Chapter 324 Zach and Dario Fight
"Dr. Carter!"
"Stop fighting, stop fighting!"
Zach's counterattacks were getting more intense as the shouts echoed from the hilltop. Punches and kicks flew, their fists clashing like thunder!
Brooklyn was in shock! She hid behind the car, peeking at the brawl, and suddenly realized everything had flipped upside down.
In her memory, Zach had always been a gentle and refined person. She was astonished to see him fighting, and fighting so well. This completely overturned her previous impression of him.
She rubbed her eyes and looked again just as Zach landed a flying kick to Dario's gut, making him stumble back a few steps.
The fight was getting way too intense.
At first, Dario could hold his own, but as Zach's punches got faster and stronger, Dario lost his edge completely.
Zach grabbed Dario by the collar and punched him in the face! Blood trickled from the corner of Dario's mouth, and his face swelled up, looking pretty messed up.
"Dr. Carter, you're good at pretending!" Dario sneered, wiping the blood away.
Zach pulled back his fist and said, "Some people get courtesy; others need a bit of force."
Dario was dizzy, seeing stars, swaying before he could stand firm. "So, when you said you didn't know where Mrs. Kingsley was, were you lying too?"
Zach picked up his white coat from the ground. "No, I really don't know. You've got the wrong guy."
With that, Zach started walking down the hill, leaving behind a bunch of pale-faced doctors and a battered Dario.
Dario quickly snapped out of it and chased after him. "Zach, Mr. Kingsley loves Mrs. Kingsley a lot! If anything happens to her, he'll stop at nothing for revenge!"
Zach paused and slowly raised his head. "If he loved her, he should've protected her from the start, not go looking for her after she left heartbroken. Mr. Klein, I don't want to fight anymore, and please, stay out of my life. You should know, my feelings for Ms. Mitchell are serious."
He spoke so clearly and decisively, like he was openly admitting he had feelings for a married woman.
Dario wiped his mouth harshly and went back to the mountaintop. He dialed Sebastian's number, taking a deep, anxious breath. The night wind whipped against his face, making his scars sting. Dario looked up at the sky, silently wondering, 'What has the world come to?'
The call connected, and Sebastian immediately asked, "Where is she?"
Dario bit his lip. "Mr. Kingsley, Zach seems to really not know. Is it possible he has no clue about Mrs. Kingsley's disappearance?"
'Zach unaware?' Sebastian thought, clearly not happy with that answer.
There was silence on the other end of the line, just the sound of Sebastian's steady breathing, a clear sign he was pissed.
After a full minute, Dario cautiously asked, "Mr. Kingsley, should I keep an eye on him?"
"Watch him for one more night," Sebastian replied, frowning, clearly not happy.
Hanging up, Sebastian tapped the edge of the bed with his long fingers.
'If Zach knows where Brooklyn is, and he's this calm, she must be safe. Should I really give her some time and space to chill?' He thought, feeling guilty and frustrated for not being able to protect her right away. But what really got to him was her just vanishing like that.
The night in Malawa was filled with bright stars, exceptionally clear.
While treating his wounds, Dario asked each doctor, and they all said they hadn't seen Brooklyn. After nightfall, Dario drove out of the village and kept watch from a strategic spot all night.
To avoid raising Dario's suspicion, Zach went back to his room to rest and didn't go near Brooklyn's door.
Dario's night of surveillance turned up nothing, and with that, he basically gave up.
The next day, Dario's car left.
It wasn't until the car disappeared over the horizon that Brooklyn stared into the distance, dazed. Dario was heading back to Libertya, a place she could never return to.
"Brooklyn." Zach stood behind her, calling her gently. He was always so gentle, which was in stark contrast to his earlier fight with Dario.
"Does your face still hurt? Is it any better?" Brooklyn asked, concerned.
His face was still bruised, but he had done some emergency treatment himself and seemed to be recovering well.
Zach shook his head, his smile in the morning light particularly comforting. The light slanted, carrying a hint of magic, and fell on Zach's face, making it glow.
He replied, "It doesn't hurt anymore. It's just a small thing."
"A small thing? I didn't expect you to be able to fight." Brooklyn raised an eyebrow, teasing him a bit.
Zach said, "A man should throw a punch when necessary."
He threw punches last night because of her.
Not wanting to dwell on the fighting, he changed the subject, "Today is a rest day. I'll take you somewhere."
Brooklyn didn't expect that Zach would take her to the desert. Malawa boasted a vast, sprawling desert landscape. As far as the eye could see, there was nothing but sand, undulating dunes rising and falling in majestic waves. It was a landscape of raw beauty, untamed and unrestrained.
Riding camels, traversing dunes, rolling in the endless sand, Brooklyn became like a playful child, scooping up sand and tossing it into the wind, watching it scatter beautifully.
"Shout out loud! Although it's not the ocean, the desert is pretty good too." Brooklyn shouted.
Zach laughed heartily, cupping his hands around his mouth and shouting into the empty desert, "Brooklyn! You idiot!"
