Chapter 71 Do You Want to Commit Suicide?
Brooklyn was lost in thought when a cold female voice slowly came from the opposite side. Brooklyn looked up to see a slender and tall woman in a white coat standing diagonally in front of the table. Piper Rivera had a neat short haircut with permed ends, and her slightly curled hair on the cheeks made her already delicate face even more attractive.
Piper had light makeup on, with clearly defined eyelashes and rose-colored lipstick on her lips, giving her a competent yet charming look.
She wore a light purple shirt inside the white coat, with two buttons undone, revealing her slender collarbones. Black pants wrapped around the hem of the shirt, and she wore a pair of black high heels.
"Sorry, I didn't know this was your book." Brooklyn pushed the book to the opposite side of the table and moved her coffee closer to herself.
There was no name tag on Piper's white coat, so Brooklyn didn't recognize her. In Brooklyn's impression, she had never seen this person before. If such a glamorous and attractive doctor really appeared at Aucester Hospital, she should know her.
Piper picked up a medical book, "You are the ace cardiologist, Brooklyn?"
Piper had just caught a glimpse of her name tag on her chest, but she was somewhat uncertain. Brooklyn was unexpectedly young and beautiful.
"It's me, but I dare not call myself an ace doctor." Brooklyn had a gut feeling that Piper was not easy to get along with.
Piper impatiently said, "Yes or no, no need to be modest. If I remember correctly, it's your clinic in the afternoon. Shouldn't you be preparing?"
Brooklyn frowned. What did her commanding tone mean? Besides, it was still early.
"Excuse me, may I ask who you are?"
Brooklyn thought, 'Piper was not polite, and Brooklyn wouldn't be either. Acting so bossy, did she consider herself a leader?'
Piper sneered, pursed her red lips, and flipped through the book disdainfully as if looking down on Brooklyn for not recognizing her. She remained silent.
Huh! There are indeed many arrogant people nowadays! It seems that this trait is not exclusive to Megan.
"Ms. Rivera, there you are, making it easy for me to find you!"
Before Brooklyn could even stand up, the head of the cardiology department, Thomas Flores, strode over. He was addressing this woman who seemed to look down on everyone.
Brooklyn felt a jolt in her heart. Wasn't the new deputy head supposed to be a man? How come it was a woman?
Piper stood up and nodded, "Mr. Flores."
Mr. Flores quickly smiled, "Brooklyn is here too. That's great. Have you two met? This is our pillar in the cardiology department, Brooklyn Mitchell. And Dr. Mitchell, this is our new deputy head, a medical doctor from Harvard University, Ms. Rivera. Both are young talents!"
No matter how capable Brooklyn was, she was not in a higher position than Piper, so she naturally couldn't speak first. She nodded to greet them.
Piper closed the book and said in a somewhat unfriendly tone, "We've met. Whether you are an ace doctor or not, I will judge for myself."
Mr. Flores laughed and tried to smooth things over. He was almost fifty years old and wore glasses with gold frames. His eyes were not big, and when he smiled, they narrowed into a line, looking quite comical.
In the afternoon, Brooklyn continued her shift as usual, and before she knew it, the whole afternoon had passed without finishing seeing all the patients.
She dragged her tired body back home, too preoccupied with preparing her paper to bother cooking a proper dinner. She bought instant noodles from the convenience store and leaned against the door frame to read a book while cooking the noodles.
The title of professor was not trivial. There were only one or two positions available in each department each year, and most of them required experienced senior doctors. It was truly a pleasant surprise for her to receive the application form.
Thinking about it, it seemed like Harper was deliberately taking care of her before leaving.
The water in the pot bubbled and boiled, but Brooklyn was too focused on a professional term to notice the water overflowing.
"Do you want to commit suicide?!"
Sebastian's cold and stern reprimand mixed with the sound of the book hitting the ground. Brooklyn's first reaction was, how did he come back so soon?!
Her second reaction was - the instant noodles!
Sebastian deftly crossed over Brooklyn to turn off the gas, his bloodthirsty eyes fixed on her.
The spilled water from the pot spread across the stove and dripped onto the floor.
"I wasn't paying attention just now. You go out, I'll clean up." Brooklyn picked up the medical book and put it on the shelf, rolled up her sleeves, and grabbed a cloth to wipe.
Sebastian was very angry. He stood behind her, really wanting to ask her, what if something happened?!
But watching Brooklyn silently wiping the stove, he swallowed the words stuck in his throat. It was truly unbelievable that he managed to hold back his anger.
"Alright! Get out!" Sebastian commanded impatiently.
Brooklyn didn't stop her movements, "I'll take responsibility for cleaning your kitchenware."
"Yes, the kitchenware can be cleaned, but Brooklyn..." Sebastian's cold voice was tinged with a hint of anger, a clear sign of restraint, although Brooklyn didn't know what he was holding back.
She listened intently, but he didn't continue.
Sebastian shouted in his mind, 'But Brooklyn, if my eyes and heart get hurt, how will you clean them up?!'
