Chapter 140 Brooklyn Was Targeted
The next day, Brooklyn rose early. Megan stopped doing yoga in the morning after Brooklyn stopped staying up late to write papers, which only added to Brooklyn's irritation.
Brooklyn glanced up at the spiral staircase. Megan lay on the bed Brooklyn shared with Sebastian, occupying her spot, yet she had somehow managed to remain calm.
"Ms. Mitchell," Savannah called as she approached from the kitchen, her expression somewhat uneasy upon seeing Brooklyn.
"What's the matter?" Brooklyn inquired.
Savannah hesitated for a long moment before saying, "Ms. Mitchell, actually, the night before yesterday, Mr. Kingsley called looking for you. I was going to fetch you, but Ms. Turner took the phone from me. She told Mr. Kingsley you were already asleep and warned me that if I told you, she would fire me."
"Stop crying. This matter ends here. I'll pretend I don't know," Brooklyn said.
"Really? Thank you, Ms. Mitchell. You've been so kind to me. If I didn't tell you, my conscience wouldn't be clear. Ms. Mitchell, I won't do it again. Please don't fire me," Savannah pleaded.
Brooklyn picked up her bag and gave Savannah a faint smile. "I won't fire you, but you should be prepared to leave here. Now, go on with your work."
Not being fired but being told to prepare to leave. Savannah wondered what Brooklyn meant by that.
Brooklyn wondered why Sebastian had called her. Why was there no follow-up?
After changing into her white coat in the locker room, Brooklyn headed to the ward with her high heels clicking crisply on the tiled floor.
In Piper's office, Piper called Megan.
"Megan, with our combined efforts, Brooklyn will not only be ousted from the Kingsley family but also be utterly disgraced. Just wait and see," Piper said.
"You're such a good cousin. Thanks to you, I got the professor's recommendation. Brooklyn, that wretch, wants to be a professor? She can go to hell!" Piper continued.
"Alright but be careful. With Sebastian away for a few days, isn't now a good time to deal with her? I think Sebastian has feelings for her. You need to secure Sebastian and make him dump her quickly!" Piper advised.
"I will!" Megan assured her.
After hanging up, Piper tapped Brooklyn's personal file with her finger as a cold smile played on her lips.
It turned out that during her university days, Brooklyn had been proactive in surgery, performing numerous operations as a student and showing great promise as a surgeon. Later on, she switched to internal medicine. The reasons were unknown and unimportant to Piper, but this was a weapon for her. Brooklyn's days were numbered.
As Brooklyn returned to her office after rounds, she heard the emergency alarm from the ER. Without pausing to put down the case files, she immediately headed to the first floor and sprinted out of the elevator toward the emergency hall.
The wind lifted the hem of her white coat, revealing glimpses of her slender calves beneath her skirt.
There had been another chain reaction car accident.
"Dr. Mitchell, this patient," a nurse said.
Brooklyn strode over. "Open femur fracture with pelvic fracture. Get a CT scan, do a blood test, administer saline, confirm subdural hemorrhage with the CT, and prepare for bone setting.
"Patient has cardiac congestion. Prepare for a blood draw now!"
"Brooklyn, what are you doing? This patient was crushed in the rollover and clearly has a ruptured heart. He needs to be handed over to a surgeon for an operation!"
Samantha?
Brooklyn glanced at Samantha and continued to say to the nurse, "Give me the aspirator. Prepare for suction!"
Samantha snatched the instrument from Brooklyn's hand. "Brooklyn, are you out of your mind? I said he needs to be sent to surgery for an operation now!"
"Dr. Scott, the patient indeed had his heart compressed, but the heart is not damaged. The compression is on the inner wall of his thorax, causing the internal bleeding that is overwhelming the heart. We need to draw out the contaminated blood immediately. Give me the instrument!"
Samantha sneered. "Dr. Mitchell, am I the professor, or are you? I demand you put the patient down now and hand him over to the surgeons! This patient requires surgery!"
Even at a critical moment like this, Samantha was playing that card!
Brooklyn said, "Dr. Scott, I am responsible for this patient!"
Samantha gritted her teeth. "Brooklyn, you simply don't respect me! Just because I succeeded in the selection while you failed!"
Brooklyn could not be bothered to argue. "Prepare for suction!"
The emergency medical staff were already familiar with Brooklyn and definitively trusted her skills. She was never wrong.
Brooklyn drew out the accumulated blood from the patient's body, and the patient's heartbeat finally stabilized.
Taking a deep breath, Brooklyn handed the instrument to a nurse. "The patient still has slight nerve compression. Send him for a CT scan."
Samantha gritted her teeth. "Dr. Mitchell, what is this supposed to mean? Is a professor not as good as an associate professor?"
Brooklyn ignored her and said to the nurse, "Next patient."
The nurse did not pay any attention to Samantha either. Despite Samantha's constant claims of being a professor, her on-the-spot skills were far from impressive.
Moreover, her character was deplorable.
Dr. Carter called for an emergency meeting, and Brooklyn and the others headed to the conference room.
Piper spoke first. "The patients brought in today include two special cases. They have similar conditions, but one is a high-ranking military officer, and the other..."
Zach, looking at the expressionless Brooklyn, said to Piper, "Dr. Whitman, the issue now is not the patients' identities but whether our medical team can handle two surgeries simultaneously."
Such highly complex surgeries...
Brooklyn remained silent as she quickly assessed the situation in her mind. The staff was indeed stretched thin.
Piper smiled. "Actually, internal medicine doctors have surgical experience and can assist in some auxiliary surgeries. For example, our newly appointed professor, Dr. Scott."
Brooklyn was alarmed. Samantha's skills were not fit for the operating table.
Then, Piper looked at Brooklyn and casually said, "There's also another doctor everyone is familiar with. She has always been an outstanding internal medicine doctor and can certainly provide great assistance to the surgeons, right, Dr. Brooklyn?"
What?
Brooklyn looked at Piper in astonishment. "Me?"
