Chapter 425 Suspect, Jenny
Was he a troublemaker?
Sebastian sat in his office, recalling Brooklyn's assessment of him, and couldn't help but chuckle to himself.
He was really a troublemaker, so naturally, the trouble he caused had to be cleaned up by him personally.
Dario knocked and entered, bowing slightly, "Mr. Kingsley, I've found all the people you asked me to investigate."
Sebastian's eyes lit up with a sly smile, "Show me."
"Yes, sir."
As Dario handed the documents to Sebastian, he said, "After Mrs. Kingsley's incident, all those involved in the medical support over the past two years haven't changed much, but these few have rather special circumstances."
Sebastian opened the file, stopping on one page, he tapped it with his long, clean finger, making a dangerous thumping sound, "For example, this one named Jenny?"
Dario nodded, "Yes, Jenny was originally an ordinary nurse at Aucester Hospital. It was already exceptional for her to be sent to Jabari. Strangely, after returning from Jabari, she was promoted to head nurse of the cardiology department within a month. Her promotion was too fast."
Sebastian's thin lips curved more dangerously as he looked at the photo on the white paper. Then he flipped the document over and placed it on the table, looking up at Dario, "Do you believe she could have gone from an unknown nurse to head nurse on her own within a month?"
Dario shook his head, "I don't believe it. There must be someone behind her, and this person is likely directly related to Mrs. Kingsley's incident."
Sebastian finally picked up the coffee he had set aside, glanced at it, and then looked at the documents, "Where is she now? Bring her here."
Dario nodded, "After Aucester Hospital closed, she went to Angel Care Hospital. I'll handle it right away."
Sebastian nodded.
Jenny was just like a small pawn. She had no direct motive to harm Brooklyn, as it wouldn't benefit her directly. The only possibility was that she was instructed by someone who could directly profit from Brooklyn's misfortune.
Could it be her colleague, who wanted to surpass Brooklyn and take her place?
After all, Brooklyn's status and experience at the hospital were significant.
Sebastian pulled out another document, his eyes darkening, "Samantha?"
She had significant conflicts with Brooklyn at the hospital, and as the heiress of the Scott family, it wouldn't be hard for her to target Brooklyn.
With Brooklyn gone, she would have one less rival in the department.
But would it go as far as murder?
Sebastian shook his head, somewhat doubtful.
But when he pulled out the third resume, his hand holding the coffee cup froze. Holding Piper's file, Sebastian was flooded with memories of the past.
"Piper."
He softly murmured her name, his brow furrowing. Piper was Megan's cousin.
With this thought, a chill surged through Sebastian's heart, blocking his breath and making him uncomfortable.
He set down the coffee, the bitter taste lingering in his nose and lungs. If it the murderer was really Piper, handling it would be more complicated.
He smiled slowly, but it didn't matter.
At that moment, Sebastian's phone on the table vibrated, displaying a message from Scarlett.
[I'm going back to work at the hospital today. There's a celebration dinner tonight, so I won't be home for dinner. You'll have to take care of dinner yourself.]
Sebastian read her message word by word. He could even imagine what she looked like while typing. After reading it, the smile on his face gradually relaxed. Instead of replying, he called her.
Scarlett answered the phone while she was already on the road, plugged in her earphones, and smiled, "What's up?"
She sounded relaxed, even a bit excited. She was in a good mood.
Sebastian crossed one leg over the other, feeling at ease, "You only tell me you're going to the hospital after you've already left. Technically, this is a case of acting first and reporting later, Dr. Taylor."
In the car, Scarlett laughed at his seriousness, "So, what do you want to say, Mr. Kingsley?"
Sebastian checked the time; it was only ten in the morning. If she had dinner plans, she wouldn't be home until at least ten at night. They would be apart for twelve hours, which made him unpleasant.
"Come home early tonight. I'll be waiting for you. Call me if anything comes up."
"Okay."
Okay? After all that, Scarlett only gave him one word?
"Don't you think your response is too simple?" Sebastian insisted, not willing to hang up.
Scarlett laughed even more, 'Sebastian, where's your usual aloof demeanor?'
"Thank you, I've noted everything. Anything else? If not, I'm going to hang up. I'm driving, Mr. Kingsley." She teased him playfully.
Listening to her familiar voice was like having a piece of candy in his mouth, "Nothing else. Stay safe."
"Alright, see you tonight, Mr. Kingsley."
After hanging up, Scarlett smiled silently in the car. Who said Sebastian was cold and unfeeling? He was quite adorable.
"Wow! Honey, you're finally back! I missed you so much!"
As Scarlett entered the eighth-floor hallway, she was enveloped in a hug by Lisa, who was so excited she nearly cried.
"Alright, Lisa, any tighter and you'll strangle me." Scarlett released her arms and wiped her eyes with her fingers. "I remember you never used to cry. Have you become more emotional?"
Lisa wiped her eyes again and chuckled, speaking in her awkwardly learned Libertya's words, "Scarlett, I have good news."
Scarlett tilted her head, studying her. "Good news?"
Lisa raised her left hand and wiggled it, revealing a delicate and beautiful diamond ring on her ring finger. The diamond wasn't very large, but the craftsmanship was unique and lovely.
"Wow! What happened?"
Lisa happily showed off her ring and admitted boldly, "Cory finally proposed to me! We're getting married!"
Scarlett furrowed her brows. "When did you two get together? How come I didn't know?"
"It's been over six months, but you never liked workplace romances, so we didn't say anything. But now it seems you have changed quite a bit."
Scarlett immediately understood and poked Lisa's high nose with a smile. "There's an old saying, 'A kind person is easily bullied.' It seems I should still be a bit mean to you guys."
As Scarlett and Lisa were chatting and laughing, Cory and Zach returned from the ward. Seeing Scarlett and Lisa talking in the hallway, they exchanged a knowing glance.
Lisa waved her hand. "Scarlett, Cory's here. I'll go now."
The happy couple, Cory and Lisa, walked away hand in hand, their white coats filled with the scent of happiness.
Zach held a medical chart in his hand, hanging by his side. He smiled at Scarlett from a short distance away. Dressed in white, Zach's smile was warm and genuine, without a hint of pretense or scheming.
However, when he looked at her, his eyes were always so full of affection that it was overwhelming.
Scarlett smiled back and greeted him, "Thank you for your hard work, Dr. Carter."
"It's my duty. Welcome back, Scarlett. We've all missed you."
Without further small talk, Zach and Scarlett walked in different directions. After a few steps, Zach suddenly turned back, "You'll be at the celebration dinner tonight, right?"
"Yes, I will."
Hearing her confirmation, Zach breathed a sigh of relief.
Even though he knew that at the celebration dinner, they would still be separated by a considerable distance, he was still satisfied.
Jenny heard someone was looking for her and saw it was someone from Sebastian's side. She was so scared that she fled, circling the nurse's station to the stairs, her hands trembling as she pulled out her phone.
"Dr. Rivera, We seem to have leaked. Sebastian's assistant came to Angel Care Hospital to find me. What should I do?"
Piper suddenly stood up, dropping the pen in her hand. He actually knew!
Sebastian had found Jenny! The next step would definitely lead to her!
Could Brooklyn have regained her memory? But today, Piper saw Brooklyn at the hospital and she showed no signs!
Angel Care Hospital was in the West District, a relatively remote area of Aucester. Sebastian had investigated, so he must know more.
Steadying her breath, Piper gritted her teeth, "Don't panic. Sebastian must know you're the direct perpetrator in Brooklyn's case."
"That's because you..."
"Jenny! Do you think you can threaten me? Even if it was under my orders, with my status, he wouldn't dare do anything to me. You've enjoyed your position as head nurse for over two years; now it's time to do something."
Jenny curled up at the stairwell, trembling, "What do you want me to do?"
Piper checked the time, "Take a cab to the city now. There's a celebration dinner at the hospital tonight. Find a way to lure Scarlett away, and then..."
After hearing Piper's instructions, Jenny's face turned pale, "You want me to..."
"Scarlett is Brooklyn! Do you have any other choice?"
"What if I..."
"If you don't kill her, you're dead. Eight o'clock tonight, in Royal Club. You know what to do."
Hanging up the phone, Piper collapsed heavily into her chair, clutching her throbbing forehead. After more than two years of peace, such a drastic change had suddenly occurred.
She wouldn't allow things to get out of control! Absolutely not!
Narrowing her eyes, Piper sneered. She wouldn't let herself be put in a passive position.
The office door suddenly knocked, and Piper looked up in surprise to see Samantha.
Piper's chest heaved violently before calming down, "What is it?"
Samantha noticed her pale face, "What's wrong with you?"
"I'm fine. What do you need?"
"These are the medication lists that need your approval." After placing the list down, Samantha continued, "Piper, Scarlett is back. I just saw her and Dr. Carter heading to the lab together, chatting and laughing all the way."
Piper paused mid-signature, her sharp eyes lifting to glare at Samantha, "Dr. Scott, this is a hospital, not a place for idle chatter!"
Samantha was startled by her sharp gaze and quickly lowered her head, "Yes."
As if remembering something, Piper asked, "Dr. Scott, is your brother currently expanding his business in Aucester?"
Samantha didn't dare respond with the same tone, nodding, "Yes, my brother has that plan, but he hasn't decided yet."
Understanding, Piper said, "Alright, you can go now."
