Chapter 120 She Has a Fever
His face, backlit by the light, was clean, with sweat dripping down. Brooklyn turned her eyes away, not wanting to look anymore. "No wonder you're Dr. Carter; you handle wounds so quickly. There's a patient with a fracture. Could you take a look? The orthopedic doctor just said surgery is needed."
After Zach finished treating Brooklyn's wound, he took off his coat and draped it over her. Her lab coat was no longer wearable, and her white shirt underneath was stained with blood.
After comforting her, he turned to the seven doctors, all of whom had their heads down, not daring to breathe loudly.
Zach glared at them, feeling the urge to strangle them. Fortunately, Brooklyn was fine now. If anything had happened to her, Zach might have gone mad.
"You all, prepare for an extended internship."
The group didn't dare to speak, only nodding in agreement.
The girl with the injured leg was helped to sit up. Zach put on gloves and touched her leg. "How did you get hurt?"
The girl stared blankly at Zach's profile. It was the first time in her life she had seen such a handsome man, so she was mesmerized.
Zach frowned and casually picked up a mask to put on. "How did you get hurt? Did you hit anything when you got injured?"
Seeing Zach put on the mask, Brooklyn, lying on the stretcher, couldn't help but laugh.
The girl finally snapped out of it. "I rolled down the mountain and seemed to hit a rock."
Zach turned to the young doctor who had insisted on surgery earlier. His patience, which had been wearing thin, returned, but his tone remained icy. "Watch closely. This is how you handle such situations in the future."
Two doctors held the girl's arms to keep her balanced. Zach squatted down, holding her leg with both hands. "You should be thankful you haven't grown taller in the past year."
The girl was puzzled, but the other doctors understood and remained silent.
Brooklyn understood, too. Knowing he had found a solution, she felt relieved. She turned her head to Zach and found his serious demeanor when treating patients was always so captivating.
Suddenly, she felt a bit worried, thinking, 'If I watch Zach save people too often, will I fall for him?'
"Ah!"
The girl suddenly let out an earth-shattering scream. The two male doctors holding her were thrown off by her immense struggle.
Zach held her leg. "If you want to walk again, bear with it and don't move."
The girl gritted her teeth in pain. "You're so handsome, but why are you so rough?"
Zach picked up a splint. "If I weren't rough, how could I set your bone? The bone is now realigned. For the next two months, try not to put weight on this leg. Also, the internal bruising needs to be gradually cleared. Apply heat twice a day."
After saying this, Zach handed her over to another doctor. "Help her with the splint."
After dealing with this, the villagers in line looked up at Zach. "Doctor, can you treat us?"
With his attention only on Brooklyn, Zach glanced at her and said, "There are seven doctors here. They will take good care of you."
With that, he walked over to Brooklyn. Her face was a bit flushed, which wasn't a normal color. He reached out to touch her forehead, then his own. "Why are you so hot?"
"Am I? I didn't feel it."
Zach was momentarily speechless. "You have a fever and didn't know?"
Brooklyn extended her uninjured hand to touch her forehead. "I guess I do. It's no big deal; I didn't even notice."
Zach felt helpless. He took out a stethoscope to listen to Brooklyn's breathing, frowning. "You have a cold with increased respiratory burden. As a doctor, you should know better."
Indeed, she had soaked in the pool for so long, then slept on the couch all night. She hadn't even had time to get her medication before being sent to the mountains.
"It's just a minor issue, nothing compared to my arm." Brooklyn gave Zach a carefree smile.
That smile was polite enough, courteous enough.
It was enough to make Zach angry.
"Don't smile at me like that, Dr. Mitchell. I know you rejected me, so there's no need to emphasize it." Zach brought over a medical kit, took out some fever-reducing medicine, and injected it into the IV.
Brooklyn felt helpless, with her intention seen through by Zach.
As Zach packed up the medical kit, he asked nonchalantly, "Does Sebastian know?"
Brooklyn turned to his downcast eyes. Only then did she notice that Zach's eyelashes were long and thick. She had to admit that Zach was very good-looking, not in Sebastian's sharp, striking way but in a gentle, understated way.
"Him? My husband? Probably not."
Their relationship wasn't close enough to report to each other when traveling. Although there was one time when Sebastian had told her in advance about a trip, that was because they lived together.
Where she went, what she did, and with whom seemed to have nothing to do with Sebastian. She couldn't affect him.
Brooklyn thought, 'He probably doesn't care, right?'
