Chapter 587 Guessing the Murderer

Sebastian's biggest fear was that Quinn, with his youthful impulsiveness, might do something reckless and ruin everything he had worked for.

Unable to hold back, Sebastian shouted at Quinn, his grip tightening.

Quinn couldn't think that far ahead. When he heard Brian mention calling a board meeting to discuss sending Sebastian away from MBK to the Aqua Vista City branch, he was instantly furious, almost losing his rationality.

He nearly stormed into the room to demand answers.

Now, calling Sebastian for an explanation, he received vague responses, which only fueled his anger. His fists clenched tightly under the pressure of Sebastian's grip.

Quinn was utterly confused. How did things get to this point?

When did it all start?

Thinking back, it seemed like ever since he dropped out of college and returned from Averlake, there had been constant turmoil at home.

Over the years, he had clearly seen Brian's attitude towards Sebastian. Upon closer reflection, Brian's treatment of Sebastian...

He couldn't recall a single instance of fatherly warmth or kindness.

Was it a misunderstanding? A conflict? A dispute over interests?

Quinn couldn't take it anymore. If he didn't get answers soon, he felt he might go crazy from all the questions.

Determined, he pressed on, "What exactly happened? Sebastian. Why is Dad suddenly coming down so hard on you? Dad told me he wants you to prove yourself to the board with your own abilities, to become the chairman legitimately. But why do I feel... I feel like Dad isn't helping you, he's suppressing you!"

Yes, that was exactly how it felt!

Quinn finally understood the source of his intense unease!

Everything Brian was doing now seemed to be aimed at suppressing Sebastian, not some so-called training or development!

In Aqua Vista City, the drizzle continued. Sebastian turned up the collar of his suit, the countless streetlights along the bustling riverbank casting shifting lights on him.

His tall, black-clad figure walked along the riverbank, standing out among the many umbrella-carrying pedestrians. One hand in his pocket, his silhouette was strong and upright.

"Quinn, if there were a conflict between Dad and me, who would you choose?" Sebastian asked.

Since Quinn had asked such a question, Sebastian felt he needed to say something more, fearing Quinn's suspicions would only grow. Quinn still needed experience, but Sebastian didn't have much time left.

Quinn replied hastily, "Of course, I'd choose you! I came back to the Kingsley family when I was eight. I know what kind of person you are. You act with integrity. I trust you!"

Sebastian stood on the wall connecting both sides of the river, gazing at the shimmering water, the surface reflecting countless lights, flickering and uncertain.

"And Dad? After all these years, Quinn, you should know Dad pretty well too."

Quinn thought back over the years, and after careful consideration, he shook his head, "I don't know. Dad treats me well, but he's too enigmatic. I can't figure him out, so I don't know what to say."

Sebastian sighed lightly, "Quinn, listen to me. No matter what decisions Dad makes, don't clash with him. He won't harm you."

Yes, Quinn was his biological son. How could Brian harm him? As long as Quinn stayed obediently by Brian's side, he would undoubtedly enjoy wealth and prosperity, eventually rising to the top of MBK's power. This was the path Brian had arranged for him.

Now, Brian was steadily guiding Quinn towards this position.

"And what about you, Sebastian? Will Dad harm you? Did you offend him somehow? Apologize to him, let him bring you back. Sebastian, I believe Dad will forgive you. And Mom, ask her to talk to Dad."

Sebastian gazed deeply at the turbulent river, the water flowing eastward, power shifting. In this ever-changing world, what remained constant?

"It's not as bad as you think. I've been at MBK for nearly ten years. Do you think one board meeting can push me out? Quinn, you're underestimating me."

"Right, right, Sebastian, you must have a plan. You're my brother! You've never failed at anything since we were kids. Sebastian, I trust you! I'll be waiting for you in Aucester."

"Okay." After replying, Sebastian prepared to hang up.

Quinn's voice hurriedly added, "Sebastian, recently, Dad and Mom seem to have had a fight. I don't know what it's about, but Mom seems really angry. It's probably because of you."

Sebastian frowned deeply, "I understand. You don't need to worry about these things for now. Be cautious of Donny at the company."

"Yes, I'll listen to you."

The call ended, and Sebastian's black suit was already soaked by the drizzle, his shoulders and back nearly drenched.

Ten years of honing a sword, yet he never expected the blade to be aimed at his own father.

What a bitter irony.

At the Police Department in Aucester, Ophelia sat with one leg crossed on a chair, tapping the collected evidence with her fingers, "Joseph, the case hasn't progressed at all. This isn't like us. If we don't solve it soon, the public will be up in arms."

Detective squad leader Joseph Graham tapped the corner of his police hat on the table, "I want to solve this damn case too, but the killer's left us in the dark. Not enough evidence, no clear suspects, and no similar cases to reference. One clean shot, no evidence left behind. Damn it!"

Ophelia rubbed her temples, "From the distance and angle of the infrared scope, we can deduce the shooter fired from the building opposite where the victim was shot. Unfortunately, it rained heavily that day, washing away any footprints."

Joseph pointed to Frank standing next to Ophelia, "How's the criminal profile from the psychological expert? Reliable?"

Frank Wallace, about twenty-three or twenty-four years old, was a rookie like Ophelia but less experienced, currently her assistant.

Frank spread out several sheets of paper, "The profile is done, but there are over three hundred people who fit it. Joseph, three hundred! Investigating each one would take until next year, and the killer probably fled Aucester long ago. Plus, we haven't identified the victim yet. No records in the database. Damn, is this going to be a cold case?"

Ophelia was frustrated, "Apart from the shell casing, there's nothing. This type of bullet is sold in thousands every year. Damn it, don't let it turn into a cold case!"

Joseph said, "Looks like we need a Sherlock Holmes."

Ophelia and Frank both sighed, "Joseph, forget Sherlock Holmes. We're hungry. Can we eat?"

"No case solved, no food!"

"Oh no, I'm getting food."

Ophelia shrugged. It was already ten at night. "Joseph, we'll discuss the case tomorrow. I'm off. I don't even have time for dating. When we solve this case, I'll chop the killer up!"

Frank clicked his tongue. "You're ruthless!"

Ophelia grabbed her police hat and smacked him on the back, "What? You upset? Want me to chop you up too?"

"No, I was wrong! I wonder which poor guy got tangled up with you. Poor thing!"

"Get lost!"

Ophelia got into her car, rubbing her head to stay awake. Her dear Zach, wasn't he a handsome guy?

Zach walked out of the operating room, removing his mask.

After a five-hour surgery, his arm felt a bit sore.

Brooklyn emerged from the operating room across the hall, also removing her mask. They exchanged smiles across the corridor.

Zach glanced at the time. "What do you want for dinner? Let's go together."

"Anything's fine. I'm really hungry. My surgery was minor, mainly guiding some interns. Your patient had insufficient cardiac artery power, right? Five hours, not easy."

Zach smiled, "Yeah, insufficient power. I put in a stent. Let's go, I'll treat you to a late-night snack, and we can talk about the TV show recording."

Brooklyn sighed, "The day after tomorrow... Yeah, I need to learn from you. Share your tips for recording shows."

"Dear Dr. Carter, what are you sharing? I want to hear too."

As they chatted, Ophelia's voice suddenly interrupted. She wore a stylish black jacket, blue jeans, and her hair in a neat ponytail, contrasting sharply with their surgical attire.

Brooklyn saw her approaching and smiled, "Ophelia's here. Looks like I won't be learning from someone tonight."

"Mrs. Kingsley, don't say that. I feel bad. You two look like a couple in those outfits!"

"So, if I take Mr. Carter away, you won't mind?"

Ophelia grabbed Zach's arm, "No way, my own man, I'll take care of him!"

Zach frowned, "When did I..."

Ophelia pulled him closer, "Dare to say you're not?"

"...I guess so..."

Brooklyn watched their playful banter, feeling happy inside, "Zach, you're so gentlemanly, and Ophelia's so passionate. You two make a great pair. Better agree with her! Though I wonder how many female doctors and nurses will be heartbroken."

Ophelia pouted, "They'll be heartbroken? I'm the really heartbroken one. Such a handsome boyfriend, walking around a hospital full of beautiful women every day. Mrs. Kingsley, please keep an eye on him for me."

"Haha, keep an eye on him? Share him with me?"

"Sure! Daytime for you, nighttime for me!"

Brooklyn chose to stay silent.

Zach had no words either.

Suddenly, Zach remembered something, "By the way, when I went to the TV station, I brought back your photos. The ones with you and Sebastian. They're in my office, you can pick them up."

Brooklyn nodded, "Okay."

Ophelia eagerly pulled Zach to change clothes, "Alright, alright, go change. Let's eat, I'm starving!"

"Aren't you working on a case? How come you're back?"

"Don't mention it. Can't find any evidence of the killer. Just a shell casing, nothing else. Frustrating!"

"What kind of bullet?"

"A sniper rifle bullet, foreign-made, model..."

Their voices faded as they walked away, Brooklyn smiling at their disappearing figures.

Seeing Zach find his happiness, she was genuinely happy for him.

Benedict hadn't stepped out yet; hearing Ophelia's last words, he paused. A sniper rifle bullet, Z-07 model?

Could it be that person?

They actually used that person!

Among those from back then, only one person alive could hire him now.

'Jennifer... How foolish! Absolutely foolish!' Benedict thought.

Dear CEO, Please Be Gentle!
