Chapter 163: He's Willing to Give his Life for You
Zach smiled shyly, blushing like a big boy. "Thank you."
Looking down at Brooklyn, Zach grew more complex emotions. As Kelly had mentioned, Brooklyn's life was likely filled with more tragedies than just her marriage to Sebastian.
But it didn't matter. Zach couldn't change Brooklyn's tragic past, so he resolved to give her a beautiful future with all his might.
"Ms. Wilson, why don't you go wash up first? I'll stay here with her," Zach said.
Nervous and excited, Kelly repeated, "Okay, I'll go."
Walking into the bathroom, Kelly caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror! She had just entrusted her dear friend to others with this dreadful face.
How embrassed!
Zach sat in a chair by the window, picking up the towel Kelly had left behind and gently wiping Brooklyn's forehead. "Don't worry. I won't give up on you. Whether you reject me or avoid me, I've made up my mind about you and won't give up."
As the sky brightened, Zach hadn't slept all night. He stayed by Brooklyn's side, with only her in his heart and mind.
Kelly eventually couldn't resist and fell asleep on the couch. Zach glanced at her sleeping figure and smiled helplessly.
Perhaps Brooklyn was also fortunate to have such a good friend.
After being unconscious for most of the night, Brooklyn finally stirred awake. After opening her eyes, the first thing Brooklyn saw was Zach's anxious and joyful face, bringing her an entire summer's worth of sunshine.
"You're awake," Zach said surprisedly.
His gentle voice made it seem like none of the events of the previous night had occurred.
"Dr. Carter? Why are you here? How did I get here?" Brooklyn asked.
Zach smiled. "Your good friend brought you here. You were poisoned last night, but you're fine now."
"Kelly? How is she?" Brooklyn was worried.
Brooklyn struggled to sit up, but Zach gently pressed her back down. "She's fine, still asleep."
Pointing to the curled-up figure on the couch, he added, "You scared us all."
He smiled tenderly, full of affection and reassurance.
"You didn't stay up all night watching over me, did you?" She noticed his tired appearance as if he hadn't slept all night.
With one hand in his pocket, Zach checked the IV line. "It doesn't matter. You're awake now. The toxins still need to be cleared. The hospital admission procedures are done. Just rest."
Feeling somewhat guilty, Brooklyn nodded. She had repeatedly rebuffed him, been cold and even rude, yet he remained gentle. She didn't know how to face him.
"Thank you, Dr. Carter," Brooklyn said.
"You've had a gastric lavage and can't eat yet. The IV has nutrients. If you're hungry, we'll give you some glucose. If you feel uncomfortable, let me know, okay?" Zach added.
Brooklyn, for once, didn't put on her queenly demeanor and nodded. "Okay."
After Zach left, Kelly woke up. In fact, she had been awake during their conversation.
"Sweetheart, you're awake. You nearly scared poor Dr. Carter to death," Kelly said.
Brooklyn weakly smiled. "I think you were more scared."
"I was prepared to sacrifice myself for you, but now that you're awake, my life is saved," Kelly added.
Brooklyn rolled her eyes. "Nonsense!"
Kelly leaned over the bed earnestly. "Brooklyn, if Dr. Carter confesses his feelings to you or proposes, please say yes. I think you'll never meet a man who treats you like this in your lifetime."
Brooklyn looked puzzled. Kelly recounted in detail how she had called for help, how Zach had rushed over in slippers, how he had fought desperately in the emergency room, and how he had stayed by her side all night.
"Tell me, shouldn't you, with a bit of conscience, not disappoint his deep affection? The most important thing for a woman in her lifetime is to marry a man who loves and protects her. Although Sebastian is beloved by many and wealthy, he didn't given you anything. Zach is willing to give his life for you."
These weighty words stirred up an overwhelming waves in Brooklyn's heart.
'Is it true that my heart is entirely set on Sebastian, ignoring the good man by my side?' Brooklyn pondered.
Whenever she thought of Sebastian, a sharp pain was brought on Brooklyn, with a lump in her chest.
'What should I do with Sebastian?' Brooklyn pondered.
