Chapter 368 Can't Drink Alcohol
Royal Duke Private Club, a swanky spot owned by Infinite International Group, was all about that glitzy exterior and neon lights, screaming money.
The car rolled to a stop, and Scarlett took a look around. Lincolns, Bentleys, Ferraris, Aston Martins – the parking lot was packed with them.
Sebastian's black Rolls-Royce might not have been the flashiest ride there, but the moment it pulled in, heads turned. A valet hustled over, opened Sebastian's door, and bowed, "Good evening, Mr. Kingsley."
Sebastian gave a lazy nod, clearly unimpressed, and waved him off.
Scarlett slipped on her shoes and glanced at him. Sebastian leaned in, eyes full of disdain, "A scumbag? Tonight, I'll show you what a real scumbag is."
"You're rich, do whatever you want," she shrugged.
"Mr. Kingsley, please come in!" A middle-aged man greeted him warmly.
"Mr. Kingsley, long time no see, looking even more handsome!" A woman chimed in.
"The growth and scale of MBK Group are just incredible!" A young guy added.
But, what was the MBK Group?
Scarlett soon found out.
Sebastian was the CEO of MBK Group, the young master of the Kingsley family, one of the top four families Kelly had mentioned. In Aucester's business world, his every move could shake the stock market.
She thought knowing his identity would give her an edge, but why did he have to be Sebastian? Scarlett narrowed her eyes, realizing he wouldn't be easy to handle.
She followed Sebastian into the buzzing banquet hall. Rows of sparkling crystal chandeliers lit up the gold-themed interior, making it look like a palace. The hall, at least 5,500 square feet, was packed with large round tables, all decked out with golden chair covers, tassels brushing the floor, and gold-trimmed details. At the front stood a tall champagne tower, the flowing champagne creating a dreamy vibe.
The guests were all decked out in luxury, women dripping in jewels, men in sharp suits, champagne glasses in hand, and high heels silent on the plush carpet.
James's banquet was going to be something else.
A valet took Scarlett's coat. She wore a simple black knee-length dress, sleek and without any frills. Her dress looked like something for a funeral.
Sebastian noticed but didn't show any reaction. He knew she did it on purpose.
Scarlett smiled genuinely, her eyes saying, "Yep, I did it on purpose! This is what I think of your idea of dressing up."
Alright then, Sebastian thought, this night might actually be interesting.
"Mr. Kingsley, finally, you're here! Long time no see!" A man with a commanding presence strode forward from a group of people, his steps brisk. He extended a hand from afar, his smile almost reaching his eyes.
This was James, the host of tonight's shindig.
Sebastian wasn't exactly thrilled, giving him a quick handshake. James, though, had his eyes on Scarlett in her black dress behind Sebastian, his smile a bit too knowing, "Miss, we meet again."
Sebastian's tall, handsome frame blocked his view, "What?"
"This lady..." James started to explain.
Scarlett cut him off, "Mr. Rivera, maybe you should watch your words at an event like this."
She wanted to keep things low-key in Aucester and didn't want her name getting around. If Sebastian found out certain things, it could spell trouble for her.
James wasn't dumb. Scarlett's interruption made him switch gears, his gaze shifting to Sebastian. With the politeness of the young heir of the Rivera family, he gestured, "Mr. Kingsley, this way, please."
Sebastian's sharp eyes flicked to Scarlett behind him, then he strode into the center of the hall, all eyes on him.
Scarlett frowned, a mix of annoyance and worry on her face. If Sebastian was involved, rescuing Lisa might be a long shot.
Thinking of this, Scarlett followed Sebastian, but kept a bit of distance, staying within his sight but not too close.
She knew that among the hundreds of people here, both men and women, all eyes were on Sebastian. Wherever he went, people craned their necks to catch his attention.
Sebastian and James walked to the center of the banquet hall, right under a fancy crystal chandelier. The dazzling light sparkled like fireworks on the ceiling, casting a dreamy glow. The bright light highlighted Sebastian's chiseled features, making him even more striking and charismatic.
Countless wealthy young ladies eagerly approached, wine glasses in hand, necklines lowered, walking gracefully around Sebastian, flaunting their charms.
Some of the middle-aged ladies started gossiping.
"Mr. Kingsley is such a catch, women just flock to him."
"It's not just flocking, they want to devour him. See that one in red? That's Lily, she's been making waves in the entertainment industry. Ever since Megan retired to be Sebastian's girlfriend, Lily's career has taken off. Now she even dares to approach Mr. Kingsley."
"Who wouldn't want a man like Mr. Kingsley? I'd go too, but I'm past my prime. These women are all in their early twenties, banking on their youth."
Scarlett overheard their chatter, swirling the red wine in her glass, a contemptuous smile playing on her lips. Women flocking to him? If he were a gentleman who turned down unwanted advances, no one would try their luck with him.
In the end, Sebastian was still a jerk who attracted his own kind.
As she brought the wine to her lips, Scarlett suddenly remembered she had to drive tonight. Frustrated, she couldn't drink and could only swirl the wine in her hand for show.
