Chapter 542 Professor Harrington Detoxifies
Benedict was lounging in a bathrobe with a white lab coat thrown over it.
But Sebastian didn't have time to admire the look. He rushed forward and grabbed Benedict's bony hands. "Professor Harrington, how's Brooklyn doing?"
Benedict smirked. "Sebastian, I just don't get it. You rich folks always seem to get a kick out of poisoning each other. Is it that fun? If it is, maybe I should give it a shot too."
Sebastian's already dark expression grew even darker at Benedict's sarcasm.
But hearing Benedict mock the elite's dirty games, he knew Brooklyn wasn't in mortal danger.
"Thank you, Professor Harrington." Sebastian nodded politely, showing a rare display of humility.
Benedict looked up at Sebastian's tall, handsome face and couldn't help but think of an old friend.
His expression turned a bit strange, but he held back.
He reluctantly shifted his gaze away from Sebastian's face. "Got a cigarette?"
Seeing Benedict's outstretched hand, Sebastian replied firmly, "Smoking's bad for your health."
"Ah, boring! Life and death are fated, wealth and honor are in the hands of heaven. Sometimes, it's better to be carefree. Fine, you don't have a cigarette, I'll go find one!"
Sebastian's deep eyes narrowed slightly. "Professor Harrington, please tell me how Brooklyn is."
Benedict smacked his lips. "No cigarette, and you want such important information from me? Is this how you do?"
A sly glint flashed in Sebastian's obsidian eyes. "Professor Harrington, whatever brand you like, I'll make sure you have a lifetime supply. Now, please tell me."
Benedict suddenly chuckled like a mischievous old man. "Really? You said it? I don't have many hobbies, just like smoking. The brand doesn't have to be fancy."
"No matter what brand you like, no matter how much you need, I'll make sure you have it," Sebastian interrupted, sincerely promising.
Benedict stroked his chin and smiled. "Not bad, I like you! Alright, I won't keep you in the dark. Brooklyn was poisoned with a rare toxin. It's too complicated to explain, but it's very potent."
Sebastian's eyes narrowed into a dark line. "So?"
Benedict clicked his tongue. "Got any food or drink? Dragging me out late at night, I'm tired and hungry."
"Yes, Professor Harrington, please follow me." Sebastian was using every ounce of his patience today.
Benedict gave Sebastian a once-over, satisfied, and stroked his chin. "Good, I'm in for a treat!"
Sebastian had arranged a lavish midnight feast for Benedict.
Benedict lounged in a chair, eating with his hands, and praised the food. "Not bad, this roast chicken is as good as I remember."
Sebastian watched Benedict eat, trying to stay patient. "I'm glad you like it, Professor Harrington. Now, can you tell me about Brooklyn?"
Benedict tore off another chicken leg and handed it to Sebastian. "Don't just sit there, eat with me. It's no fun eating alone."
Sebastian looked at the greasy chicken leg in Benedict's hand, feeling conflicted.
He took it with his clean, slender hand, feeling his patience wearing thin.
"Don't just stare, take a bite. It's good!"
Late at night, Sebastian found himself sitting, eating a chicken leg with his hands. The scene was surreal.
Sebastian nodded. "Thank you, Professor Harrington."
To learn about Brooklyn's condition, Sebastian took a bite of the greasy chicken, chewing without tasting it. "Now..."
"Is it good?" Benedict looked at Sebastian expectantly, like a child showing off a treasure.
Sebastian nodded. "It's very good, rich but not greasy."
"I knew it! Oh, right, about Brooklyn's poison. On anyone else, it would be torture. The poison won't kill immediately, but it causes a week of suffering. When she was first poisoned, were her hands and feet cold?"
Sebastian held the chicken leg without taking another bite. "Yes, at the party last night, her hands were very cold."
"That's right. The poison first makes the hands and feet cold, then causes breathing difficulties, like being strangled, leading to oxygen deprivation."
He shuddered. "It's a nasty thing! Whoever poisoned Brooklyn, you must find out!"
"Don't worry, Professor Harrington. I won't let Brooklyn suffer in vain."
Benedict finally finished eating and drinking, smacking his lips and licking his fingers. "Don't worry, Brooklyn's poison is no big deal for me. She'll be fine. Let her sleep well." He suddenly looked up at Sebastian. "The blood clot in her brain is almost gone."
Sebastian's eyes lit up, and he stood up excitedly. "You mean Brooklyn is out of danger from the blood clot?"
"Yes! Brooklyn has a strange constitution; it always attracts trouble. Poor child! But she's fine now. Maybe she'll become immune to all poisons in the future."
Sebastian's expression darkened again. "Professor Harrington, please don't joke about that."
"No more jokes! But when are you and Brooklyn going to give me a grandchild? I haven't seen a child in ages. Hurry up and have a baby."
Sebastian was a bit exasperated. "Don't worry, Professor Harrington. We'll try."
"Good, good! Try hard."
Twenty-four hours later, Benedict had completely detoxified Brooklyn.
Benedict grinned. "Brooklyn, you got lucky this time. No need for that blood clot medicine anymore. You're in good shape!"
Brooklyn was not pleased with this luck. "Thank you for detoxifying me, Professor Harrington."
"If you want to thank me, then have a baby for me next year."
Brooklyn facepalmed. Why did Benedict always talk about kids?
MBK, CEO's office.
"Mr. Kingsley, we found out it was Susie who poisoned Mrs. Kingsley. She instructed the waiter to give that specific drink to her. It must have been the poisoned one."
Sebastian's lips curled into a contemptuous, dangerous smile. "Susie must be tired of living! I didn't go after her, and she came to provoke me! Notify the police. They know what to do."
"Yes, Mr. Kingsley. I'll get the message out immediately."
"Do it quickly. I want to see results from Marc's side as soon as possible."
"Yes!"
Dario left the CEO's office and saw James coming in. They nodded at each other as they passed.
James entered. "Mr. Kingsley, customs found that Marc has a shipment going to Britonia tonight. It's hiding a lot of stuff. Should we do something?"
Sebastian twirled his wedding ring. "Marc and Susie, neither can be spared! Notify customs."
James frowned. "If we go through customs to get Marc, it might implicate a lot of people. It could get messy."
Brooklyn was poisoned, and he cared about implicating people?
"Investigate! No matter how many people are involved, clean them all out! I don't want to hear Marc's name in Aucester again."
James looked at Sebastian's angry expression, cautiously asking, "Mr. Kingsley, did something happen? Is it related to Mrs. Kingsley?"
Sebastian's cold gaze swept over James. "Just do it, no more questions."
"Got it! I'll take down Marc's operation!"
Brooklyn received a call after the police issued a nationwide warrant for the smuggler Marc.
An unfamiliar number from another city, probably a public phone.
"Darling, I bet it's Marc."
"Answer it!"
Brooklyn picked up the phone. "Hello."
"Brooklyn, how does it feel to be poisoned? If you don't want to die, tell Sebastian to cancel the warrant. Otherwise, you'll suffer a fate worse than death! The antidote is with me; only I can save you."
Brooklyn glanced at Sebastian, who was watching her. She put the phone on speaker, as expected.
"Marc, your plan is impressive. Poisoning me to keep a backup plan for yourself, despicable!"
Sebastian nodded, signaling Brooklyn to stall for time while the police set up their net.
Meanwhile, Sebastian quickly transmitted the number to the police.
Ophelia received it and entered it into the system.
"Chief, the call is from City A!"
"Contact the local police! Prepare for capture!"
Marc spat. "Enough talk! If you don't want to die, tell Sebastian to cancel the warrant. I'll give you the antidote, or else..."
"Marc, your credibility is too low. How can I trust you?" Brooklyn exchanged looks with Sebastian, who indicated the police had located Marc.
Brooklyn nodded.
A few minutes later, the call ended.
"Darling, Marc hung up. Did he escape?"
Brooklyn's face turned pale.
Sebastian's phone rang in time, a call from the police. "Mr. Kingsley, thanks to you and Mrs. Kingsley, Marc is in custody!"
Brooklyn sighed in relief. "Great! It was worth getting poisoned this time!"
She didn't expect Marc's downfall to come so quickly. She hadn't had enough fun yet.
Sebastian's large hand covered her mouth. "Nonsense! No more drinking, at any event, from anyone. Falling for the same trick twice, Mrs. Kingsley, you have quite the talent."
Brooklyn covered her face. Falling for the same trap twice was embarrassing. "At least we caught Marc this time. I defended social order and the law with my life. Don't you want to praise me?"
Though she felt embarrassed, Brooklyn refused to admit she was a fool with no sense of precaution.
Sebastian smiled mysteriously, pinching her nose. "Alright, how about I give you a gift?"
Brooklyn's hand dropped from her face, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. "What gift?"
Sebastian cupped her face, his breath close to hers, his large hand tightly around her waist. He lifted her from the couch. "How about a baby?"
"Ah! No, no!"
"Too late!"
