Chapter 161: Where's My Bestie?!
Zach, already in his pajamas and ready for bed, paused for a second after answering the phone. "Brooklyn?"
Yes, it was her number.
"Yes! We're heading to Aucester Hospital right now. Hurry up. She's in bad shape," Kelly shouted.
"I'm on my way!" Zach didn't bother changing. He grabbed his car keys and dashed out like a madman. His tall figure settled into the car. As he hit the gas, his Mercedes S600 roared like a supercar, with the shadows of trees along the road blending into indistinguishable dark shapes.
Zach forgot about traffic lights. His mind focused solely on one thing, that was, Brooklyn. 'Wait for me! I'll save you!' he thought.
The doctors at Aucester Hospital were stunned to see Dr. Carter in this attire! Dr. Carter, always impeccably dressed in a suit or a crisp white coat, was now appearing in his pajamas like this, circling the emergency room like a madman in the dead of night, challenging their psychological limits.
When Zach arrived at the emergency room, Brooklyn hadn't arrived yet. Ignoring the doctors' surprise and greetings, he rushed outside the outpatient building and called Brooklyn.
"Where are you?" Zach asked.
"Almost there," Kelly answered.
"Tell me the license plate number!" Zach said.
Kelly nervously recited the license plate number. Two minutes later, as the taxi pulled up, a tall figure stood outside like a gust of wind.
"Brooklyn! Brooklyn, wake up! Dr. Carter, she's fainted!" Kelly said.
"Open the door!" Zach shouted.
Zach swiftly picked up Brooklyn and rushed toward the emergency room. One of his slippers flew off as he ran.
Kelly, initially shocked by Brooklyn's condition, was stunned by the way Zach had carried her just now. 'Is that guy a superhero? How can his back look so handsome?' Kelly pondered.
Even in such a critical moment, Kelly, a seasoned admirer, couldn't help but appreciate Zach's demeanor. He was so handsome and impressive! Although she hadn't seen Zach clearly, his back alone outshone ninety-nine percent of the men she knew!
As for that one percent...
"Brooklyn!" Kelly suddenly snapped out of her daze. 'Where is Brooklyn?' she thought.
Zach, holding Brooklyn, his eyes practically shooting fire, shouted, "Stretcher! Prepare for emergency treatment!"
"Dr. Mitchell, wake up!" Zach vigorously slapped her face, but Brooklyn showed no response.
Judging by her complexion and lips, it could be told that Brooklyn had been poisoned, and it was a potent toxin.
Kelly stood at the entrance of the emergency room, which was now closed.
She stared blankly at the closed door, slumping to the ground. Her tear-streaked makeup had smeared across her face, with black eyeliner and eyeshadow haphazardly sticking to her eyes and cheeks. She looked like a color palette.
"Brooklyn, please. I'm sorry. I won't let you go out drinking again. I'm sorry." Kelly regretted.
Leaning against the wall, Kelly stared fixedly at the closed door of the emergency room. If anything happened to Brooklyn, she didn't want to live either.
Inside the emergency room, doctors were fighting against the illness.
"Dr. Carter, it seems like Dr. Mitchell..." one doctor said.
"Shut up! Perform gastric lavage!" Zach interrutped.
"Yes."
Brooklyn's breathing grew faint, her heartbeat weakening. Zach was performing CPR on her with all his might. "Dr. Mitchell, wake up! Don't sleep! Wake up!"
Foul substances were expelled from Brooklyn's mouth, and her stomach thoroughly churned. But she remained unconscious, unable to witness the frantic Zach, tears of desperation welling in his eyes.
"Inject the antidote!" Zach demanded.
"Dr. Carter, this poison is highly damaging. You should wear gloves," another doctor suggested.
"Inject!" Zach insisted.
"Yes!"
Zach cradled Brooklyn who was now weak and pallid in his arms, remnants of what she had vomited still on his hands. "Wake up. You've always been a strong woman, a fighter against death. You can't fall now. Do you hear me? Wake up for me!" Zach shouted.
The doctors in the emergency room didn't dare to say a word after witnessing Zach's state.
Rumors had circulated about the impure relationship between Dr. Carter and Dr. Mitchell, with claims that Dr. Mitchell had seduced Dr. Carter. But today, they saw something entirely different.
The connection between Dr. Carter and Dr. Mitchell was so genuine and profound. It didn't seem like Dr. Mitchell had seduced him at all.
The way Dr. Carter had been so nervous earlier, it was as if without Dr. Mitchell, he would perish.
"Dr. Carter, the poison has entered Dr. Mitchell's bloodstream. The antidote needs a few hours to take effect. She still hasn't regained consciousness," one doctor added.
Zach nodded absentmindedly and gently released Brooklyn.
For three long hours, he couldn't recall how he had endured it. Each time Brooklyn vomited, each time her heart rate dropped, it felt like she was falling off a cliff. Zach was trying to grab her hand and pull her back up.
"Thank goodness it is not too late, or the consequences could have been disastrous. How did Dr. Mitchell get exposed to such a poison?" another doctor asked.
The doctors opened the door of the emergency room, and Kelly rushed over, grabbing their white uniforms. "Where's my bestie? Where is she?"
