Chapter 525 Quinn Needs a Girlfriend

Brooklyn raised an eyebrow and leaned in closer, lowering her voice. "What do you need help with?"

Arabella wiped her forehead with her fingers. "Well, Quinn always thinks I'm just a country girl. If he sees me driving such a nice car, he'll definitely get suspicious. He'll figure out I lied to him before. So, I need you to play along."

Brooklyn crossed her arms and gave a sly smile, scrutinizing Arabella. "So, you want me to help you fool Quinn... What's in it for me?"

Arabella mouthed the word "Shit" and looked at her with a mischievous smile. "Come on, we're tight. Don't be like that. You have everything you need. What could I possibly give you?"

Brooklyn tapped her arm with a finger, looking down at the anxious Arabella in the car. "Who says I have everything? Quinn needs a girlfriend. How about it, Dr. Warner?"

Arabella gulped and forced a smile. "Haha, you're kidding, aren't you? Sacrificing myself to cover up a little lie? That's not a good deal. Please, just help me out this once. I promise I'll work hard and not slack off."

Arabella clasped her hands together, pleading.

Brooklyn chuckled. "Alright, I'll help you this time."

Quinn saw the two whispering and strode over to the car, his tall, lean figure casting a shadow. "Hey, country girl, care to explain what's going on here?"

Brooklyn glanced at Quinn's accusatory stance. "What's the matter, Quinn? Don't scare my assistant."

Arabella got out of the car. "Mr. Kingsley, what do you want? Trying to extort me? I have no money, just my life."

Quinn looked at her, then at the brand-new Audi A8. "Is this your car?"

"Haha! Mr. Kingsley, you're giving me too much credit! If I could afford such an expensive car, I'd be over the moon." Arabella tugged on Brooklyn's sleeve, signaling her to speak up.

Brooklyn nodded in agreement. "This car isn't Dr. Warner's. She has a well-off boyfriend who just gave it to her. Not bad, right?"

Arabella was silent.

Way to throw me under the bus!

Quinn: "Boyfriend? You have a boyfriend now? Weren't you always into Zach? Who was it that got so drunk the other day...?"

Quinn's words were cut off as Arabella covered his mouth.

Damn it, Quinn, you jerk!

As luck would have it, Zach arrived at work just then. Seeing a group of people by the car, he walked over to ask what was going on. Unfortunately, he caught the tail end of Quinn's sentence, and his expression darkened.

Arabella greeted Zach with a smile. "Dr. Carter, good morning."

Quinn's eyes widened as Arabella covered his mouth. Damn, could this timing be any worse?

Brooklyn saw Zach approaching, looking fresh and elegant in casual clothes. She smiled. "Morning, Zach."

Zach nodded. "Morning, Dr. Warner."

Quinn broke free from Arabella's grip and turned to Zach. "Dr. Carter, did you hear that?"

Zach decided to play dumb, and his gentle smile made everyone feel at ease. "Hear what? I just got here. Did I miss something?"

Brooklyn smiled silently. Smart move.

Arabella stepped between them, her face blushing slightly as she looked at Zach. "Nothing, we weren't talking about anything! Dr. Carter, let's head up. I have a few questions for you."

Quinn felt a surge of anger when he saw Arabella act so warmly towards Zach. He grabbed her arm. "Country girl, have lunch with me."

Arabella gritted her teeth. "Mr. Kingsley, I've already had lunch."

"Did I say you were eating? I'll eat, you watch. I haven't eaten yet."

Arabella looked at Brooklyn for confirmation.

Brooklyn played along. "Quinn missed breakfast to give me a ride. Dr. Warner, you should eat more, too. I'll push back your work, no rush."

Arabella was silent.

Whose side are you on, anyway?

As the two left, Brooklyn teased Zach. "You heard that, right? My assistant has a crush on you."

"I know."

"What? You know? Did she confess to you?"

Zach shook his head. "It's pretty obvious. I don't need her to confess. But Dr. Warner, I can't reciprocate her feelings."

Brooklyn, surprised by Zach's humor, teased him. "You're the prince charming of our hospital. Many young women like you. Are you sure you don't want to date someone here?"

"Even rabbits don't eat the grass near their burrow. I can't handle these young women; they're too much."

Yeah, he wasn't into young women. Never had been.

Brooklyn quickly changed the subject. "I think Dr. Warner and Quinn are a good match."

"Maybe, but matters of the heart are up to them. We can't help with that." They parked the car in the underground garage and took the elevator up together.

"Good morning, Dr. Mitchell."

"Good morning, Dr. Carter..."

As they walked down the hallway, people greeted them. Brooklyn slowed her pace. "Zach, I want to talk to you about Sofia's condition. Do you have time?"

"In an hour. I need to do my rounds first."

"Alright, I'll wait for you in my office."

Sebastian arrived in Averlake at 10 PM local time, nearly twelve hours later than expected due to a flight delay.

As he got off the plane, the partner's representative was waiting outside the airport. Seeing Sebastian, the man in a black suit quickly approached and took his luggage.

"Mr. Kingsley, welcome."

Sebastian nodded. "Is everyone here?"

The man respectfully replied, "Yes, everyone is here. But Mr. Kingsley, you've just had a long flight. How about resting at the hotel first?"

"No need. Let's go straight there. I'm on a tight schedule."

The man didn't dare argue. "Of course, Mr. Kingsley. Please, get in the car."

The car sped through the neon-lit streets of Emporcia. Sebastian took out his phone and sent a message.

"I've arrived safely. Don't worry, dear."

Brooklyn was discussing Sofia's condition with Zach when her phone on the desk lit up. She picked it up with one hand while holding a medical file with the other.

Seeing the first part of Sebastian's message, Brooklyn couldn't help but smile.

Zach, sitting across from her, noticed her beaming face and smiled too.

"Message from Sebastian?"

Brooklyn looked up. "How did you know?"

"That reaction of yours. Who else could make you smile like that?"

Brooklyn felt a bit embarrassed. Was she showing off her relationship?

"He went to Averlake for business. Let's continue."

Brooklyn put down her phone without replying.

"Aren't you going to reply?"

"What? No need. He knows what I'd say. As long as he's safe, that's all that matters."

So, she unintentionally showed off her relationship again.

Just then, Zach's phone buzzed in his pocket. He checked it and immediately frowned.

Brooklyn asked, "What's wrong? You look like you're facing a big problem."

"It is a big problem."

"Ophelia? Who else could make you react like that?"

"Yeah, it's her. She's getting more unreasonable. I don't know what she's thinking."

Zach handed his phone to Brooklyn.

Brooklyn glanced at the message. "Wow, she wants you to cook for her and even placed an order. When did you become a chef?"

Zach rubbed his forehead, feeling a headache coming on. "Let's not talk about that. Do you think Sebastian can convince your mentor to come out of retirement?"

"He can." She answered firmly.

"Why? Your mentor hasn't come out of retirement once. It's a tough ask."

"Because he's Sebastian." She remained confident.

Zach was silent.

Alright, no point in continuing this conversation.

Brooklyn left work in a good mood. Before leaving, she stopped by the pharmacy to pick up some supplies.

She returned to the Kingsley family villa at 6:30 PM, just in time for dinner.

"Amarantha, busy? What's for dinner tonight?"

Amarantha forced a smile. "Didn't you write the menu? Just following your list."

Ha!

"Thanks for the hard work."

Amarantha, wearing an apron, her hair tied up, and makeup smudged, looked furious. "It's my duty!"

The kitchen sink was filled with various peppers. One deep breath could make someone pass out.

"Amarantha, wash the vegetables a few more times. If they're not clean, we might get sick."

"The maid already washed them. If you think they're not clean, come wash them yourself. Wash as many times as you want."

"I'm not here to fight over territory with you, Amarantha. It's not appropriate. You're more capable, so keep at it."

Leaving the kitchen, Brooklyn sat in the living room, flipping through magazines. Among the pile of magazines and newspapers was a large photo of Megan and Simon's wedding.

Megan in a floor-length wedding dress, Simon in a wheelchair. The newspaper was dated today, and the photo was from yesterday.

So, they took wedding photos. The wedding must be soon.

Brooklyn was curious about Megan and Simon's wedding. She was looking forward to it!

"Achoo!"

Suddenly, a sneeze came from the kitchen, followed by another.

Brooklyn popped a grape into her mouth. Tonight's spicy feast would surely make Amarantha cry in the kitchen.

Quinn whistled as he came in, followed by Brian, Herschel, and Donny. Jennifer was with Brian. Except for Quinn, everyone was dressed up, likely just back from an event.

"Brooklyn, how did you get home? I went to pick up Dad and Mom after work. Oops, I forgot to call you."

"I took a cab. Do Dad and Mom have an event tonight?"

Brian gave Brooklyn a cold, disdainful look. "Yes, they do."

Brooklyn wasn't interested. "I see."

Herschel added, "The Kingsley family has many events in Aucester. You should know that, Brooklyn."

Before Brooklyn could respond, Brian sneered. "What does it matter if she knows about the Kingsley family events?"

"Brian's right. I see Amarantha is home too. So, the Kingsley family events don't include sons' wives. Good to know."

"Achoo!"

Another sneeze came from the kitchen. Despite the distance, it was clearly Amarantha.

Donny rushed to the kitchen. "Amarantha, are you okay? What's with all these peppers?"

"Ugh! Donny, they made me cook spicy food. My eyes are swollen. Ugh..."

Damn it!

Brooklyn felt a shiver at Amarantha's whiny cries.

Seeing his beloved in distress, Donny stormed into the living room, pointing at Brooklyn. "Brooklyn! You're clearly bullying Amarantha! What's your problem?"

"Why are you yelling at me? Bullying Amarantha? Where's that coming from?"

"Hah! You want spicy food for dinner, don't you? Fine! Just wait. If you don't finish it, there'll be more to come!"
