Chapter 316 Deportation
Brooklyn thought to herself, 'The Kingsley family, they're top-tier. Me? I'm just a nobody. And to make things worse, I've got AIDS. How am I worthy of associating with the Kingsley family?'
She never imagined that she would be permanently expelled from Libertya, and as she sat dazed in the interrogation room, she felt her world collapse.
Lowering her head and closing her eyes, Brooklyn, as fragile as a broken bird, whispered, "Before I go, can I see Sebastian one last time?"
This was her final plea. She didn't dare hope for anything else, just that Brian would let her see Sebastian one more time.
But Brian shot her down, no room for hope, "No need, Brooklyn. Sebastian's life can't be ruined by someone like you."
When Brian made a decision, it was set in stone. The document said she'd be gone the day after tomorrow. She'd be forced to leave and never come back.
"Please, let me see him one last time. I'm leaving anyway, Mr. Kingsley. What are you still worried about? I won't be Sebastian's weakness anymore. What are you afraid of?" Brooklyn couldn't stop the tears, her shoulders shaking with sobs. Her frail body was on the verge of breaking under the pressure.
Brian snorted, his breath filled with disgust. "Don't even think about it. You'll never see Sebastian again."
To Brian, the lower classes were just insects, forever crawling in society's filth, never to enter the elite's world. To him, Brooklyn was one of those insects, and he wanted to crush her, shattering her hopes.
Brooklyn's heart was breaking. She could leave, she could be banished forever. She knew she had no choice. But the thought of never seeing Sebastian again was a living hell. It was a pain that tore through her soul.
Propping herself up on the table, Brooklyn closed her eyes and pleaded, "What will it take for you to let me see him one last time? I just want to see him one last time."
Brian looked at her with disgust, his sharp eyebrows furrowing. His eyes showed no mercy. "What does an insect like you want? What can you do?"
Brooklyn gritted her teeth, closed her eyes, and suddenly knelt before Brian!
Her frail body hit the ground with a dull thud, her knees striking the floor. She hunched over slightly, her body seemingly nailed in place.
Lowering her head, tears falling to the ground, she shattered her dignity and pleaded, "I'm leaving Libertya the day after tomorrow. This is my last request, Mr. Kingsley. I'm a dying person, please..."
"Enough." Brian's low, decisive words revealed his ruthless nature. "The filth in your bones can never be changed!"
Brooklyn realized the situation; even if she died in front of Brian, she wouldn't receive a shred of his pity, so she decided not to make another foolish mistake.
Propping herself up, Brooklyn sneered, "As long as I'm alive, what happened today will eventually come out, Mr. Kingsley. This is the internet age. Whether I'm in Libertya or not, I can expose how you threatened me. I have nothing to lose, but can you afford to gamble?"
Brooklyn stood tall and straight. If she had to go down, she'd go down standing.
The humiliation just now was her own foolishness! She had misjudged Brian's character!
Brian laughed coldly, "Tomorrow, I'll send someone over. Remember, you only have one chance. If you say one wrong word in front of him, the consequences you face will be far worse than deportation."
Brooklyn nodded, not expecting Brian to agree. "Don't worry, I know my limits."
After Brian left, Brooklyn leaned weakly against the table.
The second visitor was Quinn, who reported Sebastian's recovery in detail and added, "Brooklyn, once you're exonerated, you have to stand up for me. I've been so frustrated these past two days!"
Brooklyn readily agreed, "Okay, I'll definitely stand up for you."
But the bitterness and sadness in her heart were invisible to Quinn.
In the afternoon, Zach came.
"I have good news for you," Zach said.
"What news?" Brooklyn, whose heart was almost dried up, wasn't very hopeful but was willing to listen.
"Sebastian's blood test results are out. He is not infected. He's healthy, so you can rest easy."
It was indeed good news! But Brooklyn couldn't muster any excitement.
After a moment of silence, she briefly mentioned her departure, "This time, I'm leaving alone. You don't have to come with me. I don't even know where I'll go."
Upon hearing the news, Zach's first reaction was anger! "I said I would stay with you, no matter where. I will keep my promise. I'm willing, so don't feel guilty."
"Tomorrow, I'll go to the hospital and I'll leave the day after tomorrow." After Brian's blow, Brooklyn's heart had become as calm as still water.
"To see Sebastian?" Zach asked.
Brooklyn nodded honestly and smiled. "What should I have for the last supper? I actually wanted to cook a meal for him myself, but unfortunately, he can't eat it."
The more naturally and casually she smiled, the more heartbroken Zach felt.
"Then bring what he likes. It doesn't matter what you eat, what matters is that you're together." Zach advised.
"Who would have thought the only one left by my side is you." Brooklyn sighed.
"My pleasure." He smiled gracefully, like a gentleman, inadvertently stirring a pool of tenderness in her heart.
For some reason, that smile made her feel a slight tremor.
That night, Brooklyn stayed up all night, replaying her entire life with Sebastian in her mind for the last day.
Brian, true to his word, sent someone to pick her up the next afternoon and gave Brooklyn time to change into clean clothes.
The scars on her face were still visible despite the concealer, a two-inch long scratch crossing her face, scabbed over and looking even worse than when it was fresh.
