Chapter 237 Susie Is Pregnant?
Quinn heard Jennifer's angry voice in the side hall and figured Sebastian was giving her a hard time. He felt relieved that Sebastian was finally looking out for Brooklyn.
"As long as Brooklyn's okay, I'm good. Jennifer can do whatever she wants."
Quinn grabbed his car keys, twirling them in his hand, and headed to school in a good mood.
Quinn wasn't thrilled about classes. He found them boring, especially in the U.S. He often skipped mandatory ones and didn't even bother with electives.
But today, he felt good and decided to take a stroll around campus.
Brooklyn had her blood drawn and went through a bunch of tests. By the time she was done, it was noon, and she was starving since she hadn't eaten before.
"Dr. Mitchell, we just had blood drawn. We need some good food for lunch. Let's eat out!" Ellie said, looking pained. "We drew so much blood; it'll take several steaks to replenish it. My wallet hurts!"
Brooklyn smiled. "Maybe I have a high pain threshold. The blood draw didn't bother me. What do you want to eat? It's on me."
Sienna laughed, "So generous? Anything we want?"
Brooklyn nodded, "Anything."
Ellie and Sienna exchanged glances. "Anything?"
Brooklyn nodded again, "Yes, anything. Distance doesn't matter; I'll drive."
"I love having rich friends! How about Tokey Japanese Restaurant? I've heard it's amazing but super pricey."
"No problem, let's go to Tokey Japanese Restaurant."
Ellie was thrilled. "Awesome! Dr. Mitchell, I love you!"
Tokey Japanese Restaurant was a fifteen-minute drive from the hospital.
Sienna and Ellie spent the entire ride in the Maybach, marveling at their surroundings.
The world of the wealthy seemed so distant that they felt like their necks were permanently craned in awe.
At the restaurant, they chose a window seat. High-end places were always quiet and never crowded.
"Order whatever you want," Brooklyn said, handing them the menu.
Their eyes widened. "This sushi is thirty bucks for a few pieces! That's crazy!"
"This sashimi is even worse, ten ounces for sixty bucks. We'd need a month's salary to get full here."
Brooklyn sat across from them, calm and composed. "It's okay, order whatever you like. If it's not enough, get more. Don't let the prices stress you out."
Ellie and Sienna looked at Brooklyn with admiration, like she was the First Lady. "You're really something, Dr. Mitchell."
Brooklyn smiled. "Take your time choosing; I'm going to the restroom."
As Brooklyn entered the restroom and closed the stall door, she overheard a conversation outside.
"Susie actually made an appointment with an OB-GYN. She's gone too far this time, right?"
'What happened to Susie?' Brooklyn thought, listening closely.
"You didn't know? It's all over the place. Susie had sex with someone and seems to be pregnant. She wants to secretly have an abortion."
'What?! Susie is pregnant and wants an abortion?'
"Seriously? She's always so arrogant, and now she's the one getting played? Her sister's the queen of the Kingsley family; who would dare mess with her?"
"Her sister? Don't get your hopes up about those high-society marriages. One day you're on top of the world, and the next, you're crashing down."
"True! Brooklyn doesn't seem like someone who can survive long in high society."
"Exactly! In a TV show, she'd last two episodes. Let's just watch the drama."
As the two women left the restroom, Brooklyn was left alone, her mind racing and her heart unsettled.
She pressed her hands on the sink, her face pale with anger.
She thought, 'Susie gets an abortion? I can't stand firm in the Kingsley family?
'The insults I heard are harsh. What would the outside world say about us?'
Unable to contain her anger, Brooklyn dialed Susie's number.
The phone rang for a long time before Susie answered.
"Don't call me if it's not important!" Susie sounded irritable.
Brooklyn gripped the sink. "What's going on with you? Whose child is it?"
Susie panicked, stammering, "What child? I don't know what you're talking about!"
"Stop lying! Are you really getting an abortion?"
Susie, sitting outside the gynecology clinic, clenched her fists nervously. "Nonsense! I would never do such a thing!"
Brooklyn wanted to strangle her.
"Listen, you're a senior executive at Mitchell Group. Your reputation affects the whole company. Don't make trouble for me!"
"Have you said enough? If so, I'm hanging up! Ridiculous!"
Susie hastily hung up, clutching her chest and breathing heavily. 'How did she know? I hadn't told anyone! No, Brooklyn was just guessing. It's fine, everything will be fine!'
"Susie, it's your turn."
A doctor in a white coat approached, and Susie was so scared she dropped her phone. "Okay."
"Are you sure you don't want it? The baby is developing well."
"Yes, I'm sure! Stop talking! Hurry up!"
