Chapter 249 Can't Reach Brooklyn

Sebastian's brows furrowed in frustration as he thought, 'Why couldn't I get through? What is she doing?'

"Any news in the past couple of days?" Sebastian asked.

Dario hesitated for a second before deciding to be honest. "Yes, Susie having an abortion, the scandal caused Mitchell Group to lose funding and almost go bankrupt. But a few hours ago, Mitchell Group's stock was suddenly bought in large quantities, and the chairman of Mitchell Group has changed."

"Oh?"

Sebastian's brows raised slightly, and he let out a barely noticeable smirk. "So, Seraphina's era has come to an end."

"Yes, Boss."

Dario fell silent, choosing not to mention Brooklyn's situation.

As Sebastian approached the car, he suddenly asked, "What about her? How is she now?"

He thought, 'Mitchell Group is her most important asset, and with the change in ownership, she would certainly be affected.'

Dario hesitated, "Ms. Mitchell hasn't been in the news recently. Please, Boss, get in the car."

Settling into the car, Sebastian instructed Dario to head straight to the construction site. But as Dario was about to pull away, Sebastian's fingers drummed impatiently on the seat. "No, turn around. Head to the airport!"

"Boss, don't you need to check on the site? The project needs you now."

The project might need him, but Brooklyn, facing a company takeover, needed her husband even more.

"Let them handle it. Book the earliest flight back home. I need to return immediately."

He thought, 'She has my bank card in her possession; she could easily save the Mitchell Group or even start a new one if she wanted to. Why on earth would she allow others to take advantage of the situation?

'She refuses to use my money. Why?'

Dario, reluctant but obedient, responded, "Understood!"

Sebastian was known for his cold, objective, and wise demeanor, but when it came to Brooklyn, he became impulsive, subjective, and deeply entangled in his emotions.

In Aucester, Brooklyn sat on the living room sofa, the soup in front of her untouched as her spoon lay on the floor.

"The new chairman of Mitchell Group didn't attend the first board meeting. Instead, his assistant will manage the company for the time being.

"Seraphina's shares have plummeted from 23% to just 10%, and she's been stripped of her financial authority within Mitchell Group. Seraphina lost control of her emotions on the spot.

"It is reported that the new chairman of Mitchell Group's first project after taking office is to enter the financial market, striving to reverse the company's losses in the shortest time possible. Industry insiders are waiting to see the results."

Kelly shut off the TV!

"I told you to eat properly, why are you watching TV? No more TV for you. You have to finish the soup Dr. Carter made for you with such effort."

Kelly picked up the spoon and replaced it with a new one for her.

Brooklyn shrugged, "I'm really fine. Maybe this is even a good thing for Mitchell Group."

No matter how good it might be, it was never easy to watch her own things being taken away.

"Don't be tough. If you want to cry, finish the soup and have a good cry."

Brooklyn took a spoonful of chicken soup, "I won't cry. Crying won't change anything. It's so late, why don't you stay here tonight?"

"Duh, it's so late, you're not going to kick me out, are you?"

As Brooklyn sipped her soup, she said, "Can I borrow your phone for a moment?"

Kelly guarded her phone warily, "What for?"

"I'm not going to do anything crazy. Just let me use it."

Kelly guessed she wanted to call Sebastian, but there was no stopping Brooklyn when she was determined.

"Fine, fine. Here you go."

Brooklyn dialed Sebastian's number, but it was still unreachable.

She thought, 'Why is it still unreachable? Is he still dealing with project issues? Is he okay?'

Kelly rubbed her hair. "Brooklyn, don't think about anything else. If Sebastian really cares about you, he'll find a way to contact you whether he's in Averlake or anywhere else. Being busy is just an excuse."

"He's not like that. He must be held up by something," Brooklyn blurted out the explanation, surprised at her own eagerness to clarify for him.

She regretted it instantly. "I mean, he really has something going on."

"Whatever. It's none of your business now. You just go to bed and be a good girl!"

Meanwhile, Sebastian, high up in the air, pulled out a newspaper and saw the headlines. His anger was almost enough to ignite the plane!
