Chapter 46 Unannounced Arrival
The dawn of the next day found Brooklyn stirring from her slumber as per her routine. She slid out of her bed, donned in her nightwear, and peered downstairs. To her surprise, Sebastian was nowhere in sight. This was peculiar, especially considering his request for someone to fetch him at eight the previous day.
Brooklyn found herself puzzled by Sebastian's absence at seven-thirty. She speculated that perhaps he had intentionally left early to avoid her. With a sigh, she retreated to her bedroom. As she was about to shed her pajamas, the bathroom door creaked open.
Emerging from the bathroom was Sebastian, clad only in a loose white towel around his waist and a pair of slippers. His towering, robust figure was barely concealed by the towel, his chiseled abdominal muscles glistening under the morning light as water droplets leisurely trickled down...
Brooklyn clutched the belt of her robe, taken aback by the unexpected sight of a nearly bare Sebastian.
Suddenly, her senses heightened. It dawned on her that Sebastian had slipped into her room and taken a shower without her awareness!
Sebastian caught her questioning gaze. His voice was icy as he said, "I don't use this brand of toothpaste. Get a new one when you return today."
Brooklyn was at a loss for words.
With an air of impatience, Sebastian tightened the towel around him and strode towards the walk-in closet, flinging the door open. "Also, make sure breakfast is ready before I leave at eight."
Brooklyn was left speechless.
To accommodate Quinn's unexpected inspection, Brooklyn had stocked the refrigerator with groceries, so preparing breakfast wouldn't pose a challenge. However, she couldn't shake off the feeling that Sebastian was behaving unusually that day.
With her mind swirling in confusion, Brooklyn descended the stairs and began preparing breakfast for two, following her usual routine.
She squeezed fresh orange juice into two cups, fried a pair of eggs, toasted several slices of bread, and arranged some fruit on a plate. Time was not on her side, so she had to settle for a simple breakfast rather than a complex one.
By the time breakfast was served, Sebastian had already descended the stairs, now dressed in crisp trousers, a clean white shirt, and his hair impeccably styled, radiating an aura of elegance.
In stark contrast, Brooklyn was still in her robe, her long hair casually tied back, her face hastily washed...
Time was slipping away, and Brooklyn announced, "Breakfast is ready, I need to get ready for work."
Sebastian cast a quick glance over the breakfast spread, his brow furrowing. "Sit down."
Brooklyn held her tongue.
"Don't you understand what I'm saying?"
Brooklyn had to suppress her rising anger.
Reluctantly, Brooklyn took a seat. As Sebastian leisurely savored his breakfast, Brooklyn hurriedly finished hers.
"I haven't finished yet, what's the rush?"
Brooklyn was taken aback. She hadn't anticipated Sebastian's disapproval of others eating faster than him.
Brooklyn would take a few bites, then cast a glance at Sebastian. She sipped her orange juice, then glanced at Sebastian again. She felt that Sebastian was eating too slowly, and she even contemplated eating for him.
Finally, when Brooklyn was on the verge of losing her patience, Sebastian finished his meal.
Brooklyn hastily set down her cup and dashed upstairs! She was certain she was going to be late. She hadn't anticipated Sebastian taking half an hour to eat!
Sebastian watched her retreat, a warm feeling stirring within him.
Outside, Owen was waiting in the car. Sebastian gazed out the window at the morning yard, his arms crossed and his fingers lightly tapping on his biceps.
Brooklyn, having changed into her professional attire, hurried downstairs, only to find Sebastian still waiting for her.
Her long hair loose, devoid of makeup, and clad in a professional suit, she moved with a slight limp, the bandages on her knees occasionally peeking out.
"Get in the car."
Brooklyn queried, "The hospital and the company are not in the same direction, right?"
Sebastian glanced at his watch and retorted, "You think I'm going to drop you off? I'm attending a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and I'll drop you off along the way."
Brooklyn composed herself and got into the car. She too believed that Sebastian wouldn't personally drop her off.
Brooklyn chided herself for overthinking the situation yet again.
After exiting the car, Brooklyn entered the hospital, and the black luxury car swiftly drove off.
With a hint of uncertainty in his voice, Owen asked, "Mr. Kingsley, where is the ribbon-cutting ceremony?"
Owen was unaware of any ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for that day...
Sebastian responded to Owen's inquiry in a tone that was as frigid as it was grave. "Take me to the company!" he demanded.
