Chapter 178 A Perfect Score for Displaying Affection
Sebastian's composed, noble, and authoritative voice rang out, startling both individuals in the room.
Zach finished his examination and casually placed one hand in the pocket of his white coat, showing no signs of panic despite Sebastian's sudden intrusion.
However, Brooklyn's eyes showed a moment of astonishment. Why had Sebastian come here at this late hour?
Sebastian slowed his pace, and a refreshing scent with a hint of agave wafted toward Brooklyn's nose as he approached. It felt like a hypnotic fragrance had been sprinkled in the air, causing her heart to involuntarily quicken.
Brooklyn's last memory lingered on Sebastian's back. She remembered leaning on his broad and warm back, his calm and unhurried steps, and his intoxicating scent, along with the fragrance of roses by the roadside.
Several hours of drowsiness and discomfort had almost made her forget the intense love. Still, Sebastian's sudden appearance and proximity had put her on the verge of falling once again.
Furrowing her brows, Brooklyn asked, "Why are you here, Sebastian?"
Sebastian's enigmatic gaze didn't acknowledge the woman speaking. Instead, he looked distantly at Zach. "Is Dr. Carter always like this with patients?"
Indeed, the table full of food on the bed wasn't something an ordinary doctor would prepare for a patient. Zach's actions had clearly crossed some lines.
Zach remained unruffled. He smiled slightly at Sebastian, his clean and courteous smile revealing no hint of wrongdoing. "Of course not."
With these words, Brooklyn closed her eyes briefly, hoping to avoid sparking conflict at this moment. Sebastian seemed on the verge of losing his temper, and Zach, as a doctor, was no match for him.
Sebastian let out a cold snort.
Zach continued, "Because Dr. Mitchell is not an ordinary patient. She is a talented staff member of this hospital. When faced with exceptional talent, it's only natural to show more care and attention."
His explanation was logical and well-founded, delivered in Zach's clear and impeccable voice, exuding politeness.
Sebastian didn't pay much attention to his grandiose words. Zach already had inappropriate expectations in his heart, but did Zach think he could dismiss Sebastian with just a few words?
He underestimated Sebastian.
Sebastian walked to the window, observing the food on the table. With unmatched elegance, he quirked the corner of his mouth, "Indeed, meticulous care. Not only did you prepare dinner for the patient, but also for her family."
Brooklyn opened her mouth to speak, "Sebastian, this..."
"What? Afraid it won't suit my taste? It is a hospital, so I can manage." Sebastian picked up a disposable fork and, instead of eating right away, turned to Zach, who was visibly struggling to contain his displeasure. "Dr. Carter, why not prepare one for yourself? We can eat together."
Brooklyn felt her face darken. The worst part was that she secretly glanced at Zach and felt that he was suppressing some emotion.
It was the dinner Zach had prepared for Brooklyn and him. Where did Sebastian learn this skill of taking over? His dominance was truly impressive.
"It's okay. I have other matters to attend to. Enjoy yourself." Zach's gentle tone had a hint of tension, revealing his inner frustration.
"I see." Sebastian picked up a chip, blew on it at his lips, and offered it to Brooklyn, "Come on. Take a bite."
Brooklyn was suddenly shocked, staring in confusion at the chip being offered to her lips. Her tongue was sore, and Zach must be even more uncomfortable if she bite. If not, although Sebastian's eyes held a hint of a smile, she would not end well.
"Mr. Kingsley, Dr. Mitchell has a tongue injury and may not be able to eat. Chewing may also hurt her tongue," Zach explained.
Sebastian furrowed his brow, a flash of surprise passing through his eyes. "What happened to your tongue?"
So, Zach was checking her tongue just now, wasn't he?
Brooklyn casually replied, "Nothing. I bit it while eating."
Zach frowned. As he examined the marks of the injury, he realized it wasn't as simple as a bite injury while eating.
In that case, Sebastian picked up the oatmeal porridge, scooped a spoonful, blew on it, and offered it to her lips. "It's not hot. Take a sip, and swallow it without chewing."
Brooklyn glanced at Zach, feeling his eyes and expression. She sensed Zach's inner turmoil at this moment. Sebastian's act of overt affection, especially in front of Zach, seemed excessive.
Was he deliberately trying to embarrass Zach?
He could handle it, but Brooklyn couldn't let it.
"Sebastian, eat it yourself. I don't want it anymore." She turned her head away from the spoon, deciding not to open her mouth.
Sebastian persisted, holding the spoon near her lips. With a low, magnetic voice, he coaxed her like a child, "Come on. Take a bite. How can you stay healthy if you don't eat?"
Brooklyn's face turned completely dark. 'Sebastian, can't you stop acting so convincingly?'
Zach's hand in his pocket tightened. It was clear to see how apparent Sebastian's feigned tenderness was at this moment. He was Brooklyn's husband, and no matter what he did, it seemed perfectly reasonable.
Feeling helpless, Brooklyn reluctantly took a sip. The porridge had cooled down, not burning her tongue, with a hint of sweetness as she tasted it. She was truly hungry and wanted another bite.
"I'll do it myself." She reached for the plate, but Sebastian disagreed, scooping another spoonful and offering it to her, "You're weak now. Let me do it."
Seeing this, Zach decided to leave. "Enjoy yourselves. I have other matters to attend to, so I have to leave."
