Chapter 558 Who Is the Biggest Winner
Sebastian had just stepped into the revolving glass doors of the company when Quinn came running up from behind.
Quinn had also just returned from outside. Seeing Sebastian, he quickened his pace to catch up, panting heavily, "Sebastian, you're finally back."
Sebastian turned around and looked Quinn up and down. "What happened to you? Why do you look like this?"
Quinn wiped the sweat off his face, feeling uncomfortable. "I went to the construction site. In this heat, it's like a sauna out there!"
Quinn was holding a roll of blueprints, looking like he had been doing some serious work. His suit had some dust on it, indicating he had not only visited the site but had also inspected the internal environment. It seemed he was making progress.
Sebastian nodded, "Experiencing life on the construction site is good."
Quinn scoffed, "Good? You should try it next time. I don't want to go again. If I have to go, I'll stay in the car."
Sebastian smiled lightly, patting Quinn's shoulder, brushing off some dust without a flinch, "I've already experienced it. Now, what do you need?"
Quinn handed the blueprints to a few assistants who had come to greet them, then clapped his hands and took a deep breath. "Sebastian, I have some questions about the company."
"Come to my office... but first, change your clothes. I'll wait for you there."
Quinn looked at his outfit and realized it wasn't suitable for Sebastian's pristine office. He scratched his head and smiled, "Alright! I'll change right away."
Sebastian took the VIP elevator to the executive floor. As he stepped out, his tall figure moved purposefully towards his office.
The staff in the executive office area quickly stood up and greeted, "Mr. Kingsley, hello."
The three secretaries at the desk also bowed, "Mr. Kingsley."
Sebastian nodded, "Whitney, come in."
"Yes, Mr. Kingsley."
Entering the office, Sebastian walked briskly to his desk and sat down smoothly.
Whitney followed, slightly bowing, "Mr. Kingsley, what can I do for you?"
Sebastian opened the first drawer on the left, pulled out a file, and tossed it on the desk. "This is the personnel file for MBK in Britonia. I need you to verify the identities, backgrounds, and references of these people. Also, get me a list of all directors and above from the past ten years."
Whitney felt a surge of panic but maintained her composure, "Yes, Mr. Kingsley."
Sebastian waved her off, "Go ahead."
"Yes." Whitney added, "Mr. Kingsley, while you were out, someone from the chairman's office came by, but I didn't let them into your office."
Sebastian's eyes darkened slightly. "I see. Handle these files personally and don't report to the board. If anyone asks, say it's for personnel file organization. Nothing more."
"Understood, Mr. Kingsley."
After Whitney left, Sebastian turned on his computer, tapping his fingers on the desk as he stared at the MBK logo on the screen, deep in thought, 'Cedric... is he involved in more than just black market deals? Could he have used MBK as a stepping stone for his transformation? Does MBK still have his people embedded within?'
As he pondered, Sebastian leaned back in his chair, pressing his fingers to his forehead, his deep blue eyes growing darker as he stared at a potted plant in the office.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in." Quinn entered, now in a clean, light blue suit that made him look youthful and energetic. The bright color reflected the sunlight, giving off a subtle glow. The young man before him seemed to have grown up from the little boy who used to follow him around.
"Sebastian."
Sebastian pointed to the chair opposite him, "Have a seat."
Quinn sat down, leaning forward, "Sebastian, Dad called me to the office today and told me the company is planning to sell some shares to finance a new project. I don't get it. When did MBK need to sell shares for financing? Our finances have always been solid, and we haven't even used up this year's reserve funds. Do you know what's going on?"
'What? Dad called Quinn to the office and shared this news, and I don't know a thing about it. It is almost laughable. Am I just a figurehead?' Thinking of this, Sebastian kept his composure and smiled encouragingly, "Really? What else did Dad say?"
Quinn shook his head, confused, "Nothing else. He just said, as the finance manager, I should be prepared for a significant influx of funds. I mainly want to know why we suddenly need to sell shares."
Sebastian had a good idea of what was going on. "Did Dad say whose shares are being sold? The largest shareholders are Dad and me. I don't believe Dad would sell his shares for financing."
So, it must be him.
Quinn frowned, "He didn't say."
"Financing doesn't necessarily mean we're in trouble. It could be for other reasons. Maybe the stock price is high right now, and they're looking to cash in while it's good. Then buy back later when prices drop."
Quinn still felt uneasy, "I just feel like something's off with Dad, but I can't put my finger on it."
Sebastian didn't respond. Of course, Quinn couldn't figure it out. If he could, Brian's years of experience would be for nothing.
Then, Quinn said firmly, "Sebastian, no matter who holds the most shares, you'll always be the rightful successor in my eyes. The future chairman of MBK will be you."
Sebastian gave a faint smile. "If there's nothing else, get back to work."
"Alright, I'll let you know if I hear anything."
As Quinn closed the door, Sebastian's eyes returned to the logo on the screen, "MBK... what is Dad planning now?"
Feeling a slight headache, Sebastian took out his phone and opened the photo album, stopping at a picture from Benedict's old album.
His eyes focused on a man with gold-rimmed glasses. Why did this man look so familiar? He had never met him, and according to Benedict, he had died over twenty years ago.
Twenty years ago, Sebastian was just a child.
As he pondered, a message from Brooklyn came through.
Brooklyn: [Hey, I'm out in the countryside. Check out the scenery.]
Attached was a high-resolution photo of a clear blue sky with fluffy white clouds.
The second photo showed a vast field of wild grass.
The scene looked familiar. Wasn't this where he had met Jake?
Then, Brooklyn's second message came: [Benedict took your car for a drive, and you took his driver. Now I'm stuck being his chauffeur.]
The message ended with a sad face emoji.
Sebastian looked at the messages and pictures, his mind conjuring Brooklyn's image. The gloom on his face faded, replaced by a smile and warmth.
He called Brooklyn, and she answered almost immediately.
Leaning back in his chair, Sebastian's voice was low and smooth, filled with affection, "You answered so quickly? As expected of a surgeon."
Brooklyn laughed, taking a few steps forward, "I was just taking pictures and happened to see your message. Aren't you busy?"
"Busy, but nothing is more important than you." His affectionate tone was like a warm embrace.
Brooklyn was charmed by his voice, "Alright, no need to show off your eloquence."
"Enjoy your time outside. No need to rush back to the hospital."
Brooklyn nodded, "By the way, why did you take Jake? Benedict said you wanted to have coffee with him. Would Jake dare drink your coffee?"
"Yes, coffee. Your assistant has a special role. I need him to support you well, so I have to treat him nicely."
Benedict didn't believe his words. But if he didn't want to explain, so be it.
"I'll relax with Dr. Warner and the others. See you tonight."
Sebastian hummed, "See you tonight."
Brooklyn hung up, and Arabella suddenly screamed, "Butterfly! Benedict, there's a butterfly!"
Brooklyn joined their butterfly-catching game, "Wait, doesn't Benedict like bees?"
Benedict rolled up his sleeves and went after the butterfly. "Arabella, no matter what you say, I'm not taking on any apprentices."
The countryside air was fresh and clean, and the three of them moved through the woods, their laughter echoing.
Meanwhile, at the Mitchell Group office building.
Bianca looked at the news on her computer screen, her red lips curling into a triumphant smile.
