Chapter 544 Brooklyn, I Want You to Be My Mom

Bianca's struggle stopped immediately. She looked at Brandon, her initial surprise turning into indifference, then becoming cold and stern.

She yanked her hand away from Brandon's grip, a cold laugh escaping her lips.

"Brandon, let's not kid around. Let's just pretend you never said that, and I never heard it. Don't bring it up again. I'm not interested."

Brandon tried to grab Bianca's hand again, but she shook him off and put some distance between them. "Why? You don't like me? Or is there someone else?"

Bianca opened a file and began reading. "Brandon, it's rumored you have a harem of beauties around you, all shapes and sizes. You should enjoy the company of young models and starlets."

Brandon was instantly agitated by her tone, but his notorious past was undeniable.

For the first time in his life, Brandon felt a twinge of regret. He had spent years indulging in pleasure, meeting and interacting with all kinds of women, and had never once thought to reflect on his actions.

Men like Sebastian were too boring for him.

But now, he suddenly wanted to treat someone well.

That person was unlike anyone he had ever imagined. She was so unexpected, so special, even giving him headaches. But Brandon had to admit, he had fallen for her.

"Bianca, I'm not joking. Okay, I admit I've done a lot of Playboy things, and you have caught me red-handed yet. But aren't you going to give me a chance to turn over a new leaf? I'm tired of playing around, isn't that enough?"

Bianca signed her name on the document without looking up. "Brandon, remember to close the door on your way out. Thanks."

"Hey! Bianca, you can't be serious. I'm confessing to you, and you're just brushing me off? Are you even a woman?"

Bianca looked up slowly, "I know, but I also have the right to refuse, don't I? So, Brandon, please leave. We have a meeting in half an hour. Be prepared."

Brandon ruffled his hair in frustration. Damn, the one time he genuinely liked a woman, she turned out to be so oblivious. Brandon felt a pang in his heart.

"Fine! You don't believe me? No problem, I'll prove it to you. Just wait."

As Brandon stood up, Peregrine knocked and entered.

The two men crossed paths, and Brandon said, "Peregrine, got plans tonight? If not, join me for a few drinks. My heart needs healing."

Peregrine looked puzzled. "I have to visit my daughter in the hospital tonight. Can't join you."

Brandon shook his head and sighed dramatically. "Oh, the misery! Why is my life so hard?"

With that, he closed the door and left, looking utterly dejected.

Peregrine held several documents, which he laid out and explained to Bianca. "These are the recent achievements from the engineering department. If you have any questions, feel free to ask."

Bianca nodded. "Your explanation is clear. No questions."

"Alright, I'll get back to work then."

As Peregrine turned to leave, Bianca called out, "Wait a moment."

Peregrine turned back with a smile. "Ms. Gomez, anything else?"

Bianca gripped her pen tightly and bit her lip. "About your ex-wife, I'm not sure if I should tell you this."

At the mention of his ex-wife, Peregrine's smile vanished instantly. His back tensed, and his eyes darkened. "What about her?"

Bianca hesitated. "After she married Marc's father, her life hasn't been happy. Marc is no good, and his father is even worse. I don't know why she married the old man, but I think she regrets it now. With Marc's downfall, the Jordan family's power will diminish. If you want to..."

"Ms. Gomez," Peregrine interrupted, struggling to stay calm. His fists clenched, veins bulging on his forehead. "Our relationship is over. I won't go back to her, no matter how she's doing. My daughter and I are fine without her interference."

With that, Peregrine left the office.

Bianca exhaled deeply. How much disappointment and pain must he have felt to say such words?

Peregrine had made up his mind.

Aucester Hospital.

Brooklyn finished reviewing a stack of medical records and checked on a few recently admitted patients.

Returning from the inpatient department, she saw Arabella daydreaming in the break room, holding a cup of coffee.

Brooklyn quietly approached her from behind. "Dr. Warner, slacking off during work hours? Should I report you?"

Startled, Arabella spilled her coffee. She realized it had gone cold.

"Dr. Mitchell, when did you get here?"

Brooklyn handed her a handkerchief from her lab coat. "Here, clean up. What were you daydreaming about? Am I that scary?"

She sat down, rubbing her sore ankles from wearing high heels.

Arabella cleaned up the coffee and sighed again, resting her chin on her hand. "Hey, I wanted to ask you something. Have you ever been confessed to? Well, of course you have. How did it feel? Tell me."

Brooklyn tapped her forehead, smiling mischievously. "Oh? So you got confessed to and are now daydreaming about it."

Arabella blushed, adjusting her glasses. "Well, I like Dr. Carter. I like men like Dr. Carter." She gushed, "Dr. Carter is mature, elegant, and speaks so soothingly. He's the perfect boyfriend. And he's such an excellent doctor, a senior specialist in both internal and external medicine. We're a perfect match."

Brooklyn laughed at her infatuation, waving a hand in front of her face. "Hey, snap out of it. Dr. Carter is great, but how much older is he than you? The qualities you admire come with time and experience. Do you want a polished gem or a rough stone you can shape yourself?"

Arabella blinked, looking at Brooklyn with admiration. "You're amazing! You're my life coach!"

Brooklyn sighed. "If you don't try, how will you know? Life's fun lies in trying new things and taking risks. So, go for it, Dr. Warner. You'll find a guy even better than Dr. Carter!"

Arabella giggled. "Alright, I'll give it a shot!"

What a stark contrast between Quinn and Dr. Carter! Such a huge gap! It was maddening!

Dr. Carter was a god among men!

Quinn was just a spoiled brat!

Arabella stared at the break room ceiling, wondering, 'Why is life so hard?'

Just as they finished discussing, Jake called.

Brooklyn answered, "What's up?"

Jake's voice was filled with uncontrollable joy. "Dr. Mitchell, Sofia woke up! She's awake!"

"What! She's awake? I'm on my way!"

Brooklyn and Arabella rushed to the ICU without hesitation.

Brooklyn's breath was uneven as she reached the room, clutching her chest to ease her dry throat.

She saw the little girl on the bed, awake and talking to Benedict, and a long-lost smile of relief spread across her face.

Benedict sat by the bed, making animal shapes with his fingers. "Sofia, what animal is this?"

Sofia tilted her head, then her eyes widened. "A rabbit!"

"Wow! Sofia, you're amazing to guess that!" Benedict praised her, making Sofia giggle.

"It's easy. Look at the big ears." Sofia's sweet voice was adorable.

"Let's try another one."

Benedict twisted his fingers into a new shape. This time, it was so strange that even Brooklyn couldn't recognize it.

Sofia thought for a moment. "This is a monster!"

Benedict pouted. "How can it be a monster?"

"Because it looks weird!"

Brooklyn and Arabella exchanged a glance and walked in.

"Sofia, do you remember me?"

Brooklyn leaned close to Sofia's warm, soft face, gently stroking her nose with a loving smile.

Sofia's innocent eyes looked at Brooklyn. She thought for a moment, then sniffed the air and smiled. "I remember you! Pretty lady, I remember you."

Brooklyn was surprised.

Sofia had been unconscious the whole time. How could she remember?

"Sofia, no lying. Tell the truth." Brooklyn's fingers brushed through her hair. Her small face was so soft, it melted Brooklyn's heart.

Sofia nodded firmly. "I'm telling the truth. I remember your scent. It's camellia. It must be you."

Benedict chuckled. "Who knew?"

Sofia looked up at Brooklyn, her eyes sparkling. "Pretty lady, I've finally seen you. I remember your voice. It's so nice."

Brooklyn was charmed by her voice. She hugged her gently. "Sofia, you're so good! I'm so happy to see you awake. Your dad will be here soon. Let's surprise him, okay?"

Sofia nodded obediently. "Okay! I'll listen to you."

Brooklyn tapped her nose. "Just call me Brooklyn."

Benedict laughed. "Brooklyn, this child likes you!"

Brooklyn said in her soft voice. "Alright, I will call your dad now."

Sofia noticed the ring on Brooklyn's finger and thought for a moment. "Brooklyn, you're married."

Brooklyn nodded, ruffling her hair. "Yes, I'm married."

Sofia sighed. "I wish you weren't married. Then you could marry my dad and be my mom!"

"Trying to steal Mrs. Kingsley? Bold move!"
