Chapter 407 Giving You Everything I Can
"Sebastian already knows Scarlett's true identity. Now, no one can stop them from being together."
Piper slumped in her office chair, her fingers weakly supporting her forehead.
Sebastian would no longer be careless, he would do everything in his power to protect Brooklyn.
Upon hearing Piper's news, Megan's body went limp, collapsing directly onto the carpet. Her weak knees couldn't support her weight, and the immense pressure from above seemed to swallow her whole.
Holding her phone, Megan's mouth trembled uncontrollably. After a long silence, she asked with difficulty, "Has Brooklyn regained her memory?"
This was their last chance. If Brooklyn hadn't regained her memory, they still had a glimmer of hope. But if Brooklyn had regained her memory...
The consequences would be unimaginable!
Veins bulged on Piper's forehead, and her voice was low and weak. "No, it doesn't mean she never will regain her memory. Some people can never recover lost memories, but for others, a certain trigger can bring them back."
As a doctor, she couldn't give a definitive answer, but the uncertainty made it even more frightening.
Megan was completely limp, her world dark and hopeless. "Piper, I can't lose Sebastian. Marrying Sebastian is my life's greatest wish. If I can't marry him, I will definitely die! Piper, you have to help me."
Piper supported her forehead, her breathing becoming more labored. "Megan, it's not that I don't want to help you. I can't get involved in this anymore. Zach questioned me about the last incident, which meant he had suspicions. If I do anything else and he catches on, both of us are finished."
No! Megan was unwilling to accept this! "It's been over seven years! I've loved Sebastian for so long, so deeply. Leaving him would be more painful than death!"
Piper sighed deeply. "Megan, maybe giving up is the best choice."
Megan suddenly let out a desperate, cold laugh over the phone. "Piper, are you scared? What are you afraid of?" She paused, as if she had thought of something. "Piper, you hated Brooklyn because Zach loved her. What about now? Does Zach not love Brooklyn anymore?"
Piper knew that Megan had lost her sanity due to the shock. Suppressing her anger, she said, "Megan, there were too many things happened to Brooklyn in the past. If she regains her memory and pursues it, you wouldn't be able to pay for it, understand?"
Kidnapping, AIDS, falling off a cliff—any one of these would be enough for Brooklyn to deal with them.
Megan knelt on the carpet, her tears ruining her delicate face. She wiped them away with the back of her hand and sneered. "Megan knelt on the carpet, tears smudging her delicate face. As she wiped her tears with the back of her hand, she let out a cold laugh. "Piper, you were able to push Brooklyn off a cliff back then. Although she didn't die, it was enough to make her suffer! So... I can do the same.""
"Megan, what are you planning to do? Get a grip! In the past, Sebastian's feelings for Brooklyn were uncertain. But now, if you dare to harm Brooklyn, Sebastian will make your whole family pay! Do you understand?" Piper panicked. Megan's love for Sebastian was too deep. If she lost control, Piper couldn't imagine what Megan might do.
Megan clenched the cashmere carpet tightly in her hand. "Piper, do you think I have any way out? Even if I do nothing now, do you think Brooklyn will forgive us if she regains her memory?"
Piper's mind felt like it had been struck by lightning, she was chaotic and confused. Megan was right. Brooklyn had argued and fought with Jenny before falling off the cliff. She might already know everything.
She took a deep breath. "What do you plan to do?"
Megan squinted her eyes and stood up, supporting herself with a large floor vase. "There's someone we can use."
"Who?"
"Samantha."
Breakfast spot
"Sebastian, I need to go back to Averlake." After breakfast, Scarlett revealed her intentions.
Sebastian nodded. Across the dining table, he wanted to hold her hand but thought better of it. "Alright, when do you want to go back?"
"As soon as possible. There are many things I need to clarify. My parents, my current situation—I need to sort it all out."
Scarlett closed her eyes in pain. Her mind was first a chaotic mess, then a blank slate. She didn't know how to describe her feelings.
"Alright, I'll make the arrangements. But..." He couldn't help himself. He walked over to her, crouched down beside her, and held one of her hands tightly. "When you get to Averlake, if you have any direct contact with Kevin, be cautious. You're smart, you can probably guess what I mean."
Yes, she could guess.
Since Sebastian could discover she was Brooklyn, Kevin must also know it. Knowing she wasn't Scarlett but still insisting on marrying her, Kevin clearly indicated impure motives.
Scarlett nodded obediently. Sebastian's reminder was very helpful. "Thank you, I'll be careful."
Sebastian gently patted her shoulder. "I know you're not a weak woman, but if you need anything, just tell me. I'll give you all the help I can."
Scarlett didn't know how to respond. Everything he gave her was too deep, too heartfelt and too overwhelming. She found it hard to bear. "Sebastian, don't be so good to me. What if I can't regain my memory and can't love you like Brooklyn did?"
Sebastian laughed, amused by her concern. "Ms. Taylor, love isn't like finance, it doesn't require investment and returns. Just enjoy everything I give you without reciprocate or feel guilty."
The redness in Scarlett's eyes finally faded a bit. She stood up, and they walked out of the breakfast spot.
At that moment, Scarlett's phone rang.
It was George calling.
"Scarlett! The surgery was a great success. Dr. Carter saved the patient's life! The surgery ended last night, and I didn't want to disturb you, so I'm telling you now. You don't mind, do you?"
The surgery was successful?
Scarlett's face lit up with a smile upon hearing the news. "Dr. Clark, you can rest easy now. Not only can I perform such surgeries, but Dr. Carter can as well."
Hearing Zach's name, Sebastian's brow furrowed involuntarily.
Zach seemed to be everywhere and always at the right time.
"Scarlett, where are you? If it's convenient, could you come to the hospital? There's still some business that might need your involvement."
"Alright, I'll be there soon." Scarlett promised herself that no matter what happens, she would see the project through to the end. Then he hung up, turning to Sebastian. "Sebastian, I need to go back to the hospital for a meeting. Please help me arrange the trip to Averlake."
Sebastian nodded with a slight smile. "Alright, I'll take care of it."
His demeanor and tone were like a husband helping his wife who was about to go out.
However...
"When you see Zach at the hospital, you..." Sebastian didn't finish it.
Scarlett smiled knowingly. "I know, Zach loves your wife. Don't worry, I don't even have those feelings for you yet, let alone him. Besides, I've already met him in Averlake."
So there was such an encounter?
Reassured, Sebastian watched Scarlett head to the hospital.
"What a reunion! Scarlett, let me introduce you. This is..." George was so excited.
Scarlett nodded. "I know him, he is the famous cardiac surgeon and theoretical expert, Mr. Carter."
As she spoke, Scarlett gracefully extended her hand. Seeing Zach's visibly uneasy expression upon hearing her voice, she smiled even more naturally and elegantly.
Zach hesitated for a moment before shaking her hand.
George, trying to lighten the mood, laughed. "Since you already know each other, I won't waste words. Scarlett, Dr. Carter has been out of the field for a long time. Now that he's willing to join this project, do you have any interest in collaborating?"
Zach's warm, gentle gaze wasn't intrusive or eager, but being looked at like that made Scarlett feel a bit uneasy.
"I've heard of Dr. Carter. He's a rare talent in the medical field. If he's willing to join the project team, I have no reason not to welcome him." Scarlett spoke smoothly, without flattery, formality, or distance. She maintained a professional distance with Zach, with no personal feelings involved.
However, as Scarlett spoke each word, Zach held his breath. Her voice was so similar with Brooklyn's. Although having the same voice wasn't unusual, why couldn't he take his eyes off her?
"Thank you for the compliment, Ms. Taylor. I look forward to a pleasant collaboration in the coming days."
Zach stood up, elegantly extended his hand, and smiled, waiting for her response.
Scarlett, however, didn't respond. Instead, she smiled apologetically at George. "Dr. Clark, I have something to discuss with you. Due to personal reasons, I might need to leave Libertya for a while. During this time, Dr. Carter can take charge."
Zach blurted out in a panic, "You're leaving?"
He had just arrived and decided to stay, and now she was leaving?
"It's just a temporary leave. If I handle my matters smoothly, I'll be back soon." Scarlett replied.
But if things didn't go smoothly, she might not return.
A fleeting look of desolation crossed Zach's eyes, quickly replaced by his usual elegance.
Even so, Scarlett noticed it clearly.
"Dario, book a flight to Emporcia for tomorrow. Scarlett is going back to Averlake." Sebastian said.
"Tomorrow? So suddenly? Why is she going back?" Dario, anxious, asked a few more questions. Realizing he might have overstepped, he lowered his head, not daring to ask further.
Surprisingly, Sebastian, in a rare display of patience, didn't get angry. Instead, he turned his chair and tapped his fingers on the desk. "You don't need to know the details. Just handle it."
"Yes, Mr. Kingsley."
Dario took the order and left the office. Before he got far, Sebastian asked, "What's the status of the MBK Group project on Serenity Street?"
The topic shift was abrupt.
"That project is in its final stages, but it seems to have been paused recently. The construction team cited weather reasons and said it would be delayed by half a month." Dario replied.
Sebastian rhythmically tapped his fingers on the desk a few times and then said, "Have Whitney draft a statement. Notify everyone that MBK Group is going to demolish it."
Dario's face turned pale! "Mr. Kingsley, this is a multi-billion-dollar project. It's about to be completed, and now you want to demolish it?"
Although he was wealthy, this was a project worth hundreds of millions of dollars. So much manpower, material resources, and financial investment have been spent, along with more than half a year's time. We're finally about to start making money!, and it was about to pay off!
Sebastian's sharpness was undeniable. "Yes, notify the demolition team. I want to see results within three days!"
