Chapter 397 Once you have been through the vast oceans, you will not easily settle for mere streams

Scarlett received a call from George, and her first reaction was, "Are you kidding me?"

George was pleading on the other end, "Scarlett, Zach is very stubborn. Once he decides to give up, he won't easily turn back. At this point, I have no choice but to ask for your help."

Ask her to persuade Zach to come back and perform surgery on a patient?

How should she even start?

Not to mention, she wasn't even sure if the person she briefly met in Averlake was Zach. Even if it was him, how could she start the conversation?

George continued to plead, "Scarlett, this is a matter of life and death. I'm begging you, we really can't get him to come."

"Could Mr. Carter really disregard a human life? If you explain it clearly, he won't ignore it. Since he was once a doctor, he can't suddenly become heartless." Scarlett was confused.

"You don't understand the situation, Scarlett. Because of some things that happened. Just give it a try, okay?"

Unable to resist George's request, Scarlett had to agree.

The phone displayed the number George had sent, prefixed with Zach's name.

Surprisingly, Zach was now in Averlake, but the number was from the Libertya area. Zach must be really extravagant to use international roaming in Averlake.

Scarlett leaned back on the sofa, thought about her opening line, and dialed the number.

Far away in Averlake, Zach was discussing an experiment with his research team when his personal phone rang in his pocket. He had kept his Libertya phone number, thinking several times about not using it anymore, but he remembered it was the only way Brooklyn had kept in touch with him before passing away, so he kept it.

It was his way of holding onto a memory, deep down, he always hoped for a miracle, that Brooklyn might suddenly call him one day.

The screen displayed an unfamiliar Libertya number.

Zach swiped to answer, "Hello."

Scarlett exhaled a breath of relief, thankful that Zach had answered. "Mr. Carter, hello, I am..."

Brooklyn!

Zach suddenly stood up from his chair, knocking it over onto the tiled floor with a loud, dull thud. "Brooklyn! Is that you, Brooklyn!"

His facial muscles instantly tensed with extreme anxiety, his expression and emotions nearly frantic. He gripped the phone tightly, as if he wanted to reach through the screen, through the radio waves, and embrace Brooklyn on the other end!

He had waited over two years, and finally, it had happened!

Heaven had given him a miracle!

The researchers in the conference room all stared wide-eyed in shock, their dozen blue eyes fixed on Zach's outburst, completely overturning their impression of him.

Zach could actually get excited? Wasn't he always expressionless and motionless?

Scarlett silently rubbed her hair, knowing he would react this way. Damn, she should have adjusted her voice earlier. Now, explaining that she wasn't Brooklyn would only hurt Zach.

She awkwardly chuckled a few times, clearly hearing Zach's increasingly heavy breathing on the other end. His heart rate had shot up to 150, Zach was even scarier than Sebastian.

"Mr. Carter, I am Scarlett Taylor. We met on the Lincolnton University campus. Do you remember?" Scarlett closed her eyes and took a deep breath, really afraid Zach might suddenly faint.

Far away in Averlake, Zach's tall frame suddenly slumped, his body dropping after the intense excitement. He steadied himself by leaning on the table with one hand.

Hearing the faint sounds on the other end, Scarlett anxiously asked, "Dr. Carter, are you okay?"

Zach closed his eyes and adjusted his breathing, "I'm fine, Ms. Taylor. What can I do for you?"

Scarlett patted her chest, relieved he was okay. She was really afraid Zach might have a heart attack or something.

She explained the purpose of her call and then waited for his response. To minimize the disappointment, she had already prepared herself for his refusal.

Zach didn't refuse outright, "You said you're in charge of this project?"

"Sort of, but I'm injured now, and the patient's condition is very bad. If we could find a suitable doctor, I wouldn't be bothering you. I hope you understand."

Zach thought for a moment, said something softly to the people in the conference room, and then spoke into the phone again, "I'll get back to you in no more than three hours."

"No, you need to give me an answer now. The patient can't wait. You're a doctor, you should know what time means to them. At this point, I hope Mr. Carter can put aside all personal feelings and think about the patient. Can you do that?" Her push left him with no way out.

Scarlett pressed on, breaking down his last bit of hesitation, "Dr. Carter, the theory you're currently researching is perfect for this project. If possible, I hope we can collaborate further. Mr. Carter, I'll be waiting for you in Libertya."

"I'll be waiting for you in Libertya." With one final push, she hung up the phone.

This sentence broke down Zach's last defense. He said to his assistant, "Casey, book me the earliest flight to Aucester today. I'm heading back."

Aucester Hospital.

"What did you say? Zach is coming back! Really?" Piper grabbed Samantha's arm, nearly crushing it. Samantha winced in pain, "Yes, let go, it hurts."

Piper let go of her arm, her heart filled with wild joy, excitement, and elation. She was completely ecstatic.

Zach was coming back! She had waited for him for over two years, thinking she would never see him again. She never imagined that Zach would actually return!

So, this meant she still had a chance with Zach. Their fate wasn't over yet.

Seeing the joy on her face, Samantha hesitated but had to remind her, "Dr. Rivera, Zach was invited back by Scarlett. Do you know what that means?"

Piper's eyes suddenly sharpened like blades as she stared at Samantha, her pupils contracting. Scarlett was Brooklyn! That haunting Brooklyn!

"Does Zach already know Scarlett is Brooklyn?" Piper grabbed Samantha's arm again, this time with even more force.

Samantha winced in pain, almost in tears, "I'm not sure, but it doesn't seem like it. If he knew Scarlett was Brooklyn, he would have flown back immediately."

Exactly. Given Zach's feelings for Brooklyn, he would have flown back immediately.

Piper slumped into a chair. Se absolutely couldn't let Zach know Scarlett's true identity. They must not recognize each other.

MBK Group, President's Office.

Dario handed a file to Sebastian, respectfully saying, "Mr. Kingsley, this is all the information we could find on Ms. Taylor and the Taylor family."

A thick envelope, enough to thoroughly investigate everyone in the Taylor family.

Sebastian touched the envelope and nodded, "Got it. You can go now."

His head was throbbing slightly. Even without looking at the contents, from what he had learned over the past few days, he had almost given up the idea that Scarlett was Brooklyn.

There were too many differences between them. If Scarlett were really Brooklyn, how could she have learned so many things she had never touched before in just over two years? Including racing, Medical skills and all the life skills...

And the completely changed appearance and handwriting.

He couldn't believe a person could change so completely.

With doubt and unease, he opened the envelope.

Inside were photos of Scarlett from childhood to adulthood, She was flawless, impeccable. Her stunning face had never changed.

The file also contains records of Scarlett's previous hospitalization, which coincided with the time of Brooklyn's incident. However, the location mentioned was the Peak of Avalanche Heights. After the incident, she was taken to Tranquil Haven Hospital in Averlake, where she received treatment for three hundred days.

The information was detailed, even including the medical equipment used.

There were also photos of Scarlett's engagement to Kevin, showing them holding hands on the lawn of Kevin's private estate in Emporcia, surrounded by family members.

Scarlett was completely unrelated to Brooklyn, living in her own world, half a globe away, always living peacefully.

So the idea that Scarlett was Brooklyn was completely dismissed.

At that moment, Sebastian's phone rang. It was Brandon.

Sebastian rubbed his forehead, feeling a headache, "What's up?"

"Shouldn't I be asking you that? You sound weak. What's wrong? Oh, did you see Scarlett's file? I teamed up with some senior hackers here, along with Dario, to thoroughly investigate Scarlett. Are you satisfied?"

Sebastian was not satisfied!

"No, I should ask you, do you regret it? Now that you know Scarlett isn't Brooklyn, it would have been better not to know." Brandon added.

Sebastian was in a foul mood, "If you can't speak plainly, I'm hanging up."

"Wait, I'm serious. Mr. Kingsley, can't you live a bit more straightforwardly? You missed Brooklyn before. Now, are you planning to miss Scarlett too? If you really like Scarlett, don't care who she is or who she's going to marry. Just pursue her! Use your true feelings to win her over! OK?"

Brandon couldn't stand it anymore. His good friend Sebastian was tormented by love, almost dying because of it. After finally surviving, he met Scarlett, but he only loved the deceased Brooklyn stubbornly. This made things very complicated.

Sebastian leaned back heavily in his chair, "Do you know what it means to say, 'Once you have been through the vast oceans, you will not easily settle for mere streams'?"

Brandon scoffed, not understanding or agreeing, "I only know that if you miss Scarlett, you'll never have another chance! Also, here's some fresh news for you. A friend of mine at the Lincolnton University research center said Zach got a call today and immediately flew back to Libertya. I don't know who called, it's said Zach is heading to Aucester Hospital."

Sebastian's hand left his forehead, his long fingers pressing against the edge of the desk. A call that could bring Zach back to the hospital, coming from Aucester Hospital—who else could it be?

It must be Scarlett.
