Chapter 236 Wait for Me
In the MBK Group Building, CEO's Office.
Dario walked in with an international package, looking grim as he placed it on Sebastian's desk. "Mr. Kingsley, we've got a problem."
Dario, having worked with Sebastian for years, knew he hated panic, no matter the issue.
Sebastian wasn't happy with Dario's reaction. He glanced at the package and asked calmly, "What's the problem? Why the rush?"
Dario took a moment to steady himself. "There's trouble with the Pugetland project. It's been shut down by the authorities without explanation. Things are bad. You might need to handle this personally."
Sebastian frowned. "You mean the SKY Royal Club project?"
Dario nodded. "Yes, it's MBK Group's biggest investment in Averlake. It's under suspicion for multiple violations and has been sealed off. Workers are causing trouble, the project manager is missing, and the situation is escalating."
Sebastian opened the package to find a court summons from Pugetland authorities.
Sebastian thought, 'What a joke! A court summons?'
He threw the summons on the table, furious. "Tell Linda to get me the next flight out. I need to go now."
"The ticket's already booked. Departure at 11."
Sebastian checked his watch. It was 10:10.
"Alright, let's head to the airport."
Grabbing his passport and coat, Sebastian called Brooklyn as he walked out.
Brooklyn was in line for a blood draw when her phone rang.
'It's Sebastian!'
Her first thought was, 'Did Jennifer contact him before the deadline?'
Nervously, she answered in a low voice, "Hello."
Sebastian, walking quickly, sounded urgent. "I need to run a quick errand to Averlake. Make sure everything's okay at home. No matter what happens, stay put and don't leave until I'm back. Remember, no matter what, don't leave."
Brooklyn, still in line, nodded. "Alright. And you take care of yourself over there too."
Sebastian got into the car, tossing his briefcase onto the backseat. "Promise me, don't let anyone mistreat you while I'm gone. I'll have someone watch the villa. No one will harm you."
A warmth spread through Brooklyn's chest, and a blissful smile formed on her face as she softly replied, "I'll be waiting for you at home."
Hearing her words, Sebastian felt a strange calm wash over him. The cloud hanging over his mood began to lift, and a hint of joy appeared on his face. "Okay. I'll see you soon."
"Next, Brooklyn," the nurse called.
Brooklyn whispered into the phone, "I'm at a check-up, in line for a blood draw. I'll talk to you later."
Sebastian smiled. At that moment, Brooklyn truly seemed to embody the role of a wife. The small interaction made him feel an unfamiliar but pleasant sense of marital connection.
"Drawing blood might sting a bit, but don't be afraid," he reassured her, wishing he could be there for all the little moments.
Brooklyn hung up, feeling comforted by his words. The blood draw didn't hurt at all, and before she knew it, it was done.
Dario waited for Sebastian to finish the call. "Boss, the situation in Pugetland is pretty complex. It might take some time to sort out."
Sebastian tugged at his tie in frustration. "Expanding abroad comes with risks. What exactly happened? Explain it clearly."
"Understood."
During the drive to the airport, Dario detailed the project. The more he explained, the more Sebastian realized how severe the situation was.
As boarding time neared, Sebastian called Jennifer.
Before Jennifer could say a word, Sebastian cut her off with a cold, stern tone. "Jennifer, I'm leaving Aucester for a few days due to company matters. You'd better keep your hands off her while I'm gone. If you don't, I'll handle things personally when I return."
Jennifer, furious, smashed a coffee cup. "Sebastian! How dare you speak to me like this!"
"This is my stance. You know my temper. If anything happens to her, I won't stand by."
"Sebastian!"
He ended the call as Jennifer picked up another cup and threw it to the ground. "How dare you threaten me!"
