Chapter 164: This is What I Want

"Where is my cell?" Brooklyn reached out for her phone. She wanted to check if Sebastian had called or texted her during the night she was away.

Kelly acknowledged and handed her the phone.

Taking a deep breath, Brooklyn turned it on. There wereno missed calls or messages.

Her heart sank heavily. 'Has my marriage with Sebastian truly reached the end? But why am I so reluctant?' Brooklyn pondered.

Even though she knew that returning to him would mean facing indifference and pain, she still hesitated.

"By the way, Brooklyn, how did you get poisoned? We all drank the same last night, and we're fine. How did this happen to you?" Kelly's question hit the mark.

Brooklyn tried hard to recall every detail from the previous night. 'Where have things gone south? How has the poison entered her body? Who is behind this?' Brooklyn was lost in thought.

"I don't know," Brooklyn replied.

"You're not going to let it go, are you? Even if you do, I won't. I must make the person behind this pay. Rest well. I'll go back to the bar to check the surveillance footage and find the culprit to avenge you!" Kelly added.

"Don't be impulsive. You might get into trouble messing up with those at the bar. As a girl, you're asking to be bullied," Brooklyn suggested.

"What should I do then? Call the cops? Ugh, they are useless. And, another thing, should I tell Sebastian about this?" Kelly asked.

Brooklyn shook her head. "No. It's better if we have less to do with each other. You grab a bite, go home to change, and then bring two sets of clothes from my apartment. Thank you, dear," Brooklyn said.

"A thank you may not be enough! Are you offering yourself to me?" Kelly asked.

"Sure! Let's get married!" Brooklyn replied.

"Are you trying to commit bigamy?" Kelly questioned.

She misspoke!

Kelly quickly retreated.

It was a rude awakening.

Yes, even if Brooklyn wanted to start a new life and consider Zach or someone else, she needed to regain her freedom first and get a divorce.

It had been almost four years. Brooklyn had been walking on thin ice in this marriage every day, feeling suffocated. She wanted to take a breath.

Leaving Sebastian was the only way she could start anew.

At that moment, the phone clenched in Brooklyn's palm vibrated.

It was Sebastian calling!

'Why is he calling now?' Brooklyn pondered.

Brooklyn bit her lip, trying to calm her heartbeat and breathing to a normal state. She thought of what she wanted to say and then answered.

As soon as she put the phone to her ear, a low, somewhat cold voice came through, "What excuse this time made you think for so long?"

His tone was sarcastic. Brooklyn sensed clear disdain and anger. He must have thought she had gone out to play again, didn't he?

All of this was indeed the consequence of her actions from the previous night.

'Why do I feel remorse even in my current state?' Brooklyn despised herself for always feeling inferior in front of Sebastian!

Bracing herself, she said, "Mr. Kingsley, you spent the night with your mistress at home, and I had private activities outside. What's wrong with it? Yes, I am your wife in name, but that doesn't mean you can confine my freedom or use your status to oppress me."

He asked a question, and she retorted with many more. Compared to the gentlewoman from three years ago, she had indeed made progress!

She grew bolder and asked for freedom. Was Brooklyn not caring about Sebastian anymore?

Sebastian clearly wouldn't tolerate Brooklyn being defiant in front of him. His icy gaze fixed on the tall tree outside the study window, his slender fingers tapping on the mahogany desk. The air around him was filled with a low-pressure coldness that could be felt ten meters away.

"No matter where you are, come back immediately. Don't try to use your work to deceive me. If you mention work again, I'll fire you on the spot. Or I'll shut down the hospital," Sebastian warned.

Instead of negotiating or arguing, this was a blatant threat. If Brooklyn didn't comply, Sebastian would bring her down in his way.

"Sebastian, you can't do this! You're joking with thousands of lives!" Brooklyn's dry throat seemed to ooze a bloody taste as she spoke.

Sebastian leaned his forehead on his long fingers, with his sharply defined face showing signs of fatigue. Mr. Kingsley had visited the living room countless times last night, and he had hardly slept all night.

As she had said, he could check her duty roster. Damn it, he had actually done the dumbest thing of his life last night, checking her duty roster.

But she had clocked out as usual and wasn't at the hospital at all!

How could Mr. Kingsley not be furious?

"Since you cares so much for her patients, you'd better appear at the villa now, or else..." Sebastian added.

"Sebastian, what do you want?" Brooklyn didn't want to hear his words again. Every time Sebastian spoke, he could make her emotions collapse.

A vein bulged on Sebastian's forehead, and a gust of wind passed through the open window, brushing over the man's beautifully sculpted profile. Despite it being early summer, an icy chill lingered in the air.

"I'll tell you in person what I want," Sebastian added.

He made it crystal clear: she had to return to the villa, no excuse.

Brooklyn closed her eyes, preparing to respond. However, she heard a clear, sweet, and slightly flirtatious voice.

This voice was charming, tender, and full of ambiguity. It was Megan's voice.

"Sebastian, how do I look in this outfit for today's event?" Megan asked.

Dear CEO, Please Be Gentle!
