Chapter 269 Diagnosed with an Incurable Disease
Why did he do this?
Besides the unavoidable considerations, he was also grappling with how to deal with this little porcupine. Brooklyn always seemed to be telling him, "We're done," and he was tired of hearing her divorce proposals.
So he decided to block her path completely.
Brooklyn was a whirlwind of confusion and agony. His words had struck her heart, leaving her immobile. "Sebastian."
"Tell me," he demanded, his voice blazing with an intense, commanding tone that left no room for alternative answers, "are you leaving me?"
It wasn't a harsh command but a bone-deep affection.
For over three years, her heart had remained untouched by the rains of spring, but tonight it was overwhelmed by a torrential downpour. Perhaps the night was too beautiful, perhaps her soul was too thirsty, or perhaps she felt this was her last chance to be recklessly audacious before the end.
She replied, "Unless I'm dead, I won't leave."
She spoke with unwavering certainty. Because that day wouldn't come too soon.
It was worth it!
Tonight's reckless gamble, tonight's decisive move, it was worth it!
Sebastian held Brooklyn close, as if embracing the whole world. With his business empire, he had bought a world that truly belonged to him.
Piper couldn't even muster anger. She thought, 'Sebastian is like a devil, a Satan! How dare he? How dare he?'
Brandon downed his glass of red wine in one gulp. Last night, when he heard Sebastian casually mention that he was planning something at Lawrence's birthday party, he had thought Sebastian was drunk. The plan was to gain a world but risk losing one. If he failed, he'd lose both.
When Brandon heard such provocative statements, Brandon's first thought was that Sebastian must be drunk!
So he took a late-night flight back to Kasfee. Tonight's actions by Sebastian surprised him, impressed him, and earned his full admiration!
Sebastian had finally done something truly brave.
But what about the aftermath? That was something to look forward to!
Brandon clapped his hands and shouted, "Give her a kiss! A kiss!" Brandon's loud cheer brought the stunned guests back to reality. Kelly stared at Brooklyn with a dazed look.
Kelly swallowed hard, thinking, 'What has just happened? Why has the atmosphere changed so suddenly? Why is Brooklyn cuddled up in Sebastian's arms? What is going on?'
Quinn strolled over, casually draping an arm around the petite Kelly's shoulders, and smirked. "Hey, Kelly, isn't my brother better-looking than Zach?"
Kelly shot him a glare. "Shut up! Brooklyn's been totally messed up by your brother!"
Quinn shrugged nonchalantly, still grinning. "Oh, come on, give her a kiss!"
Sebastian raised an eyebrow, a sly smirk playing on his lips. "How about we just give them what they want?"
Brooklyn shot him a sharp look. "No!"
Sebastian nodded thoughtfully. "True enough. Some things are better left for private moments at home. But tonight, with all eyes on us, we need to do some damage control."
He pulled Brooklyn closer, his hand firm around her waist. Facing the crowd and the reporters, he made a statement that nearly made Brooklyn want to vomit.
"As you all can see." Sebastian's voice was clear and authoritative. "I made a mistake after we got married that hurt my wife. I am here to take full responsibility. When people have asked about my relationship with Ms. Turner, today I'll set the record straight."
Brooklyn turned her head away from the cameras, but Sebastian's commanding presence remained undiminished. Despite the catastrophic nature of his statement, he maintained an air of unshakable calm.
It was astonishing how composed he was.
The reporters' eyes widened, and the guests held their breath.
Sebastian continued with a mix of gravitas and nonchalance. "Ms. Turner was once a benefactor who saved me. But this woman beside me is my one and only love."
"So your actions toward Ms. Turner were all because of her past kindness to you, not because you love her?"
"How do you explain your child with Ms. Turner?"
"Are you really planning to abandon Ms. Turner and her unborn child?"
The reporters were relentless, their questions sharp and probing.
Any single question had the potential to ruin lives.
Brooklyn tightened her grip on Sebastian's hand.
She thought, 'He has already endured enough for me today; he shouldn't have to bear anymore. Now, it is my turn to do something for him.'
She clasped Sebastian's hand with her own, her eyes shimmering with tears that sparkled with happiness. Her gaze was full of love and melancholy.
Stepping forward to face the cameras, she said, "Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to clarify what's happened today. My husband is not someone who betrays or irresponsibly deceives anyone. He used this opportunity to give me a surprise because…"
She glanced at him, her look silencing any further words from him. "Because I've been diagnosed with a terminal illness and don't have long to live. He didn't want me to die with any regrets. As for Ms. Turner and her child, they will become part of the Kingsley family after I'm gone."
Sebastian thought, 'What is she saying?!'
