Chapter 238 A Bunch of Fools

After hanging up, Brooklyn couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. 'If Susie was really fine, why did they sound so convincing? News doesn't spread without cause; Susie must have stirred up trouble with her reckless behavior.'

Brooklyn tried redialing, but the phone went straight to voicemail. No one was answering.

Brooklyn thought, 'Could something really have happened? If Susie's missteps falls into the wrong hands, it could spell disaster.'

Brooklyn returned to the table, eating with a heavy heart.

In the afternoon at the hospital, her three patients were unstable. She stayed in the ward for over three hours, monitoring them.

Finally, their conditions stabilized. Brooklyn, with a sore neck, stepped out and checked her phone, finding a flood of news notifications.

[Mitchell family heir's scandal: pregnant after a party, found having an abortion at a hospital.]

[Susie, the hopeless case, can't save the Mitchell family.]

[Another Mitchell family scandal: Ms. Mitchell's private life, multiple abortions.]

Brooklyn felt dizzy, almost collapsing in the corridor.

She steadied herself with a defibrillator stand, gritting her teeth as she opened one of the articles.

The report was a brutal exposé on Susie's chaotic personal life, detailing her numerous affairs and frequenting nightclubs. It painted her as someone who flaunted her wealth and privilege, using her position as the Mitchell family heir to stir up controversy in the high society circles.

[Susie flaunted luxury goods on Facebook, showcasing her extravagant lifestyle. Her social circle was chaotic, changing men like clothes.]

[After Brooklyn's identity was exposed, Susie's flaunting, arrogance, and bullying became even worse, even having someone beat up a masseuse who refused to lick her shoes.]

Brooklyn's head pounded as she read on. The details of Susie's life were more shocking than she had imagined, revealing a level of recklessness and decadence she hadn't realized.

She thought, 'Susie! I knew you were reckless after Dad died, but I never knew your private life was like this!'

[The Mitchell family's partners had restored their trust because of Brooklyn, but after Susie's scandal, investors and partners are demanding to withdraw. The Mitchell family office is in chaos.]

[Seraphina hasn't responded, claiming it's media slander. But everyone knows the truth.]

[With two hours left until the stock market closes, many are taking a wait-and-see approach regarding the Mitchell family's fate.]

A sharp, stabbing pain gripped Brooklyn's stomach, causing her to double over on the floor, fists pressed against her abdomen, fighting to stay upright. The pain was overwhelming, every breath a struggle.

She thought, 'Susie! Are you trying to bankrupt the Mitchell family?'

"Dr. Mitchell, are you okay?" a passing nurse asked, seeing Brooklyn's sweaty face. Brooklyn gritted her teeth and forced herself to stand. "Help me up, please."

The nurse helped her up, and Brooklyn clung to the IV stand, her face and lips pale.

Taking a deep breath, Brooklyn walked back to her office.

"Dr. Mitchell, what's wrong? Are you sick?" Sienna asked, alarmed by her appearance.

Brooklyn's stomach hurt badly. She rummaged through a drawer for stomach medicine, swallowed some pills with cold water, and tried to calm down.

Years of experience told her that her anxiety and anger had triggered the spasms, causing her whole body to tremble in pain.

"I have to go out for a while," she said.

Ellie walked over, worried, and touched her forehead. "Dr. Mitchell, you need to get checked immediately."

Checking the medicine bottle, Ellie insisted, "Painkillers alone won't help!"

Brooklyn brushed her hand away. "I'm fine, just need to sit for a while. You go ahead."

With patients calling, Sienna was summoned to the ward, and Ellie had to go to the hall, leaving Brooklyn to rest.

Once the pain subsided a bit, Brooklyn grabbed her car keys and headed to the underground garage.

She sped all the way to the Mitchell Group, flooring the gas pedal.

When she arrived, she saw dozens of reporters blocking the entrance.

'Getting out now would mean getting swarmed by reporters,' she thought. So, she went to the underground garage and took the elevator from B2 straight to the top-floor office.

"Brooklyn? What are you doing here?" Seraphina was shocked to see her.

"What do you think I'm doing here?" Brooklyn's pale lips curled into a sarcastic smile. Gripping the door handle for support, she continued, "Seraphina, do you and Susie want to take down the Mitchell Group? If it falls, you'll both have nothing!"

'Idiots!'

Seraphina picked up the phone to call for help, but Brooklyn lunged forward and smashed it on the ground.
