Chapter 208 Let's Start Over
Brooklyn was caught in his gaze, his deep eyes full of untold stories and affection. It was a strange but powerful attraction.
Just when she decided to end their lifeless marriage with a divorce, Sebastian suddenly confessed his love for her.
She nervously pulled her hand away. "Sebastian, don't even joke about that! I'm not a teenager anymore, and I don't believe in love."
Sebastian held back his anger, knowing their misunderstandings ran deep and couldn't be cleared up quickly.
"I'm not joking. I'm serious, and I mean every word."
Brooklyn looked at him, unable to find any deceit in his serious expression. "No need, Sebastian. Save your confession for someone else. I don't love you anymore! Can't you understand that?"
"You're lying!" Sebastian interrupted, furious. "Can you really say you have no feelings for me? Look into my eyes and tell me!"
Brooklyn tried to hold back her emotions but couldn't. She forced a bitter smile, looking down at her plate. "I don't want to see you anymore. Let go."
"I won't let go. You're mine, and you're not going anywhere."
He tightened his grip on her, his every breath filled with anger. "You don't care about me? Inviting me over and cooking for me. That’s not caring?"
"I..."
"Remembering my preferences and cooking all my favorite dishes. That’s not caring?"
Brooklyn was speechless. "I cook to save money!"
'What a ridiculous excuse!' Sebastian thought.
He was both amused and exasperated. He loosened his grip slightly, his deep eyes filled with tenderness.
"Dr. Mitchell, you're so smart. Can't you see that everything I've done is to keep you?"
One sentence shattered Brooklyn's heart. The tears she had been holding back felt like boiling, burning her eyes and heart.
'Why does fate love to toy with people so much?'
'I love you...'
'You're not worthy of marrying my son! You don't deserve him!'
'I want to keep you.'
'If you don't divorce, the scandal will tear mother and son apart!'
'Why!!'
Brooklyn's mind was filled with conflicting voices, each like a dagger cutting her to pieces.
"I'm really tired. I have endured sarcasm and pain over the past three years. It's time to end it."
Sebastian was speechless. She had hit a nerve. The past three years had indeed hurt her deeply.
Now, he wanted to give her all the tenderness he owed her and wanted to cherish her for the rest of his life.
"Give me time to make it right," he pleaded, grabbing her again, terrified she'd leave forever.
He couldn't bear to lose her again.
Brooklyn's tears rolling down. She had broken her promise to herself and cried for him again.
Seeing her cry, Sebastian panicked. "Brooklyn, what do you want? I'll give you anything."
Brooklyn felt like her insides were on fire, the pain unbearable. "Then give me freedom, Sebastian."
She closed her eyes, tears streaming down her face.
One week! If she didn't divorce, Jennifer would destroy Sebastian. Even if Jennifer later restored his reputation, the scandal would be a lifelong stain.
The Sebastian she loved was a man at the top, without any blemishes. So, she would bear all the bad things because she loved him.
Her crying was like knives piercing his heart. Sebastian felt like the villain, making the woman he loved cry so hard in front of him!
He reached out to wipe her tears, but Brooklyn avoided it. His hand hung awkwardly in the air, and his heart felt like it had been cut open.
"Do you really... not care about me at all?" he asked, each word slow and painful.
Brooklyn bit her lip. For three years, he had never helped her. She had held on with all her might, maintaining their relationship with one-sided love.
To say she didn't care was impossible because no one loved him more than she did.
"I've made myself clear."
Sebastian let go of her hand. Her small, fragile hand, now free, felt like her life had lost this man. Brooklyn couldn't help but sob uncontrollably in her heart.
She was so tired, so hurt, so desperate, and so helpless.
Sebastian walked around the table to her side. It seemed this meal was over. He put his large hand on her shoulder, suppressing his heartache, his brows furrowed deeply.
"We both need to calm down. I was wrong in the past. Let's let it go and start over."
She shook off his hand. "Wounds never fully heal, Sebastian. You might forget, but I can't."
Sebastian's heart ached.
"Let's part ways peacefully. There's no need to entangle each other anymore," she said weakly.
She had planned to divorce for a while. Jennifer came to her, saying she wasn't fit to be the Kingsley family's daughter-in-law, which had shattered her defenses. She felt like a small boat in the ocean, smashed to pieces by a huge wave.
She didn't want to hold on anymore.
"I said, I don't agree!"
