Chapter 139 Did Sebastian Ever Truly Love Her

Megan stood in the upper hand, looking increasingly smug. She wore a tight-fitting dress. Even at home, she dressed as if she were on a runway. Her makeup remained flawless from the moment she woke up until she went to bed, and she was always ready to be photographed by reporters or admired by men.

Megan circled the carpet and sat on the sofa, crossing her slender legs. "Of course, I know. Sebastian told me on the first day he left so I wouldn't worry about him. He told me to take good care of myself at home. He even told me over the phone today to make myself feel at home. Sebastian is so considerate, even though he's so busy. I'm really afraid he'll spoil me."

When Sebastian left, he did not tell anyone. It was through her persistent calls that Sebastian, tired of dealing with her, finally answered. As for today, it took several calls from Megan before Sebastian picked up.

Recently, Megan realized that Sebastian was paying less and less attention to her. She had to remind him about the child to get a bit more attention from him. However, in that attention, there was no tenderness.

She shattered Brooklyn's inner barrier. In the end, she weighed too lightly in Sebastian's heart; he would never see her as his wife.

Brooklyn never had the care he showed Megan. He was always domineering and harsh with her, never gentle.

Brooklyn was in pain and deeply saddened. Tears almost welled up again, but she held them back. "That's good," she said.

After saying that, Brooklyn headed up the stairs. As she ascended the spiral staircase, she wondered if there had ever been love between her and Sebastian. Even for a day, a minute, a glance, had Sebastian ever truly loved her?

"Brooklyn, your bedroom is on the first floor! Why are you going up? Are you planning to jump? Do you think you can stay here forever if you're crippled?" Megan's voice was full of aggression.

Brooklyn, lost in thought, had indeed climbed the stairs. Without turning her head, she replied, "I'm going to the study. Don't worry. As long as your things are in that bedroom, I won't step foot in it."

Megan looked up disdainfully from her spot on the sofa. "You'll never have a chance to go in! Hmph, the study? What are you acting for? Oh, I almost forgot that you failed to get the professor position, right? Are you going to study? How useless. How can you be a professor with that attitude of yours? Look at yourself!"

Brooklyn pressed her fingers against the handrail. "Megan, have you said enough? If you have, then shut up! I don't want to argue with you or fight with you. Focus on your baby in silence, and we'll live in peace."

That night, Brooklyn tossed and turned, unable to sleep. She got up, opened the balcony window, and sat on the window seat. The summer night breeze brushed against her face, stirring the thin curtains and her silk nightgown. Her beauty went unnoticed.

On such a night, she missed Sebastian very, very deeply. She longed for his domineering, solid, and cold embrace. However, she also knew that sooner or later, they would be separated.

Brooklyn's phone still had no calls or messages from him.

She also had no excuse to call him. To call him would be to disturb him, right?

The pretense of strength she built during the day completely collapsed in the quiet of the night. Brooklyn knew herself well. She was merely someone who appeared strong on the outside but was fragile inside.

To force herself to sleep, she turned off her phone, drew the heavy blackout velvet curtains, set the air conditioning to blow harder, and buried herself under the covers before finally falling into a deep sleep.

What she did not know was that far away in City A, Sebastian, tossing and turning, had tried to call her. However, her phone was off.

Sebastian turned away from the balcony in the top suite of the Sheliton Hotel.

He found that after leaving Brooklyn, he could not sleep without the aid of alcohol.

However, Brooklyn, without him, must be sleeping soundly every night, right?

Sebastian picked up his phone again and dialed the number, only to hear the mechanical female voice say, "Sorry, the number you have dialed is unavailable."

At that moment, Megan's call came through.

Sebastian looked impatiently at the flashing name, furrowed his brows, and turned the phone over, ignoring it.

The call went unanswered, and she called again and again. Finally, Sebastian was so irritated that he answered it. "Brooklyn Mitchell, what do you want?"

Lying in bed, Megan was stunned.

Sebastian froze as well. Had he just blurted out Brooklyn's name?

Damn it! What was he thinking?

"Sebastian, is Brooklyn annoying you again? She really doesn't know her place."

Sebastian's response lacked courtesy. "Megan, if I hear you say one more word against her, I'll kick you out."
