Chapter 414 Only I Deserve You
The King Villa was located in Golden Estates, the most upscale and affluent area of Emporcia. The residents here were the wealthiest people in Emporcia, and even Averlake. There was no need to scrutinize how much wealth the King family possesses; just looking at the area they lived in reveals the vast difference between the King family and the Taylor family.
However, Scarlett had no time to ponder the disparity between them right now.
As the Maserati arrived outside the villa, she saw the Baroque-style court lamps casting a faint, serene glow in the luxurious courtyard.
Inside the villa, a white marble-paved road wound its way inward, with interwoven tree shadows and intersecting flower branches. The villa, under the early night sky, appeared even more opulent and extravagant than during the day.
The car stopped in front of the white main building, and the first thing that caught her eye was the open villa door. The luxurious and dazzling light of the palace crystal chandelier illuminated the entire house, exuding a seductive and extravagant charm.
Kevin got out of the car first, walked around to Scarlett's side, bent down, and elegantly opened the car door for her, holding the car roof with one hand and smiling slightly, "Scarlett, we're here."
Scarlett nodded and stepped out of the car, surprised at how quickly time had passed. She hadn't even figured out how to handle tonight, and they had already arrived at The King Villa.
"Kevin, Scarlett, we've been waiting for you two."
"Of course, the important people always make a grand entrance."
"Look at this lovely couple, already making everyone envious."
Inside the villa, there were intermittent sounds of chatter and laughter. Tonight, the two of them were the central figures, naturally attracting everyone's close attention.
Scarlett took a deep breath, thinking tonight was not going to be easy.
Kevin's large hand enveloped hers, but when he touched her fingertips, he felt that Scarlett's fingers were very cold.
He couldn't help but look down at Scarlett's profile. From his angle, he could clearly see Scarlett's long, cicada-wing-like eyelashes not blinking, her breath tight, looking as if she were facing a formidable enemy.
"Scarlett, are you nervous?" He asked.ather than being nervous, Scarlett's demeanor suggested resistance—resistance towards the King family, especially towards their marriage.
Scarlett forced a smile, a bit strained, "A little."
As she spoke, she subtly withdrew her hand from Kevin's, using the motion of tucking her hair to conceal her aversion to physical contact.
Kevin glanced at his now-empty hand, his face showing no change in expression, "I'm here, no need to be nervous."
Dressed in formal attire, Kevin and Scarlett stood under the bright lights as they entered, the illumination adding an indescribable sharpness to both of them.
They drew everyone's attention.
Scarlett hadn't expected that what was supposed to be a family dinner would be so grand in scale!
The entire King family was present, including Kevin's parents, his uncle's family, his other uncle's family, Kevin's mother's sisters—altogether, there were about twenty or thirty people.
Wan't this a bit too grand?
Seeing Scarlett enter, Kevin's mother, Leah Diaz, quickly stood up and, as if Scarlett was her long-lost daughter, tightly held Scarlett's hand, "Finally, you're here! We've been eagerly waiting for you to marry in the King family!"
Leah spoke in a soft, sweet voice, with a special charm and cuteness, it was hard to believe she was over fifty.
Scarlett responded with a smile, "Mrs. King, you look so well recently, I'm really envious."
"Oh, not at all. You, my dear, are getting more and more beautiful. Kevin must hurry and marry you."
Leah's opening remarks made everyone smile, instantly livening up the atmosphere.
Speaking of the King family, each member held significant power in the business field. Not to mention the direct relatives of the King family, even the distant branches were renowned wealthy magnates.
Barry King chuckled, "Leon, we are determined to have your daughter join the King family! Just now, seeing Scarlett and Kevin come in together, they looked so well-matched!"
Leon nodded and smiled, "With a young talent like Kevin, he is naturally the best choice for my daughter. Since they are so well-suited, as her father, how could I have any objections?"
The elders exchanged compliments, making a show of it. Dozens of people sat in the villa's hall, not feeling crowded at all, though the noisy crowd made one feel uneasy.
Kevin handled such occasions with ease. Whether dealing with elders or peers, he always had way to win their approval and praise.
Every time Scarlett appeared in public with Kevin, she couldn't help but wonder how he mastered the art of social interaction. With just a few words, he managed to effortlessly win the favor of everyone, even complete strangers at first meetings.
As Scarlett watched him, her mind wandered. If it were Sebastian trapped in such a situation, what would he do? Would he be as smooth and likable, or would he stick to his own style, regardless of others' attitudes?
Perhaps he would simply walk out, doing his own thing.
Thinking about it, Scarlett almost laughed. If Sebastian walked out like that, it would definitely be impressive!
"Scarlett, what kind of wedding do you like? Whatever you want, that's what we'll do." Leah held Scarlett's hand and hadn't let go since they sat down. However, Scarlett couldn't pull away.
While she was lost in thought, the topic had already shifted to her. Scarlett almost didn't react in time, nearly causing an awkward silence.
"Mrs. King, isn't it too rushed to have the wedding at the end of the month? There are still many things that haven't been prepared." Scarlett replied.
"Don't worry about that! As long as you're ready, we'll take care of everything else. You just need to relax and get ready to be a bride. We'll handle the rest, okay?"
"Mrs. King, how can we, the younger generation, let the elders do all the hard work? It's better to give it more time."
"What are you talking about? A wedding is such a joyous occasion. I'm happy to help, and so are your parents."
Diana nodded, "Scarlett is my precious daughter. I can't bear her toleave me. But since Scarlett is going to marry a man like Kevin, I feel at ease."
The discussion drowned out Scarlett's own thoughts. She had no autonomy left.
A sudden wave of dizziness hit her. Scarlett pressed her fingers against her forehead, feeling as if her brain was being crushed by a wheel.
She gripped the leather sofa, nearly fainting in the crowded hall.
Scarlett's face turned pale. She took a deep breath and said softly, "Mrs. King, I need to use the restroom."
Holding onto the back of the sofa, Scarlett almost fled the noisy living room, closing the bathroom door heavily behind her.
She leaned on the porcelain sink, her face as pale as if she had just recovered from a severe illness. The pounding headache felt like a storm crashing against her fragile nerves, with black waves rolling endlessly.
How could this be happening?
After several minutes, the pain finally subsided. Scarlett's face was as pale as paper, devoid of any color.
She washed her hands under the faucet, the cold water running over her hands, chilling her to the core.
She splashed some water on her face, wiping off most of her already light foundation. She decided to wash it all off, leaving her skin clean and fresh, looking even more delicate.
She took out a lipstick from her bag, adding some color to her face.
After freshening up, Scarlett's phone vibrated in her purse.
A text from Sebastian lay on the screen, simple yet igniting like a fire in the winter.
[I miss you.]
No preamble, just his straightforward and bold words.
Scarlett leaned against the sink, staring at the message, her emotions in turmoil.
[Did you send this to the wrong person?]
Sebastian sat in his office, holding a warm cup of coffee, savoring its faint bitterness, which turned increasingly sweet and rich after the initial taste.
With the aroma of coffee, he smiled: [Scarlett, I miss you.]
Hiding in the bathroom, Scarlett tilted her head. The depression that had almost made her ill was suddenly lifted by Sebastian's message, making her laugh.
Maybe his timely message was like a breeze that cleared her mind. Scarlett felt a sense of unprecedented relief.
[Sebastian, I'm about to become a married woman, understand?]
Of course, he understood.
Sebastian was well aware of the lively atmosphere at The King Villa tonight.
However, he replied: [So what?]
Scarlett chuckled: [Clearly, you're trying to seduce a married woman.]
A message popped up on Sebastian's computer from Brandon: [The King Villa is quite lively tonight, a pre-wedding gathering. But Scarlett doesn't seem very enthusiastic.]
Sebastian smirked and replied to Scarlett: [It seems my seduction is quite effective. Scarlett, there's only one man in this world who is a perfect match for you, and that's me. I'll wait for you.]
Scarlett stared at her phone, suddenly at a loss for words.
"Scarlett, are you okay?" The urgent knocking on the door interrupted Scarlett's thoughts. She quickly hid her phone in her bag and took a few deep breaths, "I'm fine."
"Are you feeling unwell?"
"No."
She walked out of the bathroom, and Kevin was patiently waiting. Seeing her come out, he finally felt relieved.
"You don't look well. Are you sure you're okay? If you're tired, I can take you home first. They're too excited and probably won't stop anytime soon." Kevin frowned apologetically, "I didn't expect there are so many people. You don't like noise, and that's my oversight."
His gentle concern was always so thorough. Was it real or fake?
"No need." Scarlett shook her head.
"I'll try to wrap things up quickly. As for the wedding, we can discuss it privately, okay?"
"I..."
"Diana! Diana!"
The urgent call from the living room suddenly broke the noise. It was Leon's voice.
Scarlett let go of Kevin's hand and rushed to the living room. She saw Diana slumped in her wheelchair, her eyes rolled back, staring blankly at the ceiling, her body convulsing violently, with foam at the corners of her mouth.
Scarlett dropped to one knee, lifting Diana's eyelids to check, her heart gripped with fear. She screamed, "Call an ambulance! Quickly!"
"Mom! Wake up!"
