Chapter 149: Stuff Yourself, Then Leave
Zach's clear and elegant male voice cut through the greasy atmosphere like a refreshing breeze drifting in from the cafeteria entrance. There were no shouts or screams, yet his presence exuded power.
In an instant, Zach's tall figure stood next to Brooklyn, his gaze falling on the oil stains on her, then shifting disapprovingly to Samantha. "Dr. Scott, come to my office in an hour."
Samantha displayed a mix of emotions. Being summoned individually was a great honor. However, Zach's expression told her that it wasn't for a good reason. "Dr. Carter, may I ask what this is about?"
Zach turned cold. Despite his usual gentle demeanor, he had become accustomed to the icy tone lately, especially after witnessing Brooklyn being bullied repeatedly. "A patient almost died under your care. What do you think this is about?"
Samantha paled instantly. Seeking help from Piper, she found Piper acting like a total stranger. Then, Pieper casually remarked, "Things need to be explained. You are in charge and should take responsibility. Dr. Scott, if you're done eating, why don't you leave?"
Piper dismissed Samantha and then approached the two. "Dr. Carter, there have been murmurs about your relationship with Dr. Mitchell in the hospital. Coming forward now, aren't you just asking for trouble?"
Piper hoped to catch Zach's attention with her words, but Zach's gaze was fixed on someone else. "Dr. Rivera, what is our relationship?"
Piper suddenly lowered her voice. "Dr. Mitchell has... In any case, you should keep your distance from her. Don't get yourself into trouble."
Zach was visibly annoyed. Raising his voice, he ignored her supposedly well-intentioned warning. "Dr. Rivera, have you finished your meal as well?"
Finding the whole scene uninteresting and repetitive, Brooklyn stepped away from the two. "I'm not interested in hearing what you have to say. Excuse me."
With determined steps in her high heels, Brooklyn felt that the recent events were disgusting. Enough with the repeated tricks and conspiracy, she wanted to be straightforward! 'What's the point of these tricks?' Brooklyn thought.
Leaving Piper behind, Zach turned and followed her out. As he left, he gave Piper a cold look.
"Dr. Mitchell," Zack called out.
Upon hearing this, Brooklyn turned around. "Dr. Carter, thank you for earlier. However, as Dr. Rivera said, we shouldn't have any further contact. Here's the key."
Brooklyn was tired of the repetitive torment that was slowly wearing down her patience and self-esteem. She just wanted to focus on saving lives and clocking out.
Taking the key, Zach smiled gently. "I came to tell you that Mr. Perez in the VIP section has woken up. To show his gratitude, he has invited all the doctors from the Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery departments for a night out on his behalf."
Uninterested, Brooklyn replied, "Dr. Carter can take them. I won't be going."
"That won't do. I'm a messager. Mr. Perez is the host. If you don't want to go, you'll have to tell him yourself," Zach said.
Frowning, Brooklyn found it troublesome to decline the invitation and disturb a high-profile patient in the ICU. "What time? Where?"
"At a Karaoke Bar by the river. We'll leave together in the evening. Just follow everyone to the entrance after work," Zach replied.
Looking at her dirty clothes, Brooklyn thought, 'With this?'
Zach said, "There's still time. Go shopping. Consider it a way to relax."
'Are my thoughts that obvious?' Brooklyn pondered.
Meanwhile, Dario was reporting at the MBK Group office building.
"It wasn't easy, but we finally managed to secure the most difficult real estate tycoon in Aqua Vista City. Mr. Kingsley, everyone has been working overtime for half a month on this project. Now that the contract is signed, should we give them some rewards?" Dario stood by Sebastian's desk, having been asked by the entire project team to seek recognition and reward. His attitude was extremely sincere.
Sebastian opened the file and looked through the documents. "Give each person a bonus, with the amount based on individual contributions. I'll sign off on it."
Dario furrowed his brow. Sebastian seemed to prefer using money to reward people, lacking sincerity.
"Mr. Kingsley, providing bonuses may not be conducive to team building. How about taking them out for some relaxation and fun? It's been a while since we had a group activity," Dario suggested.
Sebastian responded, "Have the finance department allocate a budget for activities. I'll sign off on it."
Dario added, "Mr. Kingsley, it would be better for you to lead the team-building activity personally. Your direct involvement can boost morale, especially considering the difficulty of this project, as you're well aware."
Sebastian lazily raised his head to look at Dario, who was unusually talkative today.
Nevertheless, he eventually agreed.
In the evening, at Aucester's most luxurious Karaoke Bar.
"Wow! Mr. Perez is indeed generous. It's said that booking a top-tier private room here for one night costs upwards of six figures!" one exclaimed.
"Someone's footing the bill. We just need to enjoy ourselves!" another one added.
It was truly the top entertainment venue. Coincidentally, it was also part of Sebastian's private holdings and under the MBK Group's umbrella.
