Chapter 322 Dario's Humor

Brooklyn's first reaction was pure shock, quickly followed by confusion. She thought, 'Dario is Sebastian's right-hand man. If Sebastian sent him to Malawa, he must've found something out. Did he really track me down this fast? How did he uncover Brian's actions in just two days? No way can I let anyone find me!'

She stepped back, slammed the door shut, and leaned against it, her heart pounding like crazy.

Luckily, since she got here, she always kept her face covered. The medical staff were just colleagues she barely interacted with, so they didn't recognize her. Plus, she was here as Zach's relative, not as a doctor. She didn't love that title, but it was better than blowing her cover.

Still leaning against the door, Brooklyn gathered her courage, walked to the window, and watched Dario get into his car.

It was scorching outside, and turning on the car's AC would make it a bit more bearable.

The terrain here was tough, and the environment was harsh. They had electricity, but it was rationed daily, and the equipment was super basic. Forget air conditioning; even fans were a recent luxury.

Dario's car had been parked outside for a solid five hours without moving. Brooklyn saw him get out of the car once, but he went back in after a few minutes.

The local kids, curious and unfamiliar with the vehicle, quickly gathered around. They touched it, their eyes wide with excitement, and chatted in their local language.

When Dario opened his eyes, he was startled.

"What the heck!" he exclaimed, as these frail little kids up close really gave him a fright.

The kids stared wide-eyed at him, each of them cautiously stepping back a bit.

Dario cracked the window open, and the cold air from inside wafted out. The kids felt the cool air and, chattering excitedly, dared to move closer to enjoy it.

Dario's face turned dark, and Brooklyn couldn't help but laugh out loud from inside. She never expected the usually formal Dario to have such a funny side.

Then Dario climbed the opposite hill to call Sebastian and give him a quick update on the situation.

Back in Aucester.

In the ward, where the temperature was just right, Sebastian held a cup of warm tea. He should've felt warm, but instead, he was anxious and uneasy.

It was already afternoon, and the kids had all gone home. Dario drank some water, but it did nothing for his hunger. He hadn't planned for this and didn't bring any food, so his stomach was growling like crazy.

Opening the car door, Dario looked around the small, simple houses with a forlorn expression. This place was on the edge of a village, and there wasn't a single store in sight!

Earlier, there had been smoke rising from the chimneys, and now he could smell the aroma of food.

Dario rubbed his stomach. As embarrassing as it was to ask for food, he couldn't just sit there starving.

He decided to try bartering with the villagers and walked towards the houses.

Poor Dario went door to door, but he couldn't say a single word the locals understood. When he pulled out cash to offer the residents, they chased him away.

Dario was bummed out, wondering how there could be people who didn't recognize money.

Seeing Dario walking into the village to knock on doors, Brooklyn guessed he was hungry. She took some food and water from her cabinet and placed them on the car roof.

Feeling defeated, Dario walked back and was surprised to see the food! He looked around, puzzled, but no one was there.

He picked up the bread and examined it, thinking, 'Do people here really eat this stuff? Pets in Aucester wouldn't even touch this.'

Pets wouldn't eat it because they weren't lacking food, but Dario was, so he ate it. He took a bite. "Not bad."

Seeing Dario's range of expressions, Brooklyn was amused again. She really didn't expect to run into Dario in Jabari. Or rather, she didn't expect Sebastian to send someone to Malawa to find her.

As night fell, after waiting nearly all day, Dario saw the distant light of a flashlight and heard footsteps and voices!

He jumped out of the car and walked more than 30 feet forward. He saw the medical team returning, with Zach at the front, talking to a female doctor. They seemed to be in good spirits.

"Dr. Carter," Dario called out, standing opposite the medical team and locking eyes with Zach.

Zach's brow furrowed slightly, but he showed no obvious emotion. "Mr. Klein, what are you doing here?"

Dario got straight to the point, "I'm here to find you."
