Chapter 466 Begging for Mercy on Knees
Lawrence stood there, feeling the weight of everyone's eyes on him.
He never thought Karen would show up first and cause such a scene.
Forcing a deeply apologetic and awkward smile, Lawrence knew his dignity was completely shattered today. "Mrs. Kingsley, my wife misunderstood the situation. I apologize on her behalf. Please don't hold it against her."
As Lawrence spoke, the crowded hallway filled with curious doctors and patients was taken aback. Just moments ago, Karen had been yelling arrogantly, and now the scene had shifted to a heartfelt apology.
This couple was something else.
Arabella smirked sarcastically, "Mr. Turner, don't you think that's a bit inappropriate? Your wife was cursing for half an hour, and you think a simple apology will suffice? Do you really think the kind Dr. Mitchell is that easy to bully?"
Lawrence's eyes narrowed, and he felt a surge of anger. He wanted to kick Arabella, this meddling girl, but he had to hold back. No matter what Brooklyn's people said, he had to endure it.
He smiled, "The doctor is right. One apology isn't enough. Mrs. Kingsley, can we talk somewhere more private?"
Arabella crossed her arms and stood in front of Brooklyn, looking at Lawrence with disdain. "Why change the location? Your wife yelled here, so we should resolve it here. Mr. Turner, can't you control your own wife?"
Arabella's words were sharp, showing no respect for Lawrence. She had heard about this scumbag countless times, and now she finally met him. What a coincidence!
Lawrence's face darkened. He had hoped to resolve the conflict between Megan and Brooklyn, but now it was even more complicated.
This troublesome woman! He wanted to kill Arabella right now!
Karen, in disbelief, stared at Lawrence. "Apologize to her? Why should we apologize? She hurt our daughter! She framed Megan! And you apologize to her? This vile woman deserves to die!"
Suddenly, Lawrence's hand came down hard on Karen's face, leaving a deep red mark and a loud, crisp sound. The force of the slap nearly knocked her to the ground.
Karen's head throbbed with pain as she slowly looked up at Lawrence, her mouth trembling. "You... you hit me. Lawrence, how dare you hit me?"
Arabella scoffed, "Mr. Turner, if you're going to discipline your wife, do it at home. Isn't this a bit awkward?"
Lawrence's hand tingled from the impact. He had used all his strength, hoping Brooklyn would see his sincerity. "Mrs. Kingsley, my wife spoke out of turn. I apologize on her behalf. Please don't take it to heart."
Tears welled up in Karen's eyes, streaming down her face. "You hit me to protect this vile woman!"
Brooklyn's smile spread like ripples, pure and innocent. "Mr. Turner, it seems your wife is not convinced. Such a reluctant apology is pointless. I have things to do. Mr. Turner, you should leave."
Brooklyn turned to head to her office, but Lawrence quickly blocked her path, determined and smiling apologetically. "Mrs. Kingsley, I know you're a generous person. Please don't hold this against us. I will make sure my wife apologizes properly."
He grabbed Karen's arm, who was still furious and ready to break ties with him.
"What are you doing? You've ruined everything!" Lawrence whispered angrily, barely containing his rage. He wanted to strangle her!
Karen sneered, "You're afraid of her? Afraid of Sebastian? I'm not! For Megan, I'm not afraid of anything!"
"Brooklyn is the only one who can save Megan now! The kidnapping was real, and public opinion is on her side. The Turner Group's stock plummeted this morning, and you still came here to confront her! Fool!"
Karen's eyes widened in shock. "What did you say?"
"Apologize now! Beg for her forgiveness! Otherwise, Megan's life is over!" Lawrence was furious.
Karen's body went limp, nearly collapsing into Lawrence's arms. "Is... is it true? How could this be..."
Lawrence didn't give her time to process. He pulled her forward. "Mrs. Kingsley, please accept our apology. Forgive what happened earlier."
Karen gritted her teeth and bowed her head. "Mrs. Kingsley, I misunderstood you. My words were sharp. Please don't take offense. I'm sorry."
Brooklyn smiled slightly. "It's fine. Besides, I watched the video of Mrs. Turner yelling at me before I arrived. It was quite entertaining. I think it would be a pity if only a few people saw it. Maybe I'll post it online for everyone to enjoy. What do you think?"
Karen's face turned pale. "No... please, Mrs. Kingsley, I lost my temper. Please forgive me."
Brooklyn twirled her phone, her voice calm. "I'm sorry, Mrs. Turner, but I'm not a forgiving person. As you said, I'm a despicable person who likes to use despicable methods."
Karen stiffened, her mouth twitching. "Mrs. Kingsley, I..."
Brooklyn glanced at Arabella. "Arabella, escort Mr. and Mrs. Turner out."
But the matter wasn't resolved yet!
Lawrence and Karen followed Brooklyn to her office, closing the door behind them. Without the crowd, Lawrence managed to retain a bit of his dignity, though his face and back were drenched in sweat.
"Mrs. Kingsley, please spare my daughter. I'll agree to any conditions. Just let Megan go."
Karen, trembling with fear, pleaded, "Mrs. Kingsley, Megan is young. She can't go to prison. Please, drop the charges. I'm begging you."
Karen's knees buckled, and she fell to the floor, sobbing. "Megan is my only daughter. She's my life. If anything happens to her, I can't go on. Mrs. Kingsley, I'm begging you."
Brooklyn looked down at Karen, her heart aching. Karen, once so proud, was now on her knees for Megan.
She was despicable, but her love for Megan was genuine.
Being a mother was a powerful thing.
Brooklyn pulled out a chair and sat down, her forehead throbbing. "Mrs. Turner, this is inappropriate."
Karen sobbed, "I'll trade my life for hers. Please, save Megan. I'll do anything."
Lawrence's hands trembled, his wrinkles betraying his age. "Mrs. Kingsley, Megan was ignorant back then. Now that you're married to Sebastian, can you let her go?"
Brooklyn couldn't help but laugh coldly. "Mr. Turner, you make it sound so easy."
"What do you want? What will it take for you to let my daughter go?" Lawrence was desperate.
"Mr. Turner, that sounds like a threat. And I don't take kindly to threats." desperate raised an eyebrow.
Karen, tears streaming, whimpered, "How much money do you want? I'll give you all my savings. If it's not enough, I'll find more. I'll give you whatever you want. Just let her go. Megan is about to get engaged. Her life is just beginning. Please, Mrs. Kingsley."
"Stand up," Brooklyn said coldly, cutting off Karen's pleas.
Karen's eyes lit up with hope. "You... you agree?"
"Megan's kidnapping case is solid. Witnesses and evidence are all there. Kneeling here won't change that."
"You still won't let her go, Mrs. Kingsley!" Suddenly, Karen's forehead slammed hard against the ground. Blood instantly welled up from a deep gash right in the center—a gruesome sight.
Even the onlookers outside were stunned. Megan was in the wrong, but her mother was truly devoted.
But Brooklyn had suffered greatly. What should she do?
Lawrence, holding onto a chair, was about to kneel as well.
"Enough!" Brooklyn's shout stopped him, her hand veins bulging, her face pale.
Parents had such strength, making it hard to be ruthless.
Thinking of her own parents, Brooklyn closed her eyes. "I can let her go."
Karen looked up, hope in her eyes. "What do you want? I'll give you anything."
What did she want?
She didn't need anything, but there was one thing she could use more of.
"Half of the Turner Group." She said, each word was clear and firm.
"You want half of the Turner Group?" Lawrence was shocked, staring at Brooklyn.
"Yes. Half of the Turner Group for your daughter's freedom, or no deal."
Lawrence trembled, collapsing into a chair. Half of the Turner Group, his life's work, worth billions!
Brooklyn added, "And I want not just the assets, but also the stocks. If Mr. Turner thinks your daughter is worth it, I'll consider it."
Karen was stunned. "Mrs. Kingsley, how can you..."
"Not willing?"
Lawrence gritted his teeth. "Fine, I'll give you half of the Turner Group's assets and stocks. Just let my daughter go."
Brooklyn smiled lightly. "Immediately? That's not possible. It's a kidnapping case. Even if we settle, it takes time. And I need to convince my husband. If he doesn't need the Turner Group..."
Lawrence immediately said, "Mrs. Kingsley, I'll give you what you want. Please talk to Sebastian."
"Alright, Mr. Turner. I'll wait for your good news."
