Chapter 295 Overwhelmed to Conquer
"Sebastian! You just crawled outta another chick's bed. Don't even think about touching me!" Brooklyn spat, her voice dripping with disgust.
Sebastian's face tightened, his heart aching but he wasn't about to show any weakness. Dealing with Brooklyn sometimes meant playing hardball. "Fine, then the couch it is."
He wrapped his strong arms around her, pinning her hands behind her back, and pressed half his body against hers, completely overpowering her.
"Sebastian, you jerk!" Brooklyn snarled.
Sebastian just nodded. "Yep, I'm a jerk."
Brooklyn's eyes narrowed. "You're a demon!"
"Sure, I'm a demon."
"You're shameless! Heartless! Overbearing and unreasonable!"
"Alright, alright, I'm all those things. Got more? Bring it on, I can take them all."
Even with Brooklyn's fury blazing, he kept his cool, responding like it was no big deal.
Brooklyn's anger only grew hotter. "Sebastian, why are you even here? Let go of me!"
Sebastian looked troubled, leaning in closer, his deep eyes locking onto hers under the dim light. Brooklyn's eyes were still red and puffy. He said softly, "If I don't come to you, my wife will be gone. How can I not come?"
Brooklyn struggled to break free, but his grip was too strong. "Get off!"
Sebastian's lips hovered dangerously close to hers as he said, "I'll give you ten seconds. Either listen to me quietly or keep struggling, and we'll stay like this."
Brooklyn stopped moving and shouted, "Spit out whatever crap you have to say, quick!"
Sebastian nodded, pleased with her cooperation. "First off, at the fire scene, I saved her instead of you because..."
He paused, realizing it was an instinctive move, not out of love.
"Megan saved my life years ago. I owed her one. Now, I don't owe her anything," he added.
Brooklyn's eyes narrowed, then widened as she asked, "Saved you?"
Sebastian nodded, being straight with her, "Yeah, you don't need the details. Just remember I didn't save her out of love."
Brooklyn let out a bitter laugh, "You saved her to settle a debt, but didn't you think I might die in that fire?"
In that split second, they were both dying.
Thinking back now, Brooklyn found it truly terrifying.
Sebastian's eyes were filled with unwavering affection as he said, "You wouldn't die."
Sebastian had seen Zach go in and get close to Brooklyn.
Brooklyn still sneered, "What if? Who can guarantee that? Can you? You can't."
Sebastian shifted his position, still pressing against her, his chiseled face showcasing his extraordinary looks as he said, "If there was an accident, I would die with you. If you died, I wouldn't live alone."
Brooklyn's hostility suddenly vanished. She looked at him, shock and confusion written all over her face, her throat dry like she'd swallowed smoke.
Holding back her grief, she turned her face away and muttered, "I won't believe words said after the fact."
Sebastian didn't rush to clear things up. "If you don't believe me, I can prove it to you now. Brooklyn, you're my only wife. I ain't giving up on you, not in this lifetime. I got some stuff to sort out, but once I do, I'll give you everything you deserve."
Brooklyn huffed, "There's no need, Sebastian. If you cared about me, you wouldn't have left me alone in the hospital. Now, coming back with all these explanations, it's pointless."
She thought, 'I don't want him to die with me. I don't have much time left. What if Sebastian really go nuclear?'
Her heart was broken, and she couldn't hold on much longer.
Sebastian's eyes finally softened, becoming gentle. "What do you want? Besides divorce, what do you want me to do? I'll do anything."
Brooklyn moved closer, the light casting shadows across his face, making his features even more defined.
She almost fell for him again.
Brooklyn smiled, half her face in the shadow, her smile even brighter. "I want you to marry Megan. Can you do that?"
"Are you nuts? You want me to marry her?" He asked in shock, feeling the urge to shake some sense into Brooklyn.
"I don't want to live like this anymore, and I don't want to be caught between you two. Whether you love her or not, she's the woman you should marry." Brooklyn said.
Sebastian was furious, his long fingers gripping Brooklyn's neck, his thumb pressing against her throat. "I am your husband!"
"Husband? The shame I've endured these past three years is all thanks to you. Giving me hope, then letting me down. Are you playing with me?" Brooklyn said.
"Nonsense! I won't let you get hurt again."
Brooklyn laughed through her tears. "Yachts, dinners, gifts. You think that's what marriage is? Your compensation? Sorry, Sebastian, that's not what I want."
'The virus in my body has worsened. When it flares up, I will die a horrible death. Sebastian, I don't want you to see me like that. Please, let me go! Let me die in peace!' Brooklyn pleaded inwardly.
"Tell me what you want?" His eyes were full of deep affection.
"Leave. I don't want to see you."
Sebastian didn't let go. Instead, he laughed helplessly. "This is my house now. I'm not leaving."
