Chapter 511 I Want You

Zach took off his apron and glanced at the last dinner he had prepared for Ophelia. He felt a sense of freedom, like a prisoner finally being released. Taking a deep breath, he carried the dishes to the dining room table one by one.

The white tablecloth was spread out, and a large bouquet of fresh pink carnations with a few red roses sticking out at an angle was placed in the crystal vase in the center.

A Baroque-style chandelier hung above the table, its bright light illuminating the four dishes and one soup, making the already colorful food look even more enticing. The aroma was mouthwatering, but the presentation alone was enough to tempt anyone.

"Ophelia, dinner's ready."

Zach pulled out a chair with the elegance of a high-end restaurant waiter, though tonight he had prepared Libertyan cuisine, which involved relatively complex procedures.

Upon hearing that dinner was ready, Ophelia sprang up from the couch, quickly turned off the TV, and swallowed the remaining chips in her mouth. She swiftly moved to the dining room, the rich aroma of the food making her almost drool.

"Wow! Your cooking skills have improved so much. Today's dishes smell even better than last time," Ophelia commented, scrutinizing the food. "Just the smell alone is like that of a professional chef. The vibrant colors and strong aroma show your excellent cooking skills. These dishes are great. Wait a minute, Zach, did you make the food too rich tonight?"

Zach nodded, maintaining his elegant demeanor. "Tonight is the last meal I'll be cooking for you, so I used all my best skills. I hope you enjoy these four dishes."

Damn!

It was all heavy, rich food. How was she supposed to enjoy this? She might as well drown in the grease. Ophelia lifted the lid of a pot, and an even stronger aroma wafted out. She leaned in to look. "Oh my God! Zach, you did this on purpose. You made such a rich pork rib soup at night!"

Zach remained calm and explained, "Ophelia, since this is the last dinner, I wanted to leave a lasting impression. Remember this taste, so you'll avoid it in the future."

Ophelia put her hands on her hips, scrutinizing Zach from head to toe before saying, "Ha! Zach, I didn't realize you were so cunning. Are you trying to make such a terrible meal that I won't ask you to cook again?"

That was indeed Zach's intention, but he still smiled warmly and kindly. "Ophelia, you have plenty of experts around you. I'm just an amateur, so there's no need to linger too long, right?"

"Bullshit!" Ophelia didn't hold back, her rough language clashing with Zach's clean and refined demeanor.

"Zach, I've had a change of heart. I've thought it over. Since I'll definitely get married someday and don't know what kind of man I'll meet, I've decided it's you. We're now in a relationship, and I want to be your official girlfriend."

Zach, standing across the table, was taken aback by her words, his eyes filled with bewilderment. "Ophelia, I've told you, I don't have any plans for a relationship right now, and I don't think we're suitable for each other."

"That's nonsense!" Ophelia swore again. "I've never met a man who doesn't like me. If you don't like me, it means you have a problem understanding things. It's your fault, not mine. Zach, I'm talented and skilled, I have a great figure and looks, and I come from a respectable family, just like you. I'm a police officer, which is way better than some office lady. Plus, I don't mind that you're just a small-time doctor. Considering everything, you won't find a better woman than me. Most importantly, we complement each other in every way, which makes us the perfect couple!"

Ophelia's long-winded speech left Zach feeling overwhelmed, rubbing his forehead in frustration. "Ophelia, everything you said is true, but there's no chemistry between us."

Ophelia quickly darted in front of him, moving so fast he couldn't see her clearly. Before he knew it, she had wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her lips against his!

When she heard his heartbeat quicken, a smile formed on her lips.

Zach was startled by her sudden action and almost pushed her away, but as her movements became gentle, his hand, ready to strike, hesitated.

He let her have her way.

After a long moment, Ophelia released his collar and looked up at Zach's stunned expression, her smile growing wider.

"Zach, is this the feeling you were looking for?" Ophelia asked nonchalantly, as if she hadn't just stolen Zach's first kiss!

Zach had never kissed anyone before, and it was a passive, forced, and aggressive kiss!

Zach's mental state was more shaken than the living room of this house.

"Ophelia, what are you doing?" Zach's forehead throbbed with anger, unable to tell if his racing heart was due to feelings for her or sheer frustration.

In any case, Zach was furious.

Ophelia shrugged innocently. "Zach, you can't deny it. Your heart was racing just now. As a doctor, you know what that kind of heartbeat means, right?"

"Ophelia, you're a woman! A woman!" Zach, who never argued or insulted anyone, especially women, was at a loss for words in the face of Ophelia's excessive behavior.

"Hahaha!" Ophelia burst into laughter. "Zach, you're so adorable. You were even cuter when you were angry. I like you!"

Her last words were loud and firm, not a joke at all. She grabbed Zach's collar and pressed her lips against his again. "Zach, I like you. You're my target now."

Zach sighed, "Ophelia, you're a police officer, not a bandit."

"So what if I'm a police officer? When it comes to true love, everyone's a rogue."

Ophelia pushed Zach into a chair. "Tonight is your last meal as a chef, but starting tomorrow, you'll be cooking as my boyfriend. According to my plan, in a few months, you'll be cooking as my dear husband. Hey, Zach, being married to a police officer makes you part of the police family. Don't you feel like the main character?"

Zach's warm gaze turned melancholic. "Ophelia, there's no chance for us."

Ophelia stuffed a large piece of sweet and sour pork into her mouth. "Why not? We're a perfect match! I love strong flavors! I'm hooked on this taste and want to enjoy it for a lifetime."

Zach suddenly lost his appetite, feeling like he was being forced into a marriage by a mountain bandit.

Half a month later, Brooklyn had fully recovered, except for occasional soreness in her right hand when tired. Everything else was back to normal.

The first thing she did after recovering was transfer Peregrine's daughter, Sofia Holloway, from abroad to Aucester Hospital. Sebastian had already arranged the procedures through Dario, so the transfer only took a day.

On Sofia's first day at Aucester Hospital, Brooklyn conducted a thorough examination. The girl's condition was worse than she had imagined.

Arabella looked at Brooklyn's serious expression and asked, "Dr. Mitchell, Sofia's condition is severe. A simple surgery won't cure her. She needs a heart transplant."

Brooklyn's slender fingers gripped the mouse as she quickly reviewed similar cases from recent years. The search results left her feeling cold, like a bucket of ice water had been poured over her. In the past five years, all patients with this condition, regardless of age or gender, had died.

Brooklyn set the mouse down and leaned back in her chair. "A heart transplant is the last resort. Right now, we need to strengthen her own heart. Her heart's beating is too weak, and her left ventricle is severely diseased. A pacemaker won't help."

Brooklyn pressed her fingers to her forehead and continued, "There's another issue. She's RH negative, which makes finding a matching heart extremely difficult. Given her rare blood type, do you think we can find a donor?"

Arabella slumped in her chair, her voice trembling. "So, there's no hope for her?"

Brooklyn nodded, then shook her head. "It's uncertain. But I've reviewed Peregrine's medical report. He's a regular B blood type, which doesn't match. Now I need information on the child's mother."

"But if we take the heart out, the person dies. Can the child's mother give up her life for her daughter? Besides, we can't take a heart from a living person."

In her many years of practice, Brooklyn had never encountered a patient so difficult to treat, and this case had far-reaching implications. If the little girl couldn't be cured, Brooklyn didn't know how she would explain it to Peregrine.

As the two sat in silence, there was a knock on the door. Brooklyn called out, "Come in."

To her surprise, it was Bianca who entered. Brooklyn hadn't expected her.

"What's wrong?" Brooklyn asked, seeing Bianca's panicked expression.

Bianca glanced at Arabella, saying nothing.

Brooklyn said, "Dr. Warner, please go ahead. We'll talk later."

Arabella, sensing the urgency, quickly excused herself and closed the door behind her. She had caught a glimpse of Bianca and felt a strange familiarity. Where had she seen her before?

With the door closed, Bianca didn't bother to sit down. She lowered her voice. "Brooklyn, there's trouble in Aqua Vista City."

Brooklyn's eyes turned cold, and she clenched her hand. "Has Marc contacted you again? What's going on?"

Bianca gritted her teeth. "What else could it be? But I won't let him touch me again." Bianca's teeth were clenched tightly.

"You must sever all ties with Marc and live your own life."

Bianca nodded and said, "Marc is gathering forces in Aqua Vista City, targeting you."

Brooklyn let out a cold laugh. "Me? Marc is targeting me?"

Bianca's eyes sparkled. "Yes, you. Marc and your sister want to take you down."

Brooklyn twirled her pen and clicked it twice. "What's their plan?"
