Chapter 88 I Have a Responsibility to Protect Her

At hospital.

It was in rush hour.

Brooklyn didn't want to be seen too close to Zach. She hinted as they got on the elevator, "I can go back by myself. Taking the bus is very convenient."

She absolutely wouldn't let Zach drive her home. She didn't want Zach to know too much about her, her residence, family relationships, or marital status. She felt that the less Zach knew, the better it would be for both of them.

"I respect your decision, but can you give me a little respect? I've already been rejected by you. Can't you even give me a chance to walk together?" Zach retorted.

With that, she really didn't know what else to say, so she let him follow her.

After getting off the elevator and passing through the lobby, she deliberately quickened her pace. Zach knew her concerns but didn't rush. The two of them maintained a distance of 10 feet, seemingly unrelated at first glance.

Outside the hospital's main entrance, to the right, was the bus stop. "I'll wait for the bus. You can go back by car."

Zach couldn't help but smile, "I also want to take the bus back today. Does Dr. Mitchell want to monopolize the bus stop?"

"Mr. Carter, we are both adults. Can't we act more maturely? I've made it clear, between us, it's impossible!"

Zach shrugged, "It seems that Dr. Mitchell has recovered both physically and mentally. The aloof Dr. Mitchell I know is back. Alright, be careful on your way."

At that moment, a black Rolls-Royce suddenly stopped!

Sebastian had just seen Brooklyn walking out with a man, but he didn't expect them to be lingering at the door!

The flames in his heart were about to ignite Brooklyn!

He forcefully unbuckled his seatbelt, pushed the door, and stepped out!

Sebastian's long, off-white trench coat fluttered in the wind as he walked. His handsome face revealed immense anger.

He walked a few steps in front of the two. Brooklyn watched Sebastian approaching with wide eyes, noticing the brewing storm in his eyes.

Zach also felt the same.

Sebastian grabbed Brooklyn's delicate wrist, pulling her forcefully into his arms!
His iron arm was like an indestructible prison, completely restraining her fragility.

Brooklyn was shocked, "What are you doing?"

Sebastian suppressed his anger, "You know what I'm doing!"

Zach, pretending not to know their identities, reached out to grab Brooklyn's other wrist as she was being pulled away. He was of similar height to Sebastian, and their eyes met, tension filling the air.

"Who are you? What are you doing?" Zach asked coldly.

Sebastian lightly sneered, "I should be asking you that. Why are you pulling and tugging with my wife?"

Brooklyn looked at Sebastian in astonishment. Her mouth fell open in a big 'O'. Sebastian actually admitted her identity in front of Zach?

Should she cry with excitement or reflect on when she became so lowly, willing to give up everything for a little favor? Wasn't he always the most disdainful one?

Indeed, she was Sebastian's plaything, to be used as he pleased, but never to be coveted by others.

Zach didn't back down. He maintained his composure and said, "Wife? So Dr. Mitchell is your wife. I really can't see it. Leaving her in front of the media and hugging another woman. Can a husband behave like this?"

Sebastian tightly clasped Brooklyn's shoulders, not giving her a single room to struggle. He wanted absolute control over her, absolute possession!

"It's not your turn to meddle in our family affairs." Sebastian had a lot of force. If not for the fact that she didn't dare to move the whole time, maybe his shoulder would have been crushed by him.

Zach let go of his hand as he changed from his earlier polite demeanor, "Dr. Mitchell is a talented member of my institution, and it's my responsibility to protect her safety, including domestic violence."

The two men locked eyes, the air filled with tension.

Brooklyn felt a wave of disappointment. She didn't expect her identity to be discovered by Zach, let alone in this way.

From now on, perhaps in Zach's eyes, she had lost all credibility.

"It seems you not only like to meddle but also to accuse. I came to pick up my wife after work, and I'm being labeled as a domestic abuser. What's next? Are you going to accuse me like you did during the day?" Sebastian retorted sternly.

His cold lips slightly tilted, a mocking tone in his voice.

Brooklyn bit her lip. Whatever she said now would only escalate the conflict.

Zach continued to stand up for her without being servile, "Since you are her husband, I hope you truly fulfill your duties as a husband. Instead of letting your wife suffer grievances and harm alone. As her husband, you should know that her knee injury cannot continue to deteriorate, and the scars on her face are probably because of you."

Zach's heart ached. He looked at Brooklyn again, who had buried her face deeply, only her long hair softly falling on her face visible.

"As a husband, you shouldn't let your wife cry secretly."

Sebastian incredulously lowered his head to look at Brooklyn upon hearing the word 'cry.' Unfortunately, her head was bowed so low that he could only see the back of her head.

He imprisoned her waist with his large hand, his body trembling slightly. Did Brooklyn really cry because of him?

This woman who never shed a tear, cried for him?!
