Chapter 244 Where Are You?

"Listen, this wasn't me. I have no idea who's behind this. You'd better get your act together and find out who this person is, what their background is, and what their goals are with the Mitchell Group. Also, call a board meeting ASAP and meet this person face-to-face."

Seraphina's laugh came through the line, sounding as if she'd just heard a child tell a ridiculously naive joke, "Brooklyn, are you seriously that clueless? You want me to find out who's behind this? Hahaha, do you think I'm a cop or a detective?"

Brooklyn's eyes narrowed into slits. "The Mitchell Group is falling apart because of you, and you're telling me you can't find out anything? What kind of joke is this?"

"The joke's on you! Brooklyn, do you think everyone's like Sebastian, who can just dig up information easily? The Mitchell Group isn't like MBK Group, who's a top player in the business world!"

Brooklyn ground her teeth, gripping the steering wheel so hard that egg yolk from her hair dripped onto her hand, making her look a complete mess. "The Mitchell Group is no longer yours, Seraphina. You don't need to be so smug."

Seraphina retorted coldly, "The Mitchell Group may not be under my control anymore, but I'm still a shareholder!"

Brooklyn pounded the steering wheel in frustration!

She slammed the phone down in a fit of rage.

She thought, 'Who can it be?

'Becoming the largest shareholder of the Mitchell Group means holding more shares than Seraphina. Who could have purchased over 25% of the Mitchell Group's equity in one go?'

It was already nine in the morning, and the news was breaking on both TV and online platforms.

"The Mitchell Group, which saw its stock price plummet due to Susie's scandal, has undergone dramatic changes in less than a day, breaking records for the fastest change of chairman in history! From the initial turmoil to the new ownership of the Mitchell Group, it only took a few hours. The mysterious buyer, who refuses to disclose their identity, has yet to make any statements."

The news reached the Kingsley family, Zach, Brooklyn, and others simultaneously.

The Kingsley family's reaction was immediate and predictable. They were convinced Sebastian was behind it!

"Unbelievable! Not only is Sebastian not fixing the mess he made, but now he's found time to help Brooklyn!"

Jennifer tried to defend Sebastian, "Sebastian was on a plane when this happened. How could he have known? And when he landed in Averlake, he was under immense pressure from Pugetland. He barely had time or energy for anything else."

"Just because he wasn't physically present doesn't mean he's not involved. The money he invested in the Mitchell family was substantial. It couldn't have been done without him!"

"Brian, with such a large financial move, the company would definitely have noticed. The finance department would…"

"Enough! If he's trying to keep it from the family, do you think he'd let you know?"

Brian slammed down his statement and stormed out of the room, leaving Jennifer alone, staring at the empty space, her fingers nervously rubbing her forehead. She thought, 'Sebastian, you really don't get it! You just don't get it!'

Brian's biggest frustration was the connection between the Kingsley family and the Mitchell family. To him, the Mitchell Group was trash unworthy of consideration, and associating it with the Kingsley family was an insult.

If Sebastian were privately helping the Mitchell Group and had become its largest shareholder, set to take control, Brian would make sure to break his legs.

Grace Watson tried to reach her son but found her calls going unanswered.

Zach stared at the news, his grip tightening on the phone.

He thought, 'How could this happen?!'

"Hello? Why aren't you speaking? The money has been withdrawn. What do you plan to do with it? Hello?"

Zach stared at the screen where the news had just aired, feeling frozen in place. He thought, 'Mitchell Group has been seized mid-transition—who was behind this? Sebastian? He is currently in Averlake, stretched thin, so how can he possibly spare enough energy to meddle with Mitchell Group?'

"Forget it for now. Just leave it alone," Zach muttered under his breath, slipping his phone into his pocket. He hadn't slept a wink, and the rapid changes at Mitchell Group felt overwhelming, evaporating in the blink of an eye.

He couldn't help but wonder how Brooklyn was holding up at the moment.

After a moment of hesitation, he decided to give Brooklyn a call, but it went straight to voicemail.

He thought, 'She won't do something reckless, will she?'

With a sudden surge of worry, Zach dashed down the stairs and jumped into his car, heading for the hospital.

Meanwhile, Brooklyn had returned to her rented apartment, stripping off her grimy clothes and standing under the relentless shower. The water cascaded down her, mingling with the tears that streamed down her face, her wet hair sticking to her back and shoulders.

Finally, she sank to the floor, knees hugged tightly to her chest, burying her head between them as the sobs broke free.

Her world was crumbling—her company was taken over, her house was snagged away, and everything once rightfully hers was disappearing far too quickly for her to bear. Brooklyn wasn't the kind of person to cry or make a scene, but in that moment, the tears were her only outlet for the pent-up frustration and heartbreak.

Having washed away the grime, she weakly untangled the towel wrapped around her and, with unsteady steps, made her way to the living room. But before she could hit the couch, the sharp pang in her stomach hit her like a freight train.

Clutching her fists against her stomach, she curled into a tiny ball, breath hitching, tears flowing freely down her cheeks.

She thought, 'Sebastian. Where are you?'
