Chapter 213 Let's Die Together
The Maybach's performance was on another level. After some practice, Brooklyn got the hang of it. The automatic transmission made it feel super luxurious.
Even with the great car, she was still a few minutes late.
She finished checking the rooms and went back to her office. An intern hurried over, her high heels clicking on the floor.
The intern handed Brooklyn a test report. "Good morning, this is the test report for a patient who came in early. Please take a look."
'A patient this early?'
She didn't remember any early tests. "How are the results?"
Clearly new to this, the intern whispered, "The urine test showed a lot of red blood cells, but only two or three white blood cells under the microscope."
Brooklyn listened as she walked quickly. 'Urine test? Blood test? This isn't a cardiology case; the intern must be confused.'
However, she didn't stop her and asked, "What else?"
The intern continued, "The thrombosis index and motility are normal, but the patient is losing weight fast and has hematuria. He said he doesn't feel any pain."
Brooklyn stopped and looked at the sweating intern. She glanced at the name tag, 'Oncology Department'. "Anna, right? Doctors aren't just data-reporting machines. What do you think these results mean?"
Anna stammered, "It could be cancer."
Brooklyn nodded, urging her to go on.
"Malignant kidney tumor, bladder cancer, prostate cancer; those are all possibilities."
Brooklyn nodded again. "Correct, the patient likely has cancer. Now, go find their attending physician and explain the situation."
Anna was stunned. "Aren't you the attending physician?"
Brooklyn showed her name badge. "What do you think?"
"I'm sorry, I mistook you for someone else. Another doctor said it was a young and beautiful female doctor, so I thought it was you."
The intern fled in a panic, making Brooklyn frown and smile.
"A young, beautiful female doctor; that's your new trademark."
Zach appeared out of nowhere, having seen the whole thing while smiling.
"Dr. Carter? What are you doing here?"
"Here for a meeting in Internal Medicine. I didn't know Dr. Mitchell had oncology skills too?"
Zach was impressed by how calm Dr. Mitchell was with the intern.
"I only know a bit." Brooklyn was ready to escape again.
She wasn't afraid of tough cases, but dealing with people was another story.
"Dr. Carter, the meeting room is this way!"
The head of Internal Medicine waved, and Zach hurried to catch up.
Brooklyn watched him leave, her vision blurring for a moment. All she could think of was Sebastian, and she almost mistook Zach for him again.
Back in the duty room, Sienna grinned mischievously at Brooklyn. "Dr. Mitchell, the review team is coming tomorrow. You and Dr. Carter will be presenting together again."
"What?" Brooklyn said, opening her computer to check patient records.
"The application for university hospital status! You and Dr. Carter are inspecting the equipment, remember?"
She had indeed forgotten; there was so much happening lately.
John sat silently, gripping his pen so tightly it was about to snap.
Ellie teased with a smile, "Dr. Mitchell, when's Dr. Carter going to propose? We're all waiting to see you two as a power couple!"
"Dr. Carter and I are just colleagues, nothing more. Don't start rumors."
"Who's starting rumors? Someone saw you driving a Maybach to work. If he didn't give it to you, then who did? You've reached the stage of giving cars; marriage must be next!"
John's pen snapped..
Brooklyn frowned. "The car wasn't from him."
"Then, who gave it to you? A Maybach from the Executive Series; a million-dollar car. Don't tell me you bought it yourself!"
She replied, "Borrowed from a friend."
"Don't cover it up! The more you hide, the more obvious it is. Dr. Mitchell is about to become a multi-millionaire, and we feel so ashamed!"
Ignoring their comments, she continued working.
She noticed she was on call tonight.
After a simple dinner post-shift, her phone rang. It was John.
"Dr. Mitchell, can you come to the rooftop? I need to ask you something.."
Brooklyn didn't think much of it. "Okay."
She went straight to the rooftop, where John stood by the railing, facing outward.
It was early summer, around 6 in the evening. The sky was still light, with the sunset hanging over. The wind was strong and a bit chilly.
"Dr. Davis, what do you want to ask me?"
John turned around, seeing Brooklyn in her white coat bathed in the light. She looked so beautiful, like a distant fairy.
"Dr. Mitchell!"
He suddenly ran over and hugged her tightly.
"Dr. Davis! What are you doing? Let go!"
Her heart skipped a beat in fear, her face turning red as she struggled.
However, he held her tightly, breathing heavily as he spoke in broken sentences. "Dr. Mitchell, I like you, I really like you!"
'What?!'
Her eyes widened. "Dr. Davis, calm down. Can you let go first?"
"No, I won't! I've liked you for three years, since the first day you worked here. However, you're too amazing. I've been trying to catch up to you, but you keep moving further away and climbing higher. I could only secretly like you!"
"Now, I can't accept that you're getting with Dr. Carter!"
Brooklyn's mind went blank. 'What is happening?!'
"Dr. Davis, this is the rooftop, be careful!"
"I've thought it through. I'll never have a chance to be with you again, so let's just die together! Jump down, and we'll be together forever!"
