Chapter 465 Can't Let My Wife Suffer Injustice
Making a deal?
Sebastian slid into the driver's seat with a smooth, elegant motion, glancing at his watch. "Mr. Scott, breaking the law means facing legal consequences. I can't override the laws of Libertya."
Simon's heart sank. He wasn't afraid of Sebastian making harsh demands; he was terrified that Sebastian wouldn't make any demands at all and would let the situation spiral out of control.
"Mr. Kingsley, with your status and influence, if you drop the charges against Megan, you could easily resolve this problem. We're both businessmen; we don't engage in losing deals. Megan going to jail benefits neither of us..."
"Doesn't benefit me?" Sebastian's fingers tapped the steering wheel. "Megan hurt my wife. Bringing her to justice is the only way to right that wrong. For me, that's very meaningful."
"Mr. Kingsley, businessmen aim for maximum profit. What you're doing now might feel good, but it doesn't bring any tangible benefits. I can give you what you want if you let her go." Simon was anxious.
But Sebastian's lips curled into a cold, frosty smile. "Oh? Mr. Scott, do you think your so-called benefits outweigh my wife's grievances in my eyes?"
Maximum profit? Her happiness was his greatest profit.
Simon knew well that Sebastian was famously protective of Brooklyn. Negotiating terms now was unwise, but he had no better option.
Failing to protect Megan was like losing an arm for him. He wasn't helping Megan; he was helping himself.
Simon forced a flattering smile. "Mr. Kingsley, I heard you're developing the harbor. I happen to have some land there. If you don't mind, I could..."
"No need." Sebastian dismissed the conversation, tossing his phone aside. Before he could start the car, Brooklyn's car pulled up beside his, window to window.
Brooklyn rolled down her window, her long hair cascading over her shoulders, a strand playfully blowing in the wind, making her look even more enchanting.
"Was that a call pleading for Megan?" she guessed, knowing no one else would be so persistent.
They exchanged a smile from their cars. Sebastian rubbed his forehead. "Yes, it was Simon, trying to negotiate terms to get me to release Megan."
Brooklyn raised an eyebrow. "Judging by your expression, you didn't agree."
"Of course not. Simon's entire fortune couldn't outweigh your grievances. As for Megan, prison might be the best place for her." Sebastian's eyes held a deep, unwavering anger. He had once indulged and trusted Megan, but now, he had no patience left for her.
Brooklyn appreciated Sebastian's words but thought for a moment. "Wait, Mr. Kingsley, Megan kidnapped me. If anyone should be pleaded with, it should be me. This makes me feel a bit left out."
Sebastian's gaze softened like the morning sun. "You're right, honey. But I was afraid you'd be too soft-hearted."
Brooklyn replied, "Whether I'm soft-hearted depends on the person. Besides, if..."
She trailed off, changing the subject. "I need to get to work. Maybe I'll receive a gift today."
Sebastian's eyes narrowed. "Oh?"
Brooklyn patted the steering wheel. "See you tonight, Mr. Kingsley!"
As her car sped away, Sebastian shook his head with a smile. What was his wife up to now?
Lawrence slammed the phone down, nearly breaking the red phone in half. Furious, he cursed loudly. "Can't withdraw it? Fuck! They told me it can't be withdrawn!"
His assistant cautiously leaned in. "Mr. Turner, Sebastian informed the media that no videos could be deleted without his permission. Someone from the media leaked this, so we can't ask them to do anything."
"We must find a way to delete the video! Do I need to explain how damaging this is to Megan?" Lawrence yanked at his tie, nearly tearing it off, and took a deep breath, a troubling thought crossing his mind.
He turned to his assistant. "Where's Brooklyn?"
"Mr. Turner, are you going to see her?"
"Of course! She's the only one who can save Megan now. If she agrees, Megan has a chance. Otherwise..." Lawrence shuddered at the potential fallout.
His assistant nodded, "She's at Aucester Hospital. It's a workday. I'll find out her exact location."
Lawrence took a heavy breath. "Alright."
As the assistant left, Lawrence's phone rang.
It was Simon. Lawrence sat down heavily. "Well, how did it go?"
"Sebastian won't budge. It looks like he's determined to send Megan to prison."
Simon's words hit Lawrence like a hammer, causing him immense pain and making it hard to breathe.
"Also, I tried to contact with the media. Sebastian issued a strict order: anyone who deletes the video or related reports will be blacklisted. So now, the online and media reports are out of control. Everyone's targeting Megan. Without solid evidence to clear her name, even if we get her out, her future will be bleak." Simon added.
Such a scandal would ruin the Turner Group's reputation, and Megan and Lawrence would be blacklisted in the industry.
Sebastian was a formidable enemy!
Lawrence grunted. "Our only option now is to beg Brooklyn. Maybe she'll show some mercy. She and Sebastian are very close. It won't be easy, but it's worth a try."
"Yes."
Lawrence hung up as his assistant returned. "Mr. Turner, Brooklyn is at the hospital."
"Prepare the car. We're going to Aucester Hospital."
Meanwhile, Brooklyn had just arrived at the hospital. The doctors and nurses in the lobby noticed her, whispering and admiring her.
"I can't believe Megan turned out to be that kind of person. I used to like her. What a mistake!"
"She's a scumbag! Disgusting!"
"Dr. Mitchell is so unfortunate, going through all this and still getting hurt by that woman. Megan deserves whatever she gets!"
Brooklyn looked around at the people speaking up for her. "Don't you all have work to do?"
But they continued.
"Dr. Mitchell, stay strong!"
"Dr. Mitchell! We support you!"
"Down with the scumbag!"
Brooklyn smiled wryly. "Get back to work. No more gossiping."
The elevator ascended and stopped on the eighth floor.
Brooklyn stepped out and was surprised to see a large crowd.
Scanning the crowd, she quickly spotted familiar figue: Arabella, Jake, Zach, and even Megan's mother.
It was quite the scene.
"Dr. Mitchell is here!"
At a doctor's shout, the crowd parted, and Brooklyn and Karen faced each other from a distance.
Brooklyn's expression was calm, devoid of any emotion, while Karen glared with murderous intent.
Karen's face was twisted with rage. "Brooklyn! You bitch! Why did you frame my daughter? You just can't stand seeing Megan doing well!"
Karen lunged at Brooklyn, but Zach and the others restrained her. She struggled and cursed, "Brooklyn! You framed Megan! You're evil! You'll die a horrible death! Let my daughter go!"
Brooklyn watched Karen's outburst with a bemused smile. It was laughable.
The once dignified Karen was now disheveled and hysterical.
Brooklyn spoke. "Mrs. Turner, what did you mean? Your daughter broke the law. The police are handling it fairly. What does it have to do with me?"
"Don't lie! It's because of you! You set her up! That woman Valerie was your plant! You're trying to ruin my daughter!"
Brooklyn took a step forward, and Zach instinctively reached out. "Brooklyn, don't get too close. She's a madwoman now."
Brooklyn smiled and looked at Karen. "A setup? Mrs. Turner? Should we go to the police and listen to the testimony?"
Karen's face contorted with rage. "Brooklyn! You're gloating now, but the law won't let you get away with this! I'll see you dead!"
Such vile words.
Brooklyn laughed, "Mrs. Turner, I advise you to be polite. I still have a say in your daughter's future. Angering me won't help you."
Karen struggled again, her clothes disheveled, barely covering her. She spat and raged, "If you harm my daughter, I'll kill you first!"
Arabella stomped over to Brooklyn, fuming. "Dr. Mitchell, this woman has been cursing for ages. Everyone in cardiology knows. It's disgusting! Should we have her thrown out?"
However, Brooklyn remained calm. "Oh? Did anyone record this?"
Arabella blinked. "Record? Maybe."
"Good. Find out who did and give me the video."
Arabella looked at Jake, who handed his phone to Brooklyn. "It's high definition. Don't worry."
Brooklyn smiled, pleased with her reliable assistant.
"What are you doing!"
As the commotion continued, the elevator doors opened again, and a loud, angry male voice silenced the hallway.
Everyone turned to see the newcomer, gasping.
Brooklyn's smile was cold and innocent. "Mr. Turner, I didn't expect your visit. Forgive me for not welcoming you properly."
Lawrence saw Karen's outburst and nearly fainted. He forced a smile. "Mrs. Kingsley, I'm here to sincerely apologize."
"Oh? An apology?"
