Chapter 418 Listening to Your Breathing
She said she missed him, and Sebastian's pent-up unhappiness dissipated significantly.
Her voice, transmitted through the Tranquil Abyss, reached his ears without losing any warmth. Instead, it made the residual warmth in the car feel even more comforting.
For a moment, Sebastian seemed to be filled with a long-lost warm. His thin lips no longer concealed his joy. With the phone pressed to his ear, he said, "What do you miss about me?"
On the other end, Scarlett leaned back in the car, closed her eyes in exhaustion, and suddenly asked, "Do you know how to make chili? I want to eat it."
Diana wanted to eat Libertya food, and Scarlett immediately thought of Chili. It was very common but popular, often seen on the dining table, but never got old.
Unfortunately, despite learning many American dishes, she had never tried making this one.
Sebastian's mind quickly flashed through the recipe, and he nodded confidently. He thought the dish was too simple and had never made it himself, but with Sebastian's intelligence, a dish was no big deal.
"Yes, do you want to eat it?"
"Yes, I do. But it's not me who wants to eat it right now; it's my mom. So I want to make this."
The implication was that she wanted to make it but didn't know how, and learning it on the spot might make it hard to get it right the first time.
Sebastian switched to a Bluetooth headset, placed his hands on the steering wheel, and sped up, "Don't hang up. I'll teach you as soon as I get home."
Scarlett, with her eyes closed, smiled tiredly, "It'll be twenty minutes before I get home. Why not hang up?"
Hearing her weary voice, Sebastian thought she must be exhausted from taking care of Diana. His heart ached slightly. At this moment, he should be by her side, facing everything together.
"Are you tired? If you are, take a nap. I'll wake you up when the driver arrives." His voice was gentle, uniquely deep and soothing.
Scarlett tugged at the corner of her mouth and smiled, "I'm going to sleep. Aren't you going to hang up?"
"No, keep the call on. I want to hear your breathing."
The sudden romantic words made Scarlett blush, even through the phone.
Before she could respond, Sebastian said, "Alright, take a nap. I'll be home around the same time."
As he said, when Scarlett arrived at The Taylor villa, the call hadn't been interrupted for a minute. He had really been listening to her breathing the whole way, not saying a word, but enjoying it.
"Still sleepy? Go wash your face and stay awake. You'll need to make dishes later, and you must keep your eyes and brain alert." Sebastian reminded her.
Scarlett was amused by his seriousness, "I used to perform surgeries and often stayed up all night. I'm not that weak. We can start now."
The call connected two distant countries, one in daylight, the other in darkness.
They both took out fresh tomatoes, ground beef, and red kidney beans. Picking up a knife, Sebastian said, "Let's start."
He began chopping vegetables on his end, while she sliced the tomatoes into even pieces on her end. The bright red juice flowed on the cutting board, staining her fingers.
"Sebastian, I cut them very evenly. My knife skills are definitely not inferior to yours." Scarlett admired her work with satisfaction. Under Sebastian's guidance, she had cut the tomatoes so uniformly for the first time!
Sebastian didn't argue, placing the neatly cut tomatoes into a container, "I believe you. You're always the best."
He didn't hold back his praise. Though he hadn't seen it, he was certain she was the best.
They prepared the ingredients and cooked simultaneously. Finally, they both finished making Chili. TIn the thick, deep-red stew, an enticing aroma of tomatoes wafts through the air. Immersed in the hearty broth, large chunks of beef could be seen, along with the deep red of red kidney beans and the vibrant colors of onions, red peppers, and garlic. The dense sauce glistens with the shimmer of spices, emitting a tantalizing scent of cumin and chili. Just the visual appeal was enough to whet one's appetite.
Sebastian sat at the dining table, the seat opposite him empty. He picked up a fork and smiled at the empty chair, "Can we eat now, Mrs. Kingsley?"
Scarlett sat in the dining room of The Taylor villa, in the quiet mansion courtyard. She held a fork and smiled slightly at the empty chair, "We can eat now, Mr. Kingsley."
"I want Brooklyn to die in Averlake! I must kill her!She ruined everything for me!"
Megan smashed everything in the room, locking herself in for a full two hours. Everything in the bedroom was shattered by her own hands. The thin window curtains were torn down and shredded, the heavy drapes were pulled down and piled on the floor, covered with countless shards of glass and porcelain. The six-foot-wide dressing mirror was completely smashed with a makeup box, lying in pieces on the floor.
After two hours of venting, she was exhausted. Her legs gave out, and she collapsed to the floor. Her fingers were cut by glass, and crimson blood flowed from the wound, slowly staining her white dress for the night.
"Megan, open the door! Don't harm youeself!. Promise me!" Karen said.
Megan's face was pale as she sneered coldly. The fragments of the mirror reflected a vicious face, her hair disheveled, her makeup smeared by sweat and tears, and her bright red lipstick slashed across her face, making it look like a scar.
"All of you, go away! Don't bother me!"
Megan covered her ears with her hands, screaming and roaring at the top of her lungs.
Seeing this, Karen felt both heartbroken and anxious. She kept knocking on the door, pleading, "Megan, open the door first. No matter what you want to do, your father and I will fully support you. Don't do anything foolish, promise me!"
Megan wiped her tears haphazardly, smearing mascara and eyeliner all over her face. "Support me? How can you support me? Sebastian won't marry me. He doesn't love me. I'm out! No more chances!"
Lawrence sighed heavily, "Megan, I will find a way to help you get back at him. Just open the door first."
Megan refused to open the door. How could she face anyone now? Everyone was laughing at her. They probably wished she would just die already.
Sebastian's wife didn't die, and Megan had become a huge joke!
During the argument, Piper hurried over. Seeing the situation, she greeted them and walked to the door, her voice low and angry, "Megan, is this how you plan to strike back at Brooklyn? Is this how you pursue happiness? If you keep acting like this, Sebastian won't even look at you!"
Megan's brain felt like it was struck by lightning. She jolted up from the floor, clenched her fists, and gritted her teeth, "No! I won't give up!"
Megan opened the door, revealing a scene of utter chaos inside.
Looking at her father, Megan gritted her teeth and said, "Dad, the Turner family may not be as powerful as the Kingsley family, but we're not so weak that we can be controlled by them. I don't believe we can't do anything about them!"
Lawrence suddenly fell silent. After some consideration, he said, "Megan, Megan, now is not the time for confrontation. We can't act impulsively."
Lawrence thought about the recent plummet in Turner Group's stock prices, and a heavy weight settled in his heart. He had hoped to quickly form an alliance with the Kingsley family to alleviate the crisis at Turner Group, but...
Megan stared at him unblinkingly, then coldly smiled, "What do you mean, Dad? Are you saying you don't want to help me get back at them? Are you just going to watch Sebastian toy with me?"
"Of course not! But given the current situation of the group, we can't afford a head-on clash. You have to understand."
"I see. Fr you, the group will always be more important than me!" With that, Megan turned and walked away!
"Megan, where are you going? Come back!"
Piper stopped Karen, "I'll go after her."
She grabbed Megan's wrist and slapped her hard!
The loud slap echoed, stunning Megan. "Piper, you..."
"Are you planning to go to Averlake like this? To fight Brooklyn to the death?"
"I..."
"Megan, you're hopeless!"
Megan covered her burning face, tears streaming down instantly, "I hate her!"
"I know! But you can't act rashly. If you want to do something, find a scapegoat!"
Megan's eyes widened, "Who?"
"Jenny. It was Jenny who pushed Brooklyn off the cliff back then. Now, she can do it again."
In Emporcia, the sunset was gradually sinking, and the evening glow gilded the clouds with a golden edge.
Scarlett had fallen asleep on the sofa in the hospital room, and when she woke up, she found a black suit jacket draped over her.
The familiar scent of cologne made her heart skip a beat. Kevin?
As soon as she opened her eyes, Kevin stood up from the opposite sofa, "Feeling better?"
She couldn't even remember how she had fallen asleep.
"I've had enough rest, thank you." She handed the jacket across the table to Kevin, smiling a bit awkwardly.
Kevin draped the jacket over the sofa, "You said you wanted to be friends with me? Friends don't act so politely."
"It's basic courtesy."
"No, deep down, you already know we can't be friends. I'm glad you're aware of that."
Scarlett was speechless, "Think whatever you want."
"Your mother is out of danger now. What's your next plan?" He asked.
He was straightforward.
Scarlett was even more direct, "I should be asking you. What's your next move? I'm no longer your fiancée. Are you planning to take control of The Taylor Group?"
Kevin showed no embarrassment at being seen through. Instead, he smiled, "Your husband is Sebastian. Are you still worried about what I might do?"
"So, you're not planning to let go of The Taylor Group?"
Kevin rubbed his palms together and leaned forward slightly, "A woman fears marrying the wrong man. I want to personally test if Sebastian has the ability to protect you."
Scarlett's fingers curled one by one, her eyes filled with vigilance, "What do you mean?"
"It's simple. Let's use The Taylor Group as a wager. If Sebastian can take The Taylor Group from me, he wins. The victor gets everything. But if he loses, you come back to me. I won't let you stay with someone who can't even protect his wife's family business."
Scarlett was so angry she laughed coldly, "Kevin, why are you doing this?"
He shrugged helplessly, "I didn't want it to come to this, but my prey has been taken, I have to fight to get it back, don't I?"
