Chapter 194 Successful Sleepover
Brooklyn stared into Sebastian's deep, tired eyes. It was clear he hated dealing with this stuff, or maybe he just didn't want to choose between two people.
If she left, he'd probably follow just to dodge the drama.
Sebastian looked down at her. "I'll handle this. It's not the time for you to rush into a decision."
"Then when is the right time? When Megan has your baby? When you two get married with your baby in tow? Is that it?"
Brooklyn pictured Sebastian and Megan walking down the aisle, exchanging rings, and holding their child. The thought made her heart ache so much she could hardly breathe.
Sebastian frowned. "No, just don't rush. I'll take care of it."
He was acting weird today, almost like he was negotiating with her, which made Brooklyn even more anxious. 'What did he mean by that?'
Sebastian worried Brooklyn might get the wrong idea and miss out on him.
"Sebastian, Megan's pregnant with your kid, and Jennifer already sees her as your wife. Plus, Megan means something to you. You should marry her. Your kid needs a father, and she needs you too."
Brooklyn feared wasting her youth on Sebastian, whether it was three years or thirty.
"So, for all our sakes, why not have a peaceful divorce?"
She spoke calmly but firmly, laying out the facts.
"Forget it. I'm not divorcing you!"
Sebastian snapped, but Brooklyn was already heading for the door before he could get mad and strangle her.
"Come back! You're not going to the hospital today!"
'Fine, I won't go,' Brooklyn thought.
After breakfast, Sebastian got a call and left.
As soon as he was gone, the house felt different.
Brooklyn sat on the big circular sofa in the living room, reading a medical book. Megan sauntered over, holding a fashion magazine.
"Your skills aren't up to par, so why bother studying at home? You might as well quit being a doctor. After the divorce, you'll get plenty of alimony to live on. Why risk lives at the hospital?" Megan said. She crossed her legs, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
Brooklyn didn't even look up. "Megan, until you're officially part of the Kingsley family, you better watch yourself. You might overstep, and Sebastian could kick you out."
"Heh, thanks for the advice! But last night, Sebastian told me to make myself at home here. What do you think he meant by 'at home'?"
Ignoring Megan's flaunting, Brooklyn said, "Probably reminding you not to wear so much makeup at home!"
"You're jealous, aren't you? Even without makeup, I'm prettier than you!" Megan growled.
Brooklyn glanced at her languidly. "Of course, you are born with aseductive face. How could I even compete with that?"
Megan knew she couldn't out-talk Brooklyn, so she flipped through her magazine, landing on a page featuring a celebrity flaunting the latest luxury item.
"Brooklyn, do you like this necklace? It's the J&K anniversary edition, priceless, only ten sets worldwide. Sebastian's already ordered it. When do you think he'll give it to me?"
Brooklyn caught a glimpse of the jewelry—a masterpiece, expensive, with a price tag boasting several zeros. She was used to Sebastian being generous with gifts for Megan, but the bitterness in her heart was hard to shake off.
"Congrats, looks like last night's performance paid off!" Brooklyn sneered.
"Don't bother trying anymore, Brooklyn. I've already got Jennifer's approval and Sebastian's love. You'll be kicked out of the Kingsley family sooner or later!" Megan burst out laughing as she spoke.
Brooklyn felt a surge of anger. She was planning to leave the Kingsley family, but hearing it from Megan made it sting even more. Even if she was going to leave, she wouldn't leave as a discarded woman.
Just then, Brooklyn's phone rang.
"Brooklyn, you’re not spending the whole weekend at home, are you? Come out. I have a plan, a fun one. I promise you'll like it!"
"Your party? No way, last time almost..." Glancing at Megan, Brooklyn didn't continue. "What's the plan this time?"
"Don't ask questions. Just dress simply and elegantlywell, and bring a change of underwear. We're staying overnight."
"Where is it?"
"I'll send you the address! Hurry up!"
After hanging up, Brooklyn got up to change.
"Where are you going?"
Brooklyn smirked. "You, a pregnant woman, want to join? Sorry, you're not invited."
She changed into simple early summer pants and a casual shirt, packing a change of clothes. 'It's great not coming back tonight!'
Savannah saw her out. "Ms. Mitchell, you seem in a good mood. Off to somewhere fun?"
Brooklyn replied casually, "Return Manor, a themed leisure center. I won't be back tonight."
Soon, she arrived at the manor.
"You are quick! This outfit is nice, very fresh. Let's go!"
Kelly grabbed Brooklyn's hand, leading her inside. The manor was designed like a Southern garden, with winding paths, lush greenery, trickling water, and birds chirping.
"You really know how to pick a place."
"I didn't choose this place!"
"Not you? Then who?"
They walked past a flower path and woods, arriving at a new open area. Zach was sitting under the shade of a tree, back facing them, holding a fishing rod.
"He did!"
"Him?"
Brooklyn looked closely at Zach's back. He was wearing a light gray T-shirt, sitting upright. He looked somewhat familiar, but it couldn't be, right?
"Got one!"
Zach suddenly lifted the fishing rod, a red fish hanging from the hook, struggling and jumping.
'It really is him!' Brooklyn gasped.
"Dr. Carter, what are you doing here?"
