Chapter 436 Brooklyn Says He's Poor, Sebastian's Witty Reply

Aucester's most sensational large-scale charity auction would be held in the evening.

This was the best annual opportunity for the elite to showcase their wealth and grandeur. No matter when or where, this top-tier auction named "Hope & Harmony Auction" would attract thousands of domestic and international celebrities and aristocrats.

Businessmen worth less than two billion dollars were not even qualified to participate in the bidding. Those who received invitations were top-tier tycoons, so the Hope & Harmony Auction had almost become a status symbol.

The scale of the event was unimaginable.

Brooklyn looked at the invitation card with gold trim in her hand, a faint cold smile appearing at the corner of her mouth, as if she was holding an ordinary piece of paper rather than an invitation.

"Is this the invitation card that gets hyped up to sky-high prices every year?" Holding the gilded card with her slender fingers, Brooklyn's smile was a bit sarcastic. Under the dazzling crystal chandelier, she looked at Sebastian, who was lounging on the sofa like a royal monarch, and asked.

Sebastian was reading his book, his voice and tone even more disdainful than Brooklyn's, "So they say, but I receive one every year and don't find it special."

Not only did he receive one every year, but he was also respectfully invited. However, Sebastian had never attended. He disdained such occasions and couldn't be bothered to go.

Women attended either to show off their husbands or to find a suitable man with the expensive invitation card.

Men attended simply to flaunt their wealth.

And Sebastian disdained to display either in front of others.

For the past few years, no one knew about his hidden marriage, and he was unwilling to take Megan out. As for wealth, Sebastian sneered.

Brooklyn casually tossed the invitation card onto the glass table, then looked at Sebastian with eyes gleaming with intelligence, her smile both beautiful and cunning, "It seems you haven't given the organizers any face in the past. What about this year? Are you going?"

Sebastian turned a page of his book, "This year? I'll follow my wife's arrangements."

Unexpectedly, Sebastian said this. Brooklyn, who had prepared a retort, found it useless and sneered at him, "You do care about your wife."

Sebastian continued reading, he could guesse Brooklyn's expression without looking, "Do you want to go?"

Brooklyn leaned back on the sofa, gazing at the chandelier-lit ceiling, tracing the ceiling mural with her eyes, "Do you know the hotel where Susie and Marc are staying?"

"You want to meet Susie at the hotel?" Sebastian frowned, internally disagreeing with her plan.

"How could I meet them at the hotel? Dream on. I mean, since Susie married Marc and went to Aqua Vista City. Now she's back home, as her family, I should send them some gifts before meeting them, a gesture of hospitality, right?"

Sebastian nodded, knowing Brooklyn would definitely teach Susie a lesson. "Here's their hotel address and room number, but since you'll meet tonight, save some strength."

Brooklyn frowned, taking a piece of paper from him, "You prepared this in advance?"

Sebastian put down his book, realizing a peaceful weekend of reading was impossible.

"My wife wants to be the vanguard, so as your husband, I must prepare. I checked; they'll stay in Aucester for at least a week, so you can take your time. Don't scare them off at once, or we'll have to find their new hotel. Got it?"

Sebastian's long, warm fingers brushed her nose, it was a natural, affectionate gesture.

Brooklyn smiled slightly, turning her head to avoid his touch, "Don't worry. I'll start by testing them with minor maneuvers first. The real ambush is scheduled for tonight. Wait, from what you said earlier, do you think I'll attend the charity event tonight?"

Sebastian's deep blue eyes flashed with a calculating light, "Aren't you going?"

Brooklyn pouted, "I want to, but I have no money. I heard the auction items start at hundreds of thousands of dollars and can go up to millions. I'm just a doctor; I can't afford it!"

Sebastian wrapped his long arm around her, skillfully pulling Brooklyn into his embrace, "Well, take me with you. Tonight, whatever you like, I'll buy it. Don't look at the price, just the item."

Brooklyn, her head in his lap, looked up at his inscrutable, always slightly mischievous eyes, "Take you? Anything I like, I can buy?"

"Yes."

"What if I see a handsome man and want to take him? Can I buy him too?"

Sebastian's smile remained charming, "Of course, I'll prepare some gold bricks for you to use."

Brooklyn coughed, "Violent maniac, gold bricks would kill someone."

Sebastian thought for a moment, "True, killing them would be inconvenient. I'll bring a knife, and you can dismember them into pieces. That way, they won't be too heavy."

Brooklyn, who often used a scalpel on human bodies, was frightened by Sebastian's methods, "No need for that."

Sebastian twirled her hair around his finger, "How do you want to go tonight? By yourself or with me?"

Brooklyn was also struggling with this. They were indeed married, but she looked completely different now. Suddenly appearing with Sebastian didn't seem appropriate. Besides, having someone as eye-catching as Sebastian by her side would be inconvenient.

"I'll go alone. I'll take the invitation card, and you, I think you can get in just by your status," she teased, smiling at his face.

"Alright, I'll have Brandon take you. I'll feel more at ease with him accompanying you." Sebastian agreed.

Brooklyn nodded, "Okay, see you tonight."

The white Maybach luxury car stopped outside the Azure Palace Hotel. Looking around, the parking lot was filled with top-tier luxury cars, including two limited-edition Lamborghinis.

Just by looking at the cars, one could guess half of the attendees tonight.

Brooklyn stepped out of the car, her silver high heels and light purple pleated long skirt elegantly fluttering. The light, gauzy material floated against her skin, looking as light as a cloud dyed in noble purple.

Brandon smiled, "Ms. Mitchell, now I understand why Mr. Kingsley spoils you so much. Being beautiful has its perks."

Brooklyn wore an off-shoulder long dress, her long hair curled like a bundle of seaweed, cascading down her back and covering her skin. Her faintly visible back was stunningly beautiful.

She also smiled, "Brandon, I think I know why you've been friends with him for so many years."

"Oh? Why?"

Brooklyn's eyes twinkled, "You are bold and sweet-talking."

"Then tonight, let this bold and sweet-talking guy serve you." Brandon laughed.

"An honor."

Stepping out of the car, she saw pairs of handsome men and beautiful women, or older men with young beauties, or young men with older women. Such pairings were common among the elite.

Walking on the red carpet, her shoes occasionally picked up rose petals scattered on the ground. The air was filled with the scent of flowers and various strong perfumes from the women, creating a rich and chaotic aroma at the large auction venue.

Brooklyn was about to find a seat when she noticed a striking, sexy figure.

Susie, in a royal blue deep V mermaid dress, looked enchanting with her curvy figure and exquisite makeup, chatting with a few wealthy women.

Susie!

Now, Susie seemed quite adept at dressing up, and her manners had clearly been professionally trained, giving her an air of nobility at first glance.

But...

Seeing the man Susie was holding onto, Brooklyn almost choked.

Marc?

Could the man beside Susie be Marc?

Marc looked about forty, which wasn't the issue. Nowadays, young beautiful women marrying men older than their fathers was normal.

But this Marc was even a cripple!

Marc, with one arm linked with Susie's, held a cane in the other hand. His left leg noticeably turned outward as he walked. Moreover, he was ugly.

Marc had a sinister look, with cold eyes and a frosty smile no matter who he spoke to.

Susie actually married such a Marc?

Brandon smirked, "That's your sister, right? She's pretty; no wonder she married Marc."

Brooklyn sneered. "Oh? Marc marrying a beauty like Susie is the real luck, isn't it?"

"You're mistaken. Marc may not look great, but he's incredibly wealthy and powerful. It's said he lost his leg in an assassination attempt by the mafia." Brandon explained.

Brooklyn frowned. It seemed Marc wasn't easy to deal with.

The tiered seating surrounded the central stage, and guests continued to arrive. But Brooklyn still hadn't seen Sebastian.

Suddenly, her phone vibrated.

It was a text from Sebastian.

[Everything is under control.]

A simple sentence that reassured Brooklyn.

Soon, Brandon's phone also buzzed.

[Kevin is here.]

Brandon looked up and spotted Kevin sitting high up.

It was lively here.

Brooklyn hadn't reached her seat when Susie and Marc came up from below. The aisle wasn't wide, and Susie and Marc walking side by side took up all the space.

"Hey, can you move faster? How are people behind supposed to get up?"

That all-too-familiar voice, Susie's arrogant tone, had only worsened over the past two years.

Brooklyn turned around, standing two steps above Susie, looking down at her with a faint smile, "Sorry, I have mobility issues and can't walk fast."

Her smile was enough to captivate anyone.

Susie and Marc were both stunned!

"Who are you?" Susie looked as if a gun was pointed at her head!

Marc, beside her, was also taken aback. Brooklyn's smile was so stunning that it made all the women around her pale in comparison.

A rare beauty! How could Marc not be interested!

Brooklyn looked at her and asked, "Susie, don't you recognize me? I'm your sister."
