MBK?

Jake looked at Sebastian, taking a deep breath. Since he started, he might as well finish. "Cedric's influence is vast. His people can appear anytime. Be careful. I think he has a grudge against you. Recently, he gave me the bomb to speed things up. He doesn't want you alive."

So, Cedric and Sebastian had clashed directly?

The timing matched.

Sebastian's smile deepened, becoming more enigmatic. "Of course, he has a grudge. You were Cedric's pawn, used to target me and MBK."

Jake leaned back, laughing bitterly. "Does it matter? Whether it's you or not, MBK's pressure drove my parents to their deaths."

Sebastian frowned. "MBK may bear some responsibility, but it has nothing to do with me. If you want to pursue legal action for your parents' rights, I have no objections."

Jake was stunned. "You support me suing MBK?"

Sebastian almost laughed. "Of course. I'd love to see you try. I'll even provide free legal aid. But be prepared for the consequences."

Jake's anger surged, but he had to admit, Sebastian was right. This arrogant man hadn't truly harmed him. "Why are you helping me? From earlier until now, why? With your style, you should've had the police take me away or killed me."

Sebastian turned the steering wheel, driving along the highway back to Aucester. "Helping you? Dr. Harris, you're mistaken. I'm not helping you."

"Then why? I don't understand. I've seen your methods against enemies. Honestly, they're ruthless. In your world, money solves everything. If money doesn't, there's force. You don't need to listen to me." Jake still found it unbelievable. The Sebastian he knew wasn't like this.

Sebastian's cold face finally showed a faint smile. "I promised someone to handle things differently."

He had promised his wife to try another way, and he would keep that promise.

Jake squinted, uncertain. "You mean, Dr. Mitchell?"

Sebastian's deep eyes softened. "She's my wife."
