Chapter 475 Mysteries One After Another
"Shit!"
Sebastian suddenly realized that his real opponent wasn't Simon and his crew, but his own father.
His dear father was actually trying to bring him down.
How ridiculous!
Ridiculous!
Sebastian returned to his office, where Quinn was still waiting outside. Seeing Sebastian's dark expression as he stepped out of the elevator, Quinn quickly caught up to him. "Sebastian, how'd it go? What did Dad say?"
"Nothing."
Quinn was puzzled. "How can it be nothing? This is a big deal... you..."
Sebastian shot him a look that silenced all further questions. "I said, nothing. Go back to your office."
Quinn wanted to ask more, but seeing Sebastian's expression, he didn't dare. He left the CEO's office dejectedly.
Back in his office, Sebastian was seething with anger. He grabbed the coffee cup on his desk and smashed it into pieces. The sound of the cup's shattering was deafening. Outside, the secretaries all stared wide-eyed at the closed office door, not daring to approach.
Dario heard the noise and almost ran to the door. After exchanging glances with the secretaries and calming them down, he cautiously opened the door.
Inside, the floor was littered with glass shards, and the spilled coffee had soaked a large area. The man behind the desk radiated a murderous aura, as if anyone who approached would die.
Dario bent down carefully and asked in a low voice, "Mr. Kingsley, what happened?"
Sebastian pressed his long fingers against his forehead. How could he tell Dario about his family troubles?
Silence, anger, and confusion.
Too many emotions tangled together, and Sebastian couldn't come to a clear conclusion.
'What the hell is my father trying to do? Damn it! How does he have so much energy to fight his own son, but won't spend a moment looking at the outside world?'
'Old fool!'
Dario observed Sebastian's strange expression. He had never seen Sebastian like this.
Well, when the boss is angry, the best thing for an employee to do is stay silent. Dario bent down and carefully picked up the shards, occasionally sneaking glances at Sebastian's still dark expression. It was terrifying.
"Dario, where's your father?"
Suddenly, in the quiet office, Sebastian's somewhat hoarse voice came through. Dario was taken aback. What a strange question.
"My dad... he's an ordinary employee at a small company in Aucester, responsible for procurement. He lives with my mom in the East District."
Sebastian nodded. "How's your relationship with him?"
Dario was even more puzzled, still bent over. "It's good. My dad's just an ordinary guy, never accomplished much. My job as your assistant is his biggest pride. Sometimes he even brags about it to his friends... But, Mr. Kingsley, why are you asking this?"
Sebastian was acting very strange today.
"Nothing, just curious. You can go now."
"I'll clean up the shards first."
Dario felt uneasy. Sebastian was acting very strange today. Did he have a fight with his father?
Sebastian clenched his fists, his brows furrowed tightly. Why had a chasm suddenly appeared between him and his father? Why?
"Brooklyn, I found out that the person your sister Susie has been in contact with is named Ralph Cook. He used to be a doctor at Harmony Healing Hospital. He started as a regular doctor and worked his way up to the deputy director of the oncology department."
When Bianca called, Brooklyn was doing rounds. Hearing this, she didn't react much. "Why is she dealing with an oncologist? Is she sick?"
"That's the strange part. Susie isn't seeing Ralph for treatment; she's giving him money."
Brooklyn closed the patient file in her hand, gave some instructions to the accompanying doctor, and walked out to the balcony. "Why is she giving him money?"
Bianca was typing on her keyboard, the sound of keys clacking in the background. After a few seconds, she said, "There's something you might need to dig into. Ralph was one of the doctors who treated your father. Around the time your father passed away, Ralph suddenly bought a house in Aucester. Do you think that's a coincidence?"
Brooklyn's face darkened. "Are you saying my father's death wasn't due to an incurable illness, but someone tampered with his treatment?"
Bianca heard the tremor in her voice and quickly tried to calm her down. "Brooklyn, don't get too worked up. It might be a coincidence. To find out the truth, you'll need to ask Ralph."
"Fuck!"
Brooklyn felt dizzy, almost unable to stand. Her mind was filled with countless voices, nearly tearing her nerves apart. "I understand. I'll find Ralph and get to the bottom of this."
"Brooklyn, if this has something to do with Susie and her mother, what will you do?"
Brooklyn closed her eyes in pain. Her mind was in turmoil, and she was unable to make a decision. She had to admit, she didn't know what to do.
"Kill her."
After some thought, Brooklyn replied firmly.
Bianca nodded. "Alright. Once we find out the truth, you won't have to do it yourself. I'll take care of Susie."
"No. This is a blood feud. I want to handle it myself. I'll investigate quickly, but first, I want to settle the old scores with Simon and his crew."
Bianca let out a howl and cursed. "Brooklyn, you have too many scumbags around you. You need to settle all the old and new scores quickly!"
"I will!"
She would!
Brooklyn hung up the phone and walked back inside.
"Dr. Mitchell, here are the results of the last patient's treatment. Please take a look."
"Okay."
The slender figure in the white coat hurriedly walked, the sound of her high heels clicking loudly on the floor.
Arabella bit her lip nervously. "Dr. Mitchell, you don't look well. Are you okay?"
Brooklyn closed the file and handed it to her. "The recovery looks good. Reduce the sedative dosage and keep monitoring."
"Got it. But... Dr. Mitchell, are you sure you're okay? You don't look well."
"Do I? I'm fine. By the way, tell Jake to prepare all the cases from the past week for the afternoon meeting."
Brooklyn finished speaking, her hands in her pockets as she walked back to her office. She closed the door, leaned against it, and took several deep breaths. Her head was still buzzing.
Brooklyn thought about it and decided not to let Simon and the Turner family off easily. She called Lawrence.
When Lawrence received Brooklyn's call, he almost fell out of his chair. He had learned his lesson and immediately adopted a respectful tone.
"Mrs. Kingsley, what can I do for you?"
Lawrence gestured for the people in his office to be quiet, smiling politely.
"Mr. Turner, Simon's actions have really opened my eyes!"
"Um... I'm not sure what you're referring to. Megan is still in prison. What did Simon do to upset you?"
Cunning old fox!
"Megan is still in prison, but Simon killed someone to pave the way for her. He's really thorough. Mr. Turner, you seem to have a short memory!"
Lawrence's face changed color. He dismissed the Turner Group executives and said, "Mrs. Kingsley, I wasn't aware of Valerie's death, so I can't explain it. I can ask Simon."
"No need! Simon is ruthless. It's not your place to intervene. I'll handle him for you and make sure he knows to be more careful next time!"
"This... Mrs. Kingsley, you..."
"Mr. Turner, the Turner Group's funds are impressive. The amount in my bank account is quite pleasing. But money can be an eyesore. From what I hear, the Turner Group's stock price plummeted after losing those funds, and its reputation took a hit. The Turner Group seems to be on shaky ground. Let's make a deal. If you agree, I'll return the money and help you through this tough time."
Lawrence's face lit up with joy, unable to contain his excitement. "Alright! Mrs. Kingsley, what kind of deal do you want?"
Brooklyn looked up, seeing the afternoon sunlight streaming through the office windows, casting a bright and clear light on her face.
In the sunlight, Brooklyn smiled. Her voice was as light as a cloud floating across the blue sky. "Simon has been careless. I want to help him. Mr. Turner, if you take off one of his legs, I'll give you half the funds. If you take off one of his arms, I'll give you all the funds. How about this deal?"
She didn't want Sebastian to handle this. She wanted to do it herself!
Simon, you picked the wrong time to act! You pissed her off.
Lawrence's face darkened with surprise. "Brooklyn, how can you be so ruthless!"
"Angry? I suggest you think it over, Mr. Turner. Is Simon's support more useful, or is the money in your hand more practical? My patience is limited. You have one day to decide."
Brooklyn hung up the phone and sat back in her chair, filled with anger, frustration, and questions. These emotions overwhelmed her like a flood.
How many things from back then did she not know about?
How many!
Her head throbbed with pain, as if being torn apart. The pain was unbearable, making it hard to breathe.
Forcing herself to take deep breaths, she managed to regain some composure.
"Knock, knock."
The knocking pulled Brooklyn out of her angry thoughts. She quickly adjusted her emotions and said calmly, "Come in."
Zach stood tall, smiling warmly. "Here's the surgical plan for tomorrow. I think we need to discuss it."
Brooklyn looked up. "Okay."
"You don't look well. Are you feeling alright?" Zach put down the plan and reached out to check her temperature, but pulled back halfway. "Have you checked your temperature? Are you running a fever?"
Brooklyn shook her head. "No. Tell me your thoughts. I'm listening."
Zach was still worried. "No, something's not right. Let's check your temperature first."
"I'm really fine."
As soon as she said she was fine, she felt dizzy, her vision darkening. She couldn't focus her eyes!
Pain! Her head felt like it was being torn apart!
"Brooklyn!"
Zach caught her as she collapsed into his arms.
"Brooklyn! Wake up!"
