Chapter 301 Because of her, the Accident Happened.
Time dragged on, minute by minute, and Jennifer slouched back in her chair, watching the night slowly turn into morning.
It had been five hours, and the surgery was still going.
"Sebastian had a car accident, and Brooklyn didn't even show up! Is this how she acts as a wife?" Jennifer, who had been bottling up her anger all night, finally let it out, her words cutting and her tone biting.
Quinn thought, 'Brooklyn's at Zach's place, and she doesn't have her phone, so there's no way to reach her. Zach's in the operating room, and if Jennifer finds out where Brooklyn is, Brooklyn's in deep trouble.'
"Jennifer, Brooklyn just had a close call..." Quinn said, hesitating.
"A close call?! If she had a close call, how could she leave the hospital in the middle of the night? She made Sebastian jump out of a window to find her! I'll teach her a lesson!" Jennifer snapped.
Quinn gritted his teeth. "Jennifer, you've had a rough night. Why don't you rest for a bit? I'll handle things here."
She shot him a distrustful look and said, "No need."
Quinn thought for a moment and piped up, "I'll go out and get you something to eat."
Without waiting for Jennifer's response, Quinn bolted to the stairwell, thinking, 'I have to find Brooklyn ASAP, or things are gonna get ugly!'
Luckily, the rain had stopped, and the water from last night had mostly drained away. Quinn sprinted straight to Zach's apartment.
Brooklyn woke up with a pounding headache, her wounds throbbing. She couldn't remember how she fell asleep last night, but she was definitely running a fever.
As she stood up, leaning on the sofa, she remembered she had crashed in the living room last night.
A flurry of the doorbell rang out. Brooklyn rubbed her forehead and was shocked to see Quinn outside the door. "So early, why are you here?"
'He doesn't look like he just woke up; it seems like he hasn't slept all night,' she thought.
"No time to explain. Come with me! Quick!" Quinn barged in and grabbed Brooklyn's wrist, pulling her out.
Brooklyn looked at her clothes and asked, "...Go out like this?"
Quinn was frustrated, saying, "Brooklyn, do you have any other clothes? You need to come with me to the hospital now."
Brooklyn frowned and asked, "What happened to Kelly or Megan?"
Quinn was afraid that dropping the bombshell now would make her break down, so he didn't dare say. "You'll know when you come with me."
"Fine, I have clothes in the hospital locker room. Let's go straight to the hospital," Brooklyn said.
As soon as the car reached the hospital entrance, they were swarmed by a bunch of reporters. Quinn said, "Looks like this way is no good."
Brooklyn sensed something was off. 'To attract so many reporters, it has to be something serious involving either Megan or the Kingsley family.' She asked, "Who exactly is in trouble? Tell me the truth."
Quinn didn't dare say. "Find a way to get inside and change first. Then we'll meet at the operating room. Brooklyn, be careful. These reporters are crazy right now."
Brooklyn hopped out of the car, yanked the hood of Quinn's coat over her head to dodge the reporters, and was about to get on the elevator when a guy with a camera suddenly rushed over! "Mrs. Kingsley! How's Sebastian doing? Is he out of danger?"
'Sebastian? Out of danger? What the heck does that mean?' Brooklyn thought, not answering, and stepped into the elevator to skirt around the reporters. But they fearlessly held the elevator doors open, trapping her inside and bombarding her with questions.
From the reporters, she pieced together that Sebastian had a car accident last night and was now in the emergency room.
"Move!" Brooklyn screamed, shoving a few male reporters. "Move! I said move!"
'How can it be Sebastian who got into an accident? I have to find him right now!' she thought.
The elevator doors finally closed. After a moment of thought, she went to the fourth floor to change clothes and then sprinted to the operating room.
As soon as she reached the hallway, it was already packed with the Kingsley family and the Turner family, about a dozen people crowding around the operating room.
Megan sat beside Jennifer, comforting her, while Lawrence and Karen were all outside, clearly treating Sebastian like their son-in-law.
The scene was so harmonious that even Brooklyn, the supposed hostess of the Kingsley family, felt like an outsider.
She stood there, feeling like a stranger, no longer having the courage to move forward.
"Brooklyn." The first person to notice her was Quinn. Among these people, only Quinn treated her as Sebastian's wife.
"How's Sebastian?" she asked weakly.
"It's still unclear, but Zach is operating on him personally, so he should be fine. Don't worry, Brooklyn," Quinn said.
"Did Sebastian injure his heart?" she asked, thinking, 'If Zach is operating, it means something happened to his heart.'
Quinn nodded. He thought Brooklyn looked like a fragile flower battered by a storm, ready to wither at the slightest disturbance.
Brooklyn's legs gave way, and she almost collapsed. Fortunately, Quinn caught her. "Brooklyn, you have to hold on. There are a lot of people here."
Brooklyn nodded. "I know."
"Brooklyn! You bitch!" Before she could take a step, Jennifer had already pushed Megan's arm aside and stormed up to her.
A loud slap landed on Brooklyn's face. The ring on Jennifer's hand scratched her face, leaving not only a bright red handprint but also a long scratch.
Brooklyn's right cheek was almost disfigured.
"How dare you show up! Sebastian's car accident is all because of you! Brooklyn, you just got saved by him, and you still haven't had enough of harming him! Sneaking out of the hospital in the middle of the night, why didn't you find a place to bury yourself alive! You made my son go out in the rain to find you! It's all because of you that Sebastian had a car accident! I'll kill you! You bitch!" Jennifer cursed.
Brooklyn stood there, numb, not feeling anything from Jennifer's slap. Jennifer's voice echoed in her head. 'Sebastian had the accident because he was looking for me, for me.'
