Chapter 61 Resolving Doubts
Had Quinn already realized that their relationship was not going well? Or did he know long ago that they were not living together at all?
How could he have coincidentally passed by her single apartment last time? Quinn appeared to be clueless, but he had actually known everything about their situation all along.
Brooklyn made some guesses in her mind, anxiously waiting for Quinn's response.
"You fought a few days ago, right?"
Leaning against the door, Quinn seemed to show no obvious emotional fluctuations, and his tone was casual. "It happened to be a banquet at the old mansion, and you happened to got into an arguement. So, I almost misunderstood your relationship. It turned out I was wrong. You seemed very affectionate, truly disappointing."
Brooklyn's hand, which had just clenched the wooden spatula, relaxed slightly. She shook her wrist and transferred the just-fried eggs onto a plate. "Sebastian and I did have a little disagreement, but it's all settled now."
Quinn nodded, seemingly in agreement. "A little disagreement? Brooklyn, I don't think it's a small matter. Now, the situation between Sebastian and Megan has caused quite a stir. Even Dad and Mom have gotten involved. If things escalate, Brooklyn, let me remind you, you will be at a disadvantage."
With her back to Quinn, a faint smile appeared on Brooklyn's lips. "Judging from what you're saying, it seems like you're more inclined to help me. Aren't you afraid that Sebastian will find out?"
Quinn nonchalantly rubbed his nose. "Although I don't really want you to be my sister-in-law, I dislike Megan even more. If Sebastian really ends up with Megan..." He paused for a moment, "...it doesn't seem that bad."
She had hoped he would say something positive, but it seemed she was expecting too much. She couldn't rely on anyone from the Kingsley family, but it didn't matter, as she hadn't planned to rely on anyone anyway.
Three fried eggs were neatly placed on white porcelain plates. Brooklyn took some bread to toast. "You might be disappointed. Sebastian and I have a good relationship. As for Megan, she'll be just fine as long as I don't mess with her. But if she crosses my bottom line, I have got a plenty of ways to deal with her."
Quinn's gaze followed Brooklyn's movements. Her hands, which had once held a stethoscope, were now carrying today's breakfast. Suddenly, he felt a surge of pain emerging deep down inside.
"Brooklyn, you truly live up to being the hostess of the Kingsley family with your imposing presence. But Brooklyn, remember, Megan has the powerful Turner family behind her. If the Turner family puts pressure on you, your days won't be easy."
"Quinn?"
Before Quinn could finish his sentence, Sebastian's voice came from the living room, interrupting their conversation.
"Sebastian, you are back? Brooklyn has made breakfast ready. Just as you said, Brooklyn's cooking skills are indeed not that great."
Quinn turned back to the living room.
Brooklyn recalled Quinn's unfinished words from earlier and couldn't help but sneer. Couldn't she handle the Turner family?
To be honest, she felt more disdainful than fearful towards the Turner family.
"If you don't like it, you don't have to eat. Wouldn't it be better to go back to the old mansion for breakfast later?" Brooklyn brought out all three breakfasts on a tray at once.
It was a simple breakfast but nutritionally balanced, and the three fried eggs were golden and looked very appealing.
Quinn, acting childish, pouted, "No, I came all this way just to taste your loving breakfast. It would be a shame to leave. I will help myself."
Sebastian picked up a cup of milk and brought it to his lips. "Sure thing."
Seeing Sebastian about to drink the milk, Brooklyn softly reminded, "Drinking milk on an empty stomach isn't good. Eat the fried eggs first?"
This reminder interrupted Sebastian's action. His sharp eyes shifted from the head of the dining table to Brooklyn. Her smile was deliberately gentle, clearly acting for Quinn, yet her eyes were clean and showed no signs of pretense. For a moment, he almost believed that this was his wife's warm reminder.
In front of Quinn, Sebastian put down the milk and moved the plate closer to himself. Brooklyn timely handed him the knife and fork, showing no emotion on her face and not saying a word.
Sebastian's deep gaze swept from her hand, and he took the knife and fork with his long fingers. Their fingertips lightly touched above the table, creating a transient warm feeling. Brooklyn quickly withdrew her hand and avoided looking at him.
Biting into the fried egg, Quinn envied. "Sebastian, Brooklyn, showing affection in front of your gloomy brother early in the morning isn't very nice. Could you please let me enjoy my food quietly?"
Brooklyn took a sip of milk and glanced at Sebastian with her peripheral vision. Sebastian elegantly and slowly cut into the fried egg and took a bite. Brooklyn's cooking skills were actually pretty decent.
"Go back home or shut your mouth and eat."
