Chapter 78 Being Slandered
Below the headline, a lengthy fabrication was made up, an exaggerated story that looked so real at first glance. The gist was that Brooklyn was promiscuous, shameless, and morally corrupt, often engaging in inappropriate relationships with doctors, patients and even their family members at the hospital, she was truly a vulgar and despicable person. Brooklyn was arrogant, thinking highly of herself due to her skills, openly challenging the authority of the leaders, and committing unforgivable acts.
"This kind of doctor is a disgrace to the hospital, an insult to the profession of doctors!" This was the final conclusion.
Veins popped on Brooklyn's forehead, and the veins on the back of her hand were clearly visible and raised high!
Sienna stood beside her, intimidated by the powerful frost emanating from her, struggling to speak.
Felix approached and whispered, "Dr. Mitchell, rumors stop at the wise, don't take it to heart. You were on night duty last night, go rest now."
Go back? How could she go back at this moment? Sienna and Ellie carefully distinguished Zach's profile, and they had no interaction with Zach, so they couldn't tell if it was him.
Brooklyn suddenly stood up and walked out quickly. Sienna's first reaction was, "Is she going to kill someone?"
"Dr. Mitchell! Where are you going? Don't act impulsively!"
"I'm going to the monitoring room! I want to investigate who is stabbing me in the back." Brooklyn replied.
Ellie held her back, "It's useless, with your status, you don't have the authority to access the surveillance footage."
Suddenly, she thought that someone would have that access.
On Zach's computer screen, the same page was displayed. What happened last night caused a commotion this morning, and the other party was well-prepared. However, Zach frowned; the person taking the photos only captured Brooklyn's face clearly, skillfully avoiding him; it was a smear campaign against Brooklyn.
Zach thought, 'Who was scheming behind the scenes? Who did Brooklyn offend?'
He put down the mouse and stood up.
"I've said it before, don't be fooled by her usual appearance of being aloof, her heart is actually dirty!"
The nurses crowded around the computer, discussing and cursing, all of which fell into Brooklyn's ears as she walked out of the duty room, preparing to take the elevator upstairs. As she passed the cardiac nurse station, her footsteps stopped.
"Flirting with a man in the hospital's office, so shameless, I used to admire her for being young and capable."
"Maybe this is just the tip of the iceberg. Did you not see what the whistleblower said? What she did before was even more outrageous and disgusting."
Brooklyn's eyes, filled with bloodshot veins, carried a cold smile. She rested one hand on the partition, slightly tilting her mouth. Feeling absurd and ridiculous, she remained calm.
"Someone is still exposing her, saying she verbally abused her stepmother, showing no respect at all."
"Oh my god! Someone even exposed that Brooklyn is a married woman, deliberately hiding her marital status just to seduce men."
"This news is even more shocking; it turns out she successfully resolved a medical dispute because she spent a night with a certain official! Is it true?"
"Stop, she's here." Someone reminded in a low voice, and the others fell silent.
"Why stop talking? The person you're gossiping about is me. Don't you want me to hear it?" She showed no embarrassment on her face, making the gossiping nurses blush.
"Dr. Mitchell."
"Do you think I'm a shameless woman?" she said somewhat self-deprecatingly.
The nurses looked at each other, no one spoke.
"Brooklyn, you really have a deceitful face, even I didn't see through it. Underneath your white coat, you hide such a heart." Piper's contemptuous sarcasm came, followed by the crisp sound of her high heels on the floor. She held a medical record in her hand, looking as if she had just passed by.
Brooklyn clenched her fists, "Ms. Rivera, be careful not to slip with your words!"
Piper's red lips moved, "It's already this time, and you still can't help but curse? Brooklyn, I look forward to your next performance in the hospital. Oh, by the way, if you're afraid of being fired, you can come to me. I might help you plead for mercy."
With that remark, she cast a disdainful glance and walked away with long legs wrapped in jeans.
The nurses chuckled and lowered their heads.
Brooklyn's fair face had turned pale with anger. She reached the elevator and frantically pressed the up arrow, feeling agitated, and the elevator door opened. Before Brooklyn could step forward, a strong hand reached out from inside, pulling her in with force.
She didn't have time to see who was inside. She just felt her vision suddenly darken; a refreshing scent filled her nostrils, a familiar smell that broke the silence and burst open.
"Ah!" Brooklyn shouted, her knee wound was wiped, a sharp pain hit her, losing her balance, her feet slipped, and her body fell backward!
Unexpectedly, she fell into a sturdy and warm embrace.
