Chapter 196 Thighs as Chairs, How Does It Feel?
At Return Manor, Zach and Brooklyn were still having a conversation.
"Working with someone makes the job less tiring. Dr. Carter, you caught so many fish today, we can't eat them all!" Zach said with a clear voice and a smile.
"For the ones we can't finish, we can release them back. Let them enjoy surviving the disaster, right?" he added.
"What kind of logic is that? If you wanted them free, you shouldn't have caught them in the first place," Brooklyn replied, looking at the fish in the bucket and admitting Zach was really good at fishing.
'Fishing? Skilled? Why did I suddenly think of the mermaid joke?' she thought.
Zach smiled again, "Being comfortable for too long makes you lose the sense of happiness. Without hardships, happiness can seem trivial. We need reminders sometimes."
His words made sense, leaving her speechless, but she sensed a deeper meaning.
'If living in happiness for too long can make us take it for granted, can living in unhappiness for too long make us used to it?' she wondered, feeling a bit irritated and targeted.
Seeing them chat so well, Kelly smirked. "Oh, you all seem to be having a great time. Maybe I should leave you two alone?"
Brooklyn grabbed her wrist and whispered, "Aren't you being a bit too much of a matchmaker?"
Kelly shamelessly smiled, "You seem to enjoy it. Don't complain it if you have taken advantages!"
'Gosh, she got me,' Brooklyn thought.
Honestly, being with Zach made Brooklyn feel very comfortable. He was gentle. They never quarreled, and he was great at diffusing awkward situations. He was the perfect boyfriend.
"But, I'm currently..." Brooklyn said.
"What do you mean ' but'? Good men aren't easy to find, and he's exceptional! Forget about Sebastian, the big shark, and accept your dolphin!" Kelly said.
The metaphor was vivid. Sebastian was a cold-blooded shark, while Zach was a gentle dolphin.
"Thirsty? Have some water." Zach went over and handed her a bottle of mineral water.
"How do you plan to cook these fish? Fry, grill, or boil them? How should we prepare them considering their size?" he asked.
Suddenly, Brooklyn sprayed water out of her mouth!
Kelly and Zach both looked at her. "What's wrong with you?"
Choking on the water, she coughed and held her chest. "It's nothing."
The mention of eating fish reminded her of eating with Sebastian, and she could only see his charming face in her mind.
Zach patted her back. "You should drink from a cup. It's easier to choke when drinking directly from the bottle."
"I'm fine."
Kelly looked at them both. 'They were the perfect match!' she thought.
"You two keep on. I'll take the fish to the kitchen."
'Kelly, the matchmaker, was really on a roll.'
Zach was pleased and promised to repay her generously once everything was settled.
Brooklyn rubbed her temples. 'Kelly's schemes are getting addictive. I'll deal with her later!'
"Are you tired from fishing? Sit down and rest for a bit."
"Okay."
Inside the pavilion, there were two facing sofas with a small wooden table in between, adorned with fruits and a chessboard. Lush green plants surrounded the area, with red and yellow flowers interspersed. When the wind blew, the white curtains swayed lightly, carrying a faint floral scent mixed with the dampness of the nearby lake.
The view was so relaxing it eased her heart.
"Do you like it here?" Zach asked, crossing his legs, his handsome face sporting a gentle smile.
Brooklyn was afraid she'd get lost in his gentle demeanor.
"It's beautiful here. I don't think anyone would dislike it. There's no reason to, right?"
'The scenery is beautiful, and so is he. I couldn't find a reason to dislike him, so I guess I have to like it.'
"As long as you like it. I think you probably wouldn't enjoy the atmosphere at bars like last time. This place suits you better. It's not far from the city center, so you can come here anytime."
'Anytime?' Brooklyn thought.
"Isn't that inappropriate? This place looks like a private estate, not open to the public every day."
Indeed, it was a private estate, and she was smart enough to see that. But the owner...
Sebastian smiled faintly, "It's true it's not open to the public every day, but for you, it's open anytime. I know the owner, so don't worry. Treat it as your own place."
His gentleness was overwhelming, and Brooklyn couldn't resist.
"Forget it," she sighed.
He wanted to say more, but Brooklyn's phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, her heart skipped a beat. She pressed her lips and answered.
"Where are you?" Sebastian asked.
A black Rolls-Royce was parked inside the gates of Return Manor, and the security personnel couldn't stop it.
Brooklyn didn't know if she should tell the truth.
"Tell me, where are you?" Sebastian was angry.
"Kelly and I are at a manor."
'That's the truth, right?'
At that moment, Zach's phone also rang. He saw the number and walked outside the pavilion.
"What's going on?"
"Mr. Carter, someone forced their way into the estate. We didn't dare stop him, and now he's inside."
"Who?"
"It's the CEO of MBK Group, Mr. Kingsley."
