Chapter 74 She Only Has Eyes for Him

"Dr. Mitchell, are you on night duty tonight?" Sienna asked as soon as she came back.

"No, I don't have night shifts this week." Brooklyn responded.

"But the latest work schedule shows that you are on night duty tonight." Sienna reminded.

Brooklyn frowned. Indeed, her name was on the night shift schedule in the latest email in the internal mailbox.

Ellie pursed her lips, "The work schedule is set by Ms. Rivera. Do you want to ask her?"

Brooklyn's eyes showed a cold smile, "No need, it's rotating anyway. I'll work tonight and rest tomorrow, it doesn't matter."

After finishing work in the daytime, Brooklyn hurriedly had dinner and returned to the hospital. She needed to prepare her paper and also had to be on duty, so time was a bit tight.

Zach had just started, and he was not familiar with many things. In order to quickly understand the situation of the hospital, he worked overtime to inspect the wards and review materials, unexpectedly it was already eight in the evening.

He rubbed his sore neck and stood up to leave work. As he raised his head, he saw an extra figure outside the door.

Piper stood at the door with her arm around, her red lips slightly smiling, the eyeliner at the corner of her eyes creating a slight curve, easily highlighting her charm.

"Mr. Carter, we meet again." Piper greeted.

Zach stood up, his tall figure occupying half of her sight. She discreetly observed him, paying attention to every detail on him.

The emotion she tried to conceal was concentrated into one meaning - liking.

Piper liked Zach. This was a well-known secret among their classmates since college. From college to graduate school to obtaining a doctorate, her gaze never left him for a moment.

Coming from a prestigious background and excelling in academics, she had quite a reputation at Harvard University among the talented individuals. She had suitors from experts in academia to wealthy newcomers in the business world, a constant stream of people pursuing her.

But in her eyes and heart, there was only him.

She was proud, unwilling to admit defeat, but facing him, she couldn't help but feel a sense of inferiority.

Upon learning that he had returned to take a job in Aucester, she unhesitatingly resigned from her position at a top hospital in New York and applied for the position of deputy director in Aucester.

Unfortunately, this unspoken love affair that the entire school faculty and students were aware of, the parties involved were oblivious.

Zach's impression of her was limited to being classmates in the same department. He smiled faintly and replied politely, "Ms. Rivera, I didn't expect to see you here."

Piper's red lips curved into a smile, trying to hide the heat in her eyes, "Since we've met, how about having a meal together?"

Faced with her invitation, he politely declined, closed his computer, "No need, it's not good for the stomach to eat so late."

Piper stood at the door, maintaining an appropriate distance, "Mr. Carter, are you leaving work? Shall we go together?"

He raised an eyebrow slightly, "Of course."

Zach changed into casual attire, a well-fitted suit that made his tall and handsome figure even more prominent.

"Sorry, I haven't changed yet. I'll go change. Please wait for a moment."

"Let's go down together."

Out of politeness, Zach accompanied her to the fourth floor, the cardiology department.

Piper hurried to the changing room while Zach waited outside, his gaze scanning the cardiology department's offices, and he inadvertently saw a figure in white.

Tall and slender, walking fast and urgently, she held a book in one hand and a coffee in the other, not even lifting her head while walking.

Zach furrowed his brows and chuckled silently.

"Mr. Carter? What are you looking at?" Piper came out and saw him smiling while looking in a certain direction. She followed his gaze, but Brooklyn's figure was no longer there.

"It's nothing, let's go."

As they went downstairs together, Piper kept reminiscing about the fun times at Harvard University, but Zach's mind was still stuck on that hurried figure in white.

The more he thought about it, the funnier it seemed, so he actually burst into laughter.

"Mr. Carter? Do you also find it funny?" Piper asked.

He paused, "Yes, quite amusing."

Thinking that she had caught his attention with the topic she brought up, Piper continued, "Do you remember our time at the research institute?"

Zach stopped in his tracks, turned to look at her, "Ms. Rivera, I have some work unfinished, I need to go back, sorry."

Piper opened her mouth, "Mr. Carter."

"Drive safely on the way." Zach reminded.

Piper watched his departing figure and replied, "I'll."

Arriving at the underground parking lot, starting the car, she suddenly remembered that Brooklyn was scheduled for overtime tonight. A smirk appeared on her lips, how could she miss such a good opportunity?

Meanwhile, Zach bought a simple late-night snack at the hospital convenience store and carried it to the fourth floor.

The duty room was quiet, with only Brooklyn there, who seemed to be pondering over something with a furrowed brow.

"Dr. Mitchell, what a coincidence. Are you on night duty, too?" Zach began.

Brooklyn raised her head from the book, "Mr. Carter, are you on duty as well?"

Zach helplessly furrowed his brows, "Do you think I don't have to work overtime? I am not only the deputy director but also a surgeon."

He placed the late-night snack on her desk, "Replenish some energy. The hospital exploits labor, and I compensate you on behalf of the capitalists."

Brooklyn flipped the book over and covered it on the desk, "Mr. Carter, I am quite terrified by what you are doing."

"Haha." He suddenly laughed heartily, his clear and pleasant voice adding to his charm.

Upon hearing this laughter, Piper's feet froze as if electrified outside the door!
