Chapter 102 Caught by Mr. Kingsley
Brooklyn looked at her hands, which were trembling.
Based on her experience on the operating table, Faith's condition made it impossible for her to stop bleeding naturally. If it continued like this, both Faith and the child might die.
Which surgeon would risk their reputation to perform the surgery? The patient might die on the operating table, and even if the surgery was successful, only the mother or the child could be saved.
It was a harm to either one.
Brooklyn sat on a bench in the corridor, forgetting the rumors she had endured these days, forgetting that Sebastian was currently with Megan.
She only wanted to save the patient. She wanted Faith and her child to be safe!
But was she being too greedy?
As she lowered her head, Brooklyn found tears streaming down and dropping on the back of her hand.
She needed to discuss a plan with Piper.
If she found Piper, even if Piper was willing to perform the surgery, she might veto it just to oppose her. Moreover, no matter how skilled Piper was, she was still an internist.
There were many senior experts in cardiac surgery at Aucester Hospital, but none were willing to take the risk.
No, maybe there was one.
Brooklyn wiped her tears, stood up, and took the elevator.
She thought Zach might help.
She arrived at Zach's office, but he was not there.
The nurse on duty said he had just gone to patrol the wards.
Without hesitation, Brooklyn went straight to the ward area.
Zach had just finished checking on the cardiac surgery patients and was followed by a group of doctors coming around the corner. He was holding a patient's file and giving instructions to the doctor next to him.
When Zach looked up and saw Brooklyn, he handed the patient's file to Dario and whispered, "You guys continue."
The doctors left tactfully.
Zach's tall and straight figure matched well with his white coat, giving off a clean and sharp impression. "It seems my prediction from yesterday was wrong," he said as he approached.
She didn't avoid him.
This made him very happy.
Brooklyn's face was tense as she picked up a patient's file. "Mr. Carter, I need to talk to you about something."
Her seriousness made him refrain from joking. Zach looked through the file seriously and frowned. "Why hasn't the surgery been done yet? Faith's condition is very critical. Further delay could result in a double tragedy."
Brooklyn replied, "Faith is worried that the surgery will harm the baby, so she has been holding on, hoping to have the surgery after the child is born. However, the risks of this surgery are high, posing a great challenge to the doctor. After much consideration, I believe only you can help."
Zach held the file in his hand and leaned down to look at Brooklyn. "Why?"
"Healing the sick and saving lives is the solemn duty of a physician," Brooklyn replied formally.
Zach smiled slightly. The sunlight outside the window fell on his face as if all the warmth of a season was favoring him, decorating his eyes and brows.
"You're not telling the whole truth," he continued to smile warmly, with a hint of indulgence in his smile.
"I..." In front of him, Brooklyn's lies could never be hidden.
"Tell the truth. Otherwise, I won't take on this surgery either," Zach said with a slightly threatening tone.
"I don't want to see the child die in the womb. I hope you can save the child. I hope you can ensure that they will both be safe, can you?"
Zach's brows gently furrowed. "You really like children?"
Brooklyn didn't answer, but it was clear that she did.
"Inform the family, as long as they agree and sign the consent form, I will perform the surgery," he said firmly and decisively.
"Really?" Her face lit up with joy! "You agreed!"
Seeing her sudden change in expression, Zach was stunned. Just a moment ago, she was dead serious, and now, she was smiling like a flower, innocent and heartwarming.
He wanted to touch her face.
He nodded again. "Yes, it can be done in the next two days."
"Thank you! Thank you, Mr. Carter!"
Overwhelmed with excitement, she instinctively grabbed the sleeve of his white coat, bouncing like a child.
Zach was taken aback. Brooklyn was, too.
She let go of his coat as if shocked, and the atmosphere suddenly felt ambiguous.
Unbeknownst to Brooklyn, her joyful demeanor and smiling face had been noticed by Sebastian.
Zach was looking at her affectionately when her pocket vibrated, and her phone rang.
To avoid the awkwardness, she took a step back.
"Hello!" Brooklyn said.
"Turn around," Sebastian replied.
A deep voice entered her ears, shocking Brooklyn. She turned around slowly.
At the end of the corridor, a tall figure stood in the backlight, dressed in a black Armani suit, exuding a fierce aura.
His deep eyes were fixed on her like she was nailed to the cross of betrayal.
The phone seemed to be glued to her hand, and she found herself unable to put it down.
Zach turned around and saw Sebastian, his expression calm and not panicked. He reached out to support Brooklyn, and Sebastian's voice sounded again, "Come here."
Brooklyn clenched her teeth. "I..."
"I said, come here," His voice was as cold as hell.
Brooklyn dared not argue anymore. How could she explain what just happened? He wouldn't listen.
The explanations were useless, so she chose not to explain! She lifted her face, raised her foot, and took a step towards him!
